Well 3 of the apprentices started in that Scotland schoolboys game at Cappielow, so start from there surely? Not sure what positions Niall Graham or Fraser Rodger play, but at least lets see them on the bench to get them accustomed to the first team environment. Been a bit of a bugbear of mine that. Even if you're not intending on playing them, get them used to what match-day prep looks like and have them on the bench, in particular when we've had 3 or 4 players on the bench at times this season.

They’re also romping the league and into the CAS cup final, well ahead of teams who seem to be bedding in more young talent than we are. If that doesn’t merit a first team chance then nothing does, and in that case maybe it’s time to think about doing away with the academy.

Think some are getting a bit carried away here, the gulf between U18s and the Championship is massive.

While reaching the play-offs is almost certainly beyond us now, it's still imperative we still finish as high up in the table as possible for the prize money. Keep playing the strongest team possible for the rest of the season.

I largely agree, and I think another aspect of it would be keeping players involved that we might want to re-sign for next season (on the flip side, if we know anyone that's away then it's maybe time to drop them). On top of that, a flat end to the season leaves a bad taste which can influence enthusiasm going into the season ticket purchase window (not a massive factor, but it's all important to varying degrees).

On the other hand, I think game time for Corr right now is important, and I think it's worth seeing more of what Keay is capable of.

If Keay is actually off at the end of the season I don't think giving him game time makes sense unless there is a genuine benefit to the club (like better results and maybe 5th place rather than 6th.  However on a related matter, it was suggested that his agent was trying to get him flogged.  If Morton are really just going to let what looks like a really good player walk away without even offering him a professional deal, there's something very wrong at the club.  Surely championship level football would bring him on and improve him greatly as a footballer?  Is the agent just trying to earn commission?  And does our club chairman not act as a player agent?  If so, is he involved in any way with this particular player?  If so, it would be a clear conflict of interest and in my opinion a resigning matter.

Where has the rumours of Keay leaving came from?

There's a storm on the horizon

And for that I can't see the sun

For I'll keep a waiting on the pavement

For the ice cream van to come

The same place(s) where all our other rumours come from - the febrile imaginations of the resident sweetie wives/'in the know' merchants even loosely affiliated to the club.

I'm sure that the 'club doesn't actually want promotion because they can't afford it' classic was being brought out in the aftermath of Saturday's result too.

The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before..

So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are

How many bench appearances were necessary for Keay first, in order to be capable of just bodying some Hamilton jobber on the park anyway?

The management team have responded directly to this claim in the past and clearly see little merit in this 'experience of match days' argument. It's hardly spending a month sequestered at an international tournament camp.

Nobody has suggested that.

Yeah there's a bit of a difference between games for fringe players and games for more 17 year olds who haven't reached Keay's level yet. The three I'd be considering starting won't necessarily even weaken the team; Keay has already played really well in previous sub appearances and would be replacing Adeloye who evidently isn't fit. Corr was always signed as a first team player and Boyes has had several shaky performances lately so you could question whether Corr deserves a shot, albeit the passing style makes having two right footed centre backs less than ideal. You could argue those are logical choices to make for putting the strongest possible team on the park anyway.

The other shout is Garrity, who I'm just after saying on Tuesday is probably done in the starting XI for the season anyway after too often failing to deliver the same level of performance he manages from the bench, but fuck it, if it's a toss up between him and Shaw...

If indeed there is interest in our young striker we need to maximise the money we could get for him  There needs to be a 25% sell on clause for the club that is going to get the young man for basically a song I would imagine.

Big fan of those. I just got a shrewd 200k in my FM save for some regen I fobbed off on Oxford United, they pawned him off on Bristol City. That'll pay most of Cody Gakpo's wages, for this week.

There was a post about it on here somewhere about a week ago.  Not sure which thread - is there a search facility on here?  If it's nonsense, I'll be delighted as we might get to keep Keay at the club while he matures and improves.  I know if he succeeeds he would want to get a move and that's inevitable, but it would be a bit galling to lose a good player so early in his career.  I could understand it if he was off to Barca, but signing for Partick or St Mirren or whoever would be a real kick in the teeth.  However money talks and if he has an agent, that agent will be looking to earn commission.

I hope there's nothing in the story.

He’s had some agent tweeting about him every time he’s came off the bench so reading between the lines it’s likely that said agent has either started this rumour in order to kick Morton into action regarding a full time contract or he genuinely has had concrete interest from elsewhere, obviously through this agent.

I’d imagine whatever development fees we’d be due would take any sideways moves off the table anyway.

His agent just will be trying to get him the best deal which is what he is there to do.

I don't understand why he wouldn't be offered a professional contract he has been banging in goals at u18s which is all he can do to get noticed he is now in and around making a few first team appearances he wouldn't be there if Imrie didn't rate him and on top of that he has done well and scored goals.

I expect he will get game time before the end of the season and if he keeps doing well then he should be offered a deal, like was said before if boys like this don't get offered anything then what is the point in having a youth academy in the first place if all the best talent is just going to get poached because we don't give them a pathway to succeed.

Never go that far up the page tbh, just hit the wee star icons to get to the first unread post.  This forum is a nightmare to read, swamped with ads popping up for about ten minutes after you load it and at regular intervals as each post loads.

Hearing rumours that Iain Wilson is no longer injured, he’s apparently told the gaffer that he’s signed a new deal elsewhere and doesn’t want to risk another injury this season. It’ll be sad to see him go, especially after everything he’s contributed to the team.
