If it was to be a model like Vitesse that would be fantastic for us, but the link between Vitesse and Chelsea has obvious benefits for Chelsea as well as Vitesse. They have a massive youth system due to the number of players they hoard from 16 onwards and the link with Vitesse guarantees first team football at a not terrible level for the more talented lot of their youngsters who are still nowhere near the first team.

The same logic doesn't apply to Newcastle - any youngsters who are any good could move to a higher level than the Scottish Championship.

Malt,we know no one has said being a feeder club beyond a loan agreement like that between Vitesse and Chelsea is definitely the plan here, but the words 'feeder club' have been used and it's only natural to speculate about how that looks. If there is some kind of formal link with another club beyond 'we'll loan you our best youngsters who aren't ready to play first team football' then that could clearly have disastrous consequences for Morton in being forced to select crap players or surrender our independence as a club as part of any deal. That's what the issue is here, no one is saying it's definitely what's going to happen but it's natural to be concerned about the possibility.

Totally agree and hopefully that will lead them to investing in a higher quality of player and getting into the Premiership

I don't think I would. As there is no guarantee we would drop back down to where we are now. We could very well end up doing a Gretna and be playing our football in the pits of Scottish football if it isn't handled properly. These guys could bring us success but then get bored and jump ship leaving us f*cked financially.

Where we are now is gubbins. That doesn’t mean that we should let any chancer take over the club but let’s not treat milling around the second tier as anything special. It should be viewed a holding position before a launch for promotion and nothing more.

The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before..

So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are

Be concerned. But let’s not forget that Iron Man’s grand alternative strategy that we’re working from right now is to be the 16th best youth setup in a country that is crap at football yet still miraculously unearths the next Lisbon Lions in Braeside. We’re not starting with a credible plan which changes how we should view any alternatives to the status quo.

A Newcastle feeder scenario at least has a logic to it that ‘youth-based sustainability’ has completely lacked from the beginning.

It’s good that people are likely to call them out. But has any mention of “feeder” club actually been made by anyone involved? People talking about chucking the club after 30 years of supporting them based on a couple of guys getting shown how Andy Bryan’s new tumble dryer works.

Every Scottish club aspires in some sense or other to be a feeder club to the English Premiership and Championship.

It's not the 'wee' clubs alone, Celtic have made huge sums (by Scottish Football standards) selling players to England and elsewhere.

To make any decent money however you have to have good players to sell and that doesn't mean unproven boys.

The Easdales have an excellent record of taking over failing or under performing businesses and making them successful and in making the investment necessary to achieve that end.

Is quite interesting that the perception at Ibrox was that they weren't Rangers men but saw it as a business opportunity. Hence the headlines, 'We're not going to take lectures from Morton supporters.'

It is obvious that we need real investment at Morton if we want success and if in the longer term that means that like every other successful Scottish club we lose players to English clubs then so be it, particularly if we sell for realistic values.

We have been in the doldrums far too long already and while I admit to some concerns I regard the breaking stories as exciting and potentially good news.

That's aspiring to sell players, not being structured to help another team regardless of results for us.

Aye, it’s been absolutely terrible. It’s hope that it’ll be better next year that keeps you going. It’ll probably never be better, but at least the effort will be for the benefit of Morton.

Pish. If there is no coherent reason to expect that things will be better next season then both the fans and the club’s custodians should seek change. That’s precisely why Duffy was emptied to the dismay of his media buddies in the summer - and if the stated, three year plan also isn’t working out then we’ll need to seek an alternative to that as well. They should consider everything under the sun to have this once-proud club punching above its weight again instead of just shrugging their shoulders and accepting parochial diddydom.

That doesn’t make this rumoured proposal automatically a good idea but some of these arguments against it stink to high heaven.

People should be vigilant but you are right, there's no point in jumping to conclusions yet.

Exactly.

There not going to be coming to fine tune Inverclyde's pool of football talent - there's much more in the way of local benefits than there is money there. Graham Carr is a scout and Derek Llambias is a dealer, and they go far and wide looking for talent to exploit.

Bottom line here is that these guys aren't in football for the success of football clubs. We are more than well warned, from many places, to steer well clear. We should heed that advice.

Not a huge fan of the wait and see approach when there's a track record of dodgy behaviour and a massive club with passionate fans that has had the life sucked out of it.

If Vladimir Romanov was linked to investing in the club I doubt people would be waiting on seeing how it worked out.

Good people will do good things, bad people will do bad things, but only with religion do good people do bad things!

Think that's it in a nutshell. Morton haven't achieved a single thing of note for a full-time club (as in, a few 2nd and 3rd Division wins ain't cutting it) in the last 30 years, it'd be stupid not to keep an open mind to any serious proposals that might improve our standing.

Of course we're going to be wary and hard to please after what happened with Scott, but that doesn't mean there's not a good offer to be had. Whether this is such an offer or not, who knows, but there's no point dismissing it without knowing what it is.
