Jamie_M
We are in a position to be picky when we haven't even tested the open market for years. It's tin pot, there's a reason most clubs don't do it, we could end up with something really shit on the top, and is usually only resorted to when there is a struggle to find a sponsor. We have no idea if/how many viable sponsors are out there because we haven't been in that market for a long time. Some of the added value being suggested thrown in is potential lost revenue (hospitality) negating the potential added value of the scheme, also potential loss of shirt sales if a really bad one wins (part of the backlash about the Ajax style top was not just the deviation from hoops but also the addition of the crap one pounders logo). On the shorts, or for a prime advertising spot at Cappielow, raffle away, but not on the top. Not yet anyway until other avenues have been explored. Alibi
When I saw the shirt sponsorship idea being mentioned you were the first person I thought about (Alibi) as, if I recall correctly, you sponsored QotS shirts in the mid 2000s via this method. For what it's worth, I think it's good idea which has proven to work at clubs of a similar standing to ours; however I doubt very much there will be around 200 companies in Inverclyde who would part with £500 to take part in this (especially if the Bus Wankers are creeping about, if they won it would look helluva suspicious) My company did win the draw in about 2004. I wanted to have "Morton for the Cup" on the shirts but wasn't allowed under SFA rules. It works well as the cost to enter is fairly small, and so lots of folk can enter. At that time the shirt sponsorship came with 2 "executive club" tickets which allowed entry to the hospitality suite plus food before the game, at half time and at full time, but now I think it's only the name on the shirt that you get. "Any nation given the opportunity to regain its national sovereignty and which then rejects it is so far beneath contempt that it is hard to put words to it." LargsTON
Nice for the first time to see a different way of looking at the lack of funds though. Up to this point it has always been about reducing costs, whereas he, correctly, says that actually increasing revenue would have the same impact. Not exactly business brain science, but nice to have someone at Cappielow stating the obvious and being positive. That was the bit that struck a chord with me too. Glass half full for a change instead of doom and gloom. Hope he does a turn for us. Certainly seems to have a wealth of experience unlike his predecessor. Madton
Big job on his hands to encourage fans to buy season tickets. Last year it was 1100 odd with everyone collectively buzzing with Ray and the signings we were making as well as the cheap price! 12 months on, there's a lot of scepticism and I doubt many are ready to part with their cash following a difficult season! Getting Hopkin confirmed next week would be a good start and a few impressive early signings, (Tidser) will go a long way! He seems capable, I hope he can deliver! capitanus
On the subject of sponsorship, an interesting idea which I saw on a Notts County's supporters website: * The Club will have a different sponsor for their shirts, for each month of the season. Up to 10 companies will be featured. Interesting supporters buying a replica shirt can buy it without a sponsors logo, or choose to have any one of the ten placed on the front. I wonder which sponsor will be the most popular? A variation on what has been discussed above, use by a big city club who are huge in comparison with Morton, with an idea which could be very popular with this level of Football. I think you’ll find that they’re now ‘English non-league permadiddies’. The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before.. So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are

They can keep telling themselves that while planning their routes to 'Chorley', 'Maidenhead' and a bunch of other two-bob, as good as made up shiteholes in their diddy tinpot league next season.
