dunning1874 Posted March 17 Posted March 17 Sean Crighton is the interim assistant at Queen's Park, with Steven MacLean in interim charge. Going from Davidson to MacLean says they can continue the St Johnstone trajectory and appoint Levein next. Cet Homme Charmant Posted March 17 Posted March 17 Stephen Welsh is currently on loan at Mechelen from Celtic. I got chatting with a Mechelen fan today, and it's fair to say he isn't super impressed with him. He asked what he was like during his time with us, but as he left us before Covid and live match streaming I really couldn't say. Was he any good?

He was very raw and played mainly out of position at fullback, but no, he wasn't great. 1
dunning1874 Posted March 18 Posted March 18 He was terrible, but that was almost entirely down to Hopkin playing him at right back because we didn't have one (having loaned Tumilty out) so spent the first half of the season rotating between Welsh and Jacobs there. He had two appearances at centre back, once moving there in the first half after an injury to the starting centre back and once starting in the middle of a back three. In both those games he strolled through it with cigars out, I reckon he'd have been great if we'd actually played him in his real position. Incidentally we haven't had a loanee from Celtic since. Even though it was entirely down to Hopkin being an idiot rather than the culture of the club or anything, they were apparently so annoyed by our misuse of him that they decided we were cut off as a destination for their loanees. Somewhat ironic when Celtic have done far more to harm Welsh's career, hanging onto him to play about 10 games a season to the age of 25 because they can use him as a homegrown player to pad out their European squad. 1 Brian Wake my Lord, Brian Wake Brian Wake my Lord, Brian Wake Brian Wake my Lord, Brian Wake Oh Lord, Brian Wake
Ferguson Posted March 18 Posted March 18 Seems as though no one gets as many players on loan from Celtic anymore. Either they’d rather their young talent languish in a mediocre lowland league “B” team or clubs at our level just aren’t enticed by teenagers that have proven to be mediocre at lowland league level, this season being the first they’ve actually done quite well. Can’t say I’m devastated over it, for every Jamie Lindsay there’s a Luke Donnelly. 1

Like others have said, my memories of him are that he got consistently torn apart at right back. Looked much better when filling in at centre back despite not being the biggest, so was inevitably punted back out to right back at the earliest opportunity. The whole loan was a total waste of everyone’s time. 1
Cet Homme Charmant Posted March 18 Posted March 18 He is, aye. He's not getting much game time with Mechelen, 7 league appearances so far, but most from the bench, I think.

Although he was played out of position, it didn't even look like he had the basics to be a professional footballer. 2

AyrshireTon Posted April 7 Posted April 7 Mark Russell signs for two more years at Stranraer. McGhee needs some support, there's no-one backing him up. Hayes playing it forward, Bell being forced to do it all alone, now forward from Marr, here's Ritchie, still Andy Ritchie, look at the control... That is a marvellous goal from Andy Ritchie. Twenty minutes on the clock and Morton's supporters come alive. A goal which epitomises the control, the arrogance, the cheek of Andy Ritchie.

TopCat Posted April 8 Posted April 8 Gary Oliver has also signed an extension at Falkirk. Can't say I've ever had him pegged as a top tier player, but he was always tidy and hardworking for us.
gmfc_craig Posted April 10 Posted April 10 Austin Samuels has signed for Rushall Olympic FC of The National League North
