Chesh Posted August 31, 2024 Posted August 31, 2024 That's just not good enough. You simply can't be throwing away a 2 goal lead at home. Im making perfect sense, your just not keeping up.My Twitter - https://twitter.com/RJChesh
Hands of Cowan Posted August 31, 2024 Posted August 31, 2024 Quite literally a game of 2 halves. Thought we edged it in the 1st half, albeit they did come back at us. But we just imploded in the 2nd half. One the 1st half performance I'd have said we deserved a point at least, but seeing how we played 2nd half, we can't complain about getting nothing from the game.
Chesh Posted August 31, 2024 Posted August 31, 2024 Even though JET was pretty anonymous today and guilty of missing yet another decent chance once he was switched with Reynolds we completely fell out the game. We need another mobile ST through the door as soon as possible. It's a shame that Dougie will be able to hide behind the penalty call that changes the momentum of the game completely because his Subs today where baffling. I don't think JET offers enough although when he does get the ball he creates things and teams worry. The problem is it needs to be the perfect pass to him and too easy to defend against until he's taken a touch.
Mr.Blue Posted August 31, 2024 Posted August 31, 2024 First half i thought we played well and deserved our lead. Regardless of the penalty we have to defend better. Their right hand side gave us a torrid time all afternoon and we just couldn't deal with it. I am certain we should have had a penalty for the foul on Garrity. Second half although we had some good chances especially for Moffat and JET Falkirk always looked the more dangerous side. The difference was their subs (mckenna and Agyeman) made a difference whereas ours did nothing. Referee was terrible and took until the 70th min to remember he could book their players as well. There's a storm on the horizon And for that I can't see the sun For I'll keep a waiting on the pavement For the ice cream van to come
TONofmemories Posted August 31, 2024 Posted August 31, 2024 The JET Is fucking hopeless btw. Barely tried one bit. Looks completely overweight and can't run. Disappointing TIME FOR CHANGE!
tondaft1874 Posted August 31, 2024 Posted August 31, 2024 Had a great view from the stand of both penalty incidents as well. Falkirk one is never a pen in a million years boy throws himself to the ground. The even more frustrating thing is the ref is literally 5 yards from it and judged it to be a pen. Ours is a stone wall pen Donaldson is on the wrong side of Garrity as soon as he takes the touch past him then brings him down in the box.
gmfc23 Posted August 31, 2024 Posted August 31, 2024 Delany had a fkn nightmare got caught fannying about for an early corner when the ball needed clearing caught again fannying about in the box and cost us a pen from behind the goal it was a pen soft but a pen then the third he didn't exactly cover himself in glory not a great afts work. We've only ourselves to blame. Should never be blowing a two goal lead in any game. They had the hunger to win first and second balls break on us with pace and always had an out ball. We deserved nothing from that and without a decent striker on loan it's going to be a very long season.
standman Posted August 31, 2024 Posted August 31, 2024 Giving away a soft penalty to let them back into the match was criminal. Moffat , a player with talent, got booked needlessly and i think it lead to him being subbed in case he got a second yellow, considering the bizarre decision making by the ref. He should have scored to put us 3-2 up. That’s a bad miss. Jet ballooning the ball instead of getting a shot on target was dreadful. The manager needs to get off Garrity’s back. No other player gets as much criticism, much of which is unjustified. He gets blamed for situations not of his making. I understand taking Moffat off due to his yellow, however too many subs disrupt the shape and the players coming on are rarely improvements. Reynolds is woeful, unfortunately. We haven’t got time to let players settle in while we get knocked out of the league cup and don’t win in four league matches. Did we do any proper scouting on him except for the youtube footage of his Ipswich goal? If he is coming on ahead of Davies then it doesn’t say much for Davies. Taking Ali Crawford off today was perplexing, especially when Blues is the replacement. And i’ve seen enough of King now. He won’t improve. His Morton career has been occasional good work but it’s outweighed by the bad. He needs to sharpen up and quickly when he comes on. Let's rock !
Chicken_Soup Posted August 31, 2024 Posted August 31, 2024 Without the referee we would have taken something from the game, despite our flaws. I’m not going to list everything he did wrong, and this one is hardly game defining - but on 3 separate occasions he stopped the game, while we were in possession, for a knock to a Falkirk player, and returned possession to them via a drop ball afterwards. On the third occasion you could see Gillespie explaining the situation to him and being waved away. What on earth is that about? Regarding our own failings, I’m hoping and trusting that Imrie is making progress in figuring out what does and doesn’t work with this new side. We were brilliant in spells, just not overall. I don’t know if Moffat had taken a knock after having the shit kicked out of him, but the subs today didn’t work at all. Biggest negative was our lack of game management. Biggest positive was our threat from set pieces.
Hightide Posted August 31, 2024 Posted August 31, 2024 Rather than the usual mundane pish, I wonder if there’s any chance of Garriff asking Dougie what his thinking was behind those substitutions today. JET needs dropped until he proves he can actually be arsed. Sauntering about the park with the hairs on his arsehole tied together has gone on too long with no end product. 3 stone overweight and a man down. Davies must be worse than we think if he can’t get on the park today when we’re chasing the game. Reynolds is League 2 standard.

