2024/25 Squad and Transfers

I’m really wary of us having another significant rebuild, starting the season poorly and hitting form around December. I’d keep the majority if possible, the squad are now showing what they’re capable of and continuity/familiarity is a positive.

Would be pleased to hear about extensions for Mullen, Baird, Boyes, Wilson and Lyall. I’d hold off on the others for now though. Shaw needs a consistent run of fitness to prove himself and Reynolds has some work to do to show he can cut it at this level. Gillespie and Crawford might be too old for another year, so I’d leave those decisions until later, but I’ll trust Imrie’s decision if he thinks he can get another season out of them as reliable backups.

Mullen yes, but the others... I'm wary of extensions in February at our level of football. You never know what's going to happen between now and May. Someone could do their ACL in training tomorrow, another club could release someone unexpectedly (the Oakley situation at ICT, for example). There are tons of moving parts.

With that said, I'd sign Wilson up and let the others have until April or May before deciding.

I'd be surprised if we can keep Mullen - I think he's the best keeper in the league although maybe doesn't get the recognition for it - and we need to do everything we can to keep him. Wilson is in a similar category although does pick up a few injuries and some (not me) think a lack of pace holds him back so would be looking for a 2 year deal for him.

Lyall and Boyes have really came on to a game recently too so I wouldn't agree about leaving it late. Both young players who took a while to settle in but playing well so imagine other teams will be looking at them as well but think they'd be happy to sign if we got in before anyone else approaches them.

Baird I'm not sure about - he's a good player for us but not sure many teams will be after him so could maybe hold off since Corr is due back too.

Mullen, Ballantyne, Boyes, Delaney, Shug, Blues, Lyall, Garrity, Davies all keepers for me.

Corr if he proves his fitness would be I that category too.

The rest I wouldn't be too bothered about if I'm honest.

It isnt leaving it late to not offer a new contract right now. In fact I strongly suspect they wouldn't sign any such deal until they have a realistic understanding of their options (if they do sign a PCA, it'll be because it blows our terms out of the water anyway).

There should be deals on offer once our league status/budget is pretty much secure - by the end of April would be fine.

The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before..

So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are

Good player. But don't really think a forward was a priority  We are crying out for defenders.

Agree we need another defender in but I think bringing in another centre forward was required to challenge Stuparevic

Bloody hell, did not see that coming and what a signing, even accounting for inevitably needing a while to get his sharpness up.

Do think a defender was the biggest priority in this squad, but hardly going to turn my nose up at a signing of this calibre.

And confirmed. Excellent news.

Great news given out by Dougie in the pre-Airdrie interview. He says that "99.9% of players are fit and available" - so very encouraging to realise that we've lost only one of our 1,000-strong squad.

Joking aside-  Adeloye 😮 Cracking signing. The big Serb has had his moments - but he's also been invisible a lot of the time and for me - he seems to turn up when he wants to. There's also a distinct possibility that he'll be away again when his loan expires.

I'm always skeptical when a guy's been months out of the game. His record at this level is undeniable, though, and if this is one Imrie himself has been eager to get, I'm very glad we've done it.

Teams will be starting to do their business now and get agreements in place and players heads turned. Getting longer term deals is the best protection we can get albeit a small gamble but another win or two and we're safe.

Apparently Corr is due back. Davies isn't scoring and has been average at best while still getting game time - we need to improve up top and we have. The defence is fine if we avoid injuries, it's a push to say the same about forwards.
