Mr Toon
The Morton team from August would put about 5 past the one we saw on Saturday. This revisionist stuff is just pure nonsense. The Morton team from August put 5 past exactly no one and didn't look like doing so any time in the future. Unless you include a home game against Albion Rovers currently the poorest senior team in Scottish Football. Its record was not great. There is no point in going over the McKinnon stuff again. It has been done to death and we will never and can never know. Maybe JJ should/could have done better with what most would regard as an imbalanced squad but we should try to retain some sense of perspective for now and the future. dunning1874
Will that conclude our business then? We’ve used up all our domestic loans now, so you’d imagine so unless we have any more English targets lined up or there are players becoming free agents at the last minute. Mr Toon
We’d try and hit Albion Rovers on the counter if we played them tomorrow. I understand where you are coming from with that. I'd like Jonathan Mitchell to ask JJ what he means when he uses that phrase, and he does use it frequently. My impression is that he means trying to draw teams out so that we can get in behind them rather than being ultra defensive and hoping to hit on the break. I'm hoping to see much more attractive football with the new signings in the lineup and do acknowledge entirely that we need to and can do better. I took it to mean that, when we inevitably have to defend in a game, he wants us to be able to attack much more quickly and positively when we win possession back. Has mentioned wishing to be quicker, more brave, etc. I hope we now set up in a variation of 4-5-1/4-3-3/4-2-3-1 and can bring a 2nd striker on for a 4-4-2 to change things up if we need to, or wish to be more attacking from the off depending on the game. vikingTON
Time will tell whether those who have argued almost from day one that JJ is a dud are correct or those who take the view that given time and the chance to shape his own team he may well come good. ‘almost from day one’ = actually from about day 60, on the basis of a series of entirely unacceptable shoeings and dire football served up by said manager in the middle of a league campaign. But those facts really don’t suit your wagon-circling agenda here, so were substituted with the Instant Persecution of St Jonathan myth instead. The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before.. So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. Has mentioned wishing to be quicker, more brave, etc. Which would be why he has served up four months of the most turgid, slow possession-based drivel in the recent history of the club - indeed much slower (and less effective) than his two predecessors with many of the same key players in the squad. What the manager says and what the manager does have been entirely at odds with each other so far, so there’s not much point in trying to work out his next cunning plan from his latest media soundbite. El gofer
From the midfield played on Saturday, I would expect JJ to pick McAlister, Millar and Dykes again. Also, Kiltie and McConnell will be on loan to get games so a front three of those two and Dallas. Saw an article referring to McConnell as a midfielder. Possibly in a similar role to Tiffoney, with Kiltie playing off Dallas. Personally, I would have Millar, Tidser and Dykes as a 3. The suggestion of McAlister at right back isn't ridiculous given he has played there. 20.1.

El gofer
Kiltie is a second striker/#10 type, winger at a push. Definitely not a wingback. Pretty much where he had McHugh playing on Saturday, I would imagine Kiltie taking his place. And O'Connell in for Telfer. I emphasise that is what I see JJ doing rather than what I think is the best option. 20.1.
so72
I would go - McCrorrie; Tumilty, Kilday/Waddell, Buchanan, Ireadale; Millar, Dykes; O'Connell, Tidser, Kiltie; Dallas.

I'd go something along them lines too. When you loom at it like that it gives us the likes of McHugh, McKeown, Oliver, McAlister, Gaston and Telfer as options. That's not a bad squad by any means. I'd he can't get us playing well with them players and that competition for places then he's worse than he's seemed so far.

Just hoping for better and that the signings in this window will be able to produce. I didn't say that you had; but the idea that a couple of signings will change the mentality of a manager who tries to absorb pressure and hit East Fife on the break should be taken with a shovelload of salt right now. What he says and what he then sets out on the park have been two different things since the start of his tenure. TRVMP
The next month really will be make-or-break for JJ. He's now been given the ability to bring in a lot of his own guys. Maybe not as many as he'd like, and maybe more loanees than he'd prefer, but that's three players in from major clubs. What we can say is that he's gone for a particular type of player - young midfielders (suggesting a bit of pace, maybe?) offering more width than previously. And he's also earmarked Kiltie to play behind the forward as well as on the wing. So if he's not been happy with the punts up the pitch, he'll want to fix it this way. *IF* he can pull this off and solve our goalscoring problem, we're not a huge longshot for the playoffs. If he can't...
