Squad and transfers 2019/20

No but funnily enough, options for medical treatment is the same for footballers as it is for everyone else.

Having appropriate medical treatment for a sports injury is essential for fulfilling Robert Thomson's current occupation of 'professional footballer', as opposed to the overwhelming majority of other professions where such treatment is irrelevant to the task. Which is why a full-time football club is obliged to have insurance and also has an additional duty of care in terms of medical treatment towards its contracted playing staff that an ordinary business does not. So consider that personal anecdote of the time you had different rehab options filed in the 'completely irrelevant' bin where it belongs.

Thanks for playing anyway.

The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before..

So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are

I'm pretty sure they will have insurance. The example I gave is the same for professional players.

A similar example is that we wouldn't be sending players to America to see specialists when a club like Celtic might to reduce rehab time further.

Its pretty straightforward - there are various options available to help player recovery and clubs need to make a call based on cost and time. When a player's contract and season is coming to an end then time becomes less of an issue.

Because they are counting McAlister as one not a wing back like he is in your lineup (which makes 6 in a small squad) and nobody is expecting us to field 4 central midfielders as in your lineup.

Most expect 2 or 3 central midfielders in our lineup, therefore that would mean 3 or 4 sitting out, which they think is too much in a small squad (again, all numbers counting McAlister as a central Midfielder).

Hoppy has just said he signed Jacobs for his versatility and for extra competition in midfield. The same could apply to McAlister.

The players have also been given an extension for responding to their offers, to the end of this week I think.

You asked why people are saying what they are saying. I merely answered why people are saying what they are saying.

Except that in this case the club's call had far less to do with the actual costs and benefits of the procedure, and much more to do with finding a way to lever Thomson out the door a few weeks earlier than scheduled. A back and forth process of haggling that, from Thomson's published account, was quite clearly ongoing for months since the turn of the year.

For GMFC to use a player's injury treatment as a bargaining chip to remove him from the wage bill is tinpot behaviour and not standard operating procedure for a professional football club.

We played Denny while injured which effectively ended his season, played McKeown with a compound leg fracture and now it seems we won't cover injured players medical costs.

This is no way for a professional club to operate. This is another area of the club needing a complete overhaul, hopefully Hopkin & Co. will get it done.

Apparently Johnstone had treatment down at the English FA training facility and it was them that gave the advice he was fit to play again.

While not something I am overly comfortable with, I do not believe most clubs nowadays carry the insurance cover to fund the medical costs of injured players.

Excellent news. Hopefully Hoppy will actually play him in the defensive midfield role he made his own in the Premier League rather than expecting him to be a box to box midfielder who's shunted out on the wing to cover when needed.

Good people will do good things, bad people will do bad things, but only with religion do good people do bad things!

Pleased with that. Was our most consistent performer last season when he was used al over the shop. Hopefully he’s even better in a more settled position.

From Hoppy's words I think he will be. He talked about Jacobs' versatility and listed all his positions, yet did not mention the word versatility when discussing Midge. He talked about a leader and a first class professional who likes to keep the ball and get forward. Seems like he'll know how to get the best out of Midge.

McHugh stays. Meh. I'm assuming he's agreed to reduced terms and will hopefully be returning to his 'super sub' role. I'd like to hope he'll be more successful in a two-man strike force but still, meh.

You address me by my proper title, you little bollocks!
