Because he was a top prospect in his position from Scotland that Newcastle could add to their collection of 17,000 centre-backs for a pittance - they weren't signing him to walk straight into their first team. Maybe not of that but was he not accused of threatening to slash police or something a year or 2 ago? I think his father was beaten up by known gangsters and he went seeking retribution. He'll end up behind bars eventually. I met him at a boxing event at a hotel in Glasgow a year or so ago and he was surrounded by very dodgy people.