Moffat's shot that was clearly going wide in the second half trundled across to Garrity to tap it in; for some reason, he didn't respond to just stick the ball in the net and worry about any offside later. I believe it was also Garrity who completely missed the ball with a practically open net within the first ten minutes (not 100% - perhaps it was someone else). Either way, it was the same story with the Hamilton game. On one hand, Garrity is the only player who is reliably getting into those positions from open play. But these are absolutely horrendous misses that you cannot afford to have at Championship level. Those simply need to go in and I don't blame a manager whose job is on the line for losing patience. I would certainly persist with Garrity given the other options right now, but reliable finishing needs to come from somewhere very soon. The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before.. So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are
AyrshireTon Posted August 31, 2024 Posted August 31, 2024 More than a bit annoyed after that. JET was a man down. Only after the subs came on did we have 11 players but as before, the subs weakened us, especially considering that Moffat and Wilson went off. The referee was chronic but not the reason we lost that. But for some desperate defending we'd have been behind at half time. McGhee needs some support, there's no-one backing him up. Hayes playing it forward, Bell being forced to do it all alone, now forward from Marr, here's Ritchie, still Andy Ritchie, look at the control... That is a marvellous goal from Andy Ritchie. Twenty minutes on the clock and Morton's supporters come alive. A goal which epitomises the control, the arrogance, the cheek of Andy Ritchie.
TONofmemories Posted August 31, 2024 Posted August 31, 2024 At the risk of repeating myself, that's possibly the laziest performance ive ever seen from a Morton player and that includes a fat Garry O'Conor, in the JET. Can't have ran more than a few k. I agree about Garrity getting the flack and i've heard from ex players (of that age) that Dougie is a knob to them. He should be fucking crucifying JET for that. Utterly abysmal stuff. TIME FOR CHANGE!
The Bewilderedbeast Posted August 31, 2024 Posted August 31, 2024 Just listened to Imries post match interview. I fear he could find himself in hot water for his comments about the referee, (justified or not). He'd have been better send Andy Millen out to speak as he was clearly still raging.
Scott Posted August 31, 2024 Posted August 31, 2024 Imrie’s post-match interview is total head in the sand, deflecting from glaring issues throughout our squad. That triple substitution around 60 mins killed us. He’ll also do very well to avoid a ban for those comments on the referee, justified or not.

While I can completely understand the frustration with Reynolds, Davies has been awful any time he's been on the park. He's struggled to get involved and the only game he did manage to find some space or time on the ball was against Brechin, and he looked like he'd never seen a football before. I'd love it if it turns out to be just him taking a bit of time to get settled, and with some confidence the goals will come, but so far he's done about as much as any random fan would manage in a match. Reynolds doesn't look like a capable player at this level but, never mind League Two, Davies couldn't hit a barn door against a Highland League side (a competition winner would've been embarrassed by that first half header). JET can't run and he's offered more than Davies and Reynolds combined so far. And that isn't me praising JET - it's wild that we're having to start a guy as unfit as that.

I think maybe a bit harsh on Davies I don't think he's had a good opportunity in the team as of yet and would clearly benefit playing off someone like JET (when jet can be arsed). Would like to see him in there then judge him on that. Best for both parties if Reynolds returned down south. Miles out his depth at this level, unsure if he would even get in most of the Sunday league teams in the area.
SpoonTon Posted August 31, 2024 Posted August 31, 2024 Imrie maybe shouldn't have said it, but he's certainly right about the second goal. Falkirk take the quick free kick from nowhere near where the foul was and it catches us out down our right hand side. The refs decision making throughout seemed really poor. Mistakes are always going to happen but the judgment before the second goal is something which just shouldn't happen.
Alibi Posted August 31, 2024 Posted August 31, 2024 Jet put a beautiful pass through for Moffat, but other than that he did nothing. Taking him off made sense but bringing on the spectacularly useless Reynolds made things even worse. Are we sure the player we have is actually the same player who scored against Ipswich? I must check that video as our Reynolds looks lightweight. Taking Moffat off destroyed our positive play & taking Wilson off seemed equally daft. We have no subs that make the team better. That game was there for the taking and the tactic should have been if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. We need players who can play 90 minutes every week. And how we need a George Oakley clone! "Any nation given the opportunity to regain its national sovereignty and which then rejects it is so far beneath contempt that it is hard to put words to it."
