Ashley is trying to find a buyer for Newcastle though, that’s what I don’t get. His estimates for what the club are worth are wildly off, but he is trying to sell. Why would he be looking for a feeder club?

It doesn’t read like Ashley’s got anything to do with it, it’s his far less glamorous / grubbier mates. Bring back Mike Peden,

PSV, Vitesse and Antwerp all seem to have done well - especially Vitesse who owe their current status to Chelsea loanees.

PSV: not a feeder club

Vitesse: small number of Chelsea loanees from the cream of their academy

Royal Antwerp: suffered probably the worst spell in their history with well over a decade outside the top flight (but at least they had Ronnie Wallwork!)

Aye, it’s been absolutely terrible. It’s hope that it’ll be better next year that keeps you going. It’ll probably never be better, but at least the effort will be for the benefit of Morton.

The point of a football club is that the team on the park are playing to win trophies for the club and get a move. Not get themselves ready for the first team at their real club.

If you want to be some sort of cuckold colt team fan then knock yourself out.

Paul McGowan, Declan Manus, Jamie Lindsay....we have been taking all

Sorts of loan players and they performed well even though one eye on their parent club.

We don't know how it will look so a bit over dramatic to start crying about it. Until the takeover is complete and we n kw where we stand it is all speculation that we will be a feeder etc.

Should add, if we are to be a feeder club to England...we really need to improve the Calibre of player at cappirlow which can only be a good thing.

How many players have we sold in th last 15 year? 2? Fred and Tisder? £80k combined.

We are a provisional club and , without the title, we should be a feeder/selling club To bigger teams. That's how we should be making a profit, money and investment.

Look at Falkirk and Hamilton.

Every club in Scotland has a price.

Yes, look at Falkirk indeed - scrapped their academy and filled their first team this season with English players. And now they're bottom of the league.

For what it's worth I prefer the Falkirk model to the Morton model, but it's 100% in the execution. Scott Tiffoney would walk into the Falkirk team, for example, because rather than signing hungry, talented players who just missed the cut-off at major clubs, they have signed a job lot of absolute diddies, half of whom should be playing Sunday League.

There is no one way to succeed in football, there is no silver bullet. It rests entirely on the competence and good faith of the people making the decisions and signing the cheques.

I said i accept loan players are part of the game. If Lindberg and Rajamaki were on loan to us for a year they’d have long been forgotten, just as the likes of Earnshaw are.

They were here to get a bigger move, but they were our players. Every player at every club on the planet, bar Barcelona and Real Madrid are playing for a move. Everyone understand that, and it’s quite a bit different from being a training facility.

My point was the number of players Falkirk cashed in on.

They cashed in primarily on academy graduates, while our two sales were players released from bigger clubs. There's more than one way to skin a cat.

Getting a couple of players on loan per season from a club due to a friendly relationship between both clubs is a completely different scenario than the club being set up to replace Newcastle's youth academy due to dodgy links between the clubs.

To use the Celtic and Man City model that was mentioned earlier, Celtic have the power to have Arzani play in the reserves if he's deemed not good enough for the first team, whereas if we have five Newcastle loan players at Morton and only one of them is good enough or the first team, we will still have five Newcastle loanees playing every week in the first team.

Good people will do good things, bad people will do bad things, but only with religion do good people do bad things!

You don't know that. Like I said, we don't know what if any relationships we will have

That's exactly the point. He isn't trying to sell, that's why he give it a delusional valuation. He's trying to give off the impression that he's willing to sell.

If it was to be a model like Vitesse that would be fantastic for us, but the link between Vitesse and Chelsea has obvious benefits for Chelsea as well as Vitesse. They have a massive youth system due to the number of players they hoard from 16 onwards and the link with Vitesse guarantees first team football at a not terrible level for the more talented lot of their youngsters who are still nowhere near the first team.

The same logic doesn't apply to Newcastle - any youngsters who are any good could move to a higher level than the Scottish Championship.

Malt,we know no one has said being a feeder club beyond a loan agreement like that between Vitesse and Chelsea is definitely the plan here, but the words 'feeder club' have been used and it's only natural to speculate about how that looks. If there is some kind of formal link with another club beyond 'we'll loan you our best youngsters who aren't ready to play first team football' then that could clearly have disastrous consequences for Morton in being forced to select crap players or surrender our independence as a club as part of any deal. That's what the issue is here, no one is saying it's definitely what's going to happen but it's natural to be concerned about the possibility.
