Future of Cappielow?

Again, IIRC, there was talk of moving to the Spango Valley. Long before the Easdales got their hands on the property.

The land that the Scottish Prison Services owns down there, the old Greenock High School/Glenburn School site, would be ideal size wise. Train station nearby could be re-utilised. The roads would be a total ball-ache on match days mind you.

I think there have been plans to build a few things on there, but it's a total marshland. I'm not sure whether it would be fit to build on, otherwise I presume the Prison Service would have furthered their plan to build on it.

You address me by my proper title, you little bollocks!

There was a school on it before...

Not to mention, there's plenty ways to build on tricky ground conditions.

The school did start to sink as soon as it opened apparently, but yeah of course there are ways around it.  Probably wouldn’t be ideal for the pitch drainage either if it’s wet land.

If there’s a way that staying at Cappielow could be viable then that will always be my preference, but if we did have to move I would definitely favour spango valley over parklea which had been suggested in the past.  I can also think of far worse places for a pre match pint than the burns lounge.

Plenty mitigation measures for this, which aren't always obvious at the time ie when school was built, but with benefit of hindsight.

Kingston Dock, in the smelly wee Port, was build on water (back filled with sand). Everton's new stadium the same. Ground condition, irrespective of where in Greenock, isn't the issue, unless it incurred significant cost above another site with more favorable ground conditions, but they're likely few and far between.

It's pie in the sky stuff anyway

Eh no, we are not Hamilton/Cove.

Today only further confirmed that the sun roof is an excellent innovation. Hopefully the dweebs at the insurance company won't insist on a like for like replacement - either a retractable or transparent cover will have us all looking like St. Tropez residents in no time.

Stack they cabins up to create a formidable wall and Cappielow will be like the Scottish Bombonera!

Those container stands strike me as a false economy. You don't see shipping containing just lying about rusting anymore. They're either used for their intended purpose or at worst used for TEU storage or retail in developing countries like Kazakhstan or Greece.

I wonder if they’re now being manufactured specifically for non-shipping purposes, rather than converted, like some of the container workshop things you can buy for your garden - a prefab built specifically to fit on existing trucks to be readily transportable.

In any case, not at all a serious suggestion, as you no doubt sensed - though the thought of stacking a dozen or so up for the sheer oddball spectacle of it holds some appeal…

That should be nothing to do with us. We've got the best, and actual, enclosure in football.

Manchester United to build their 100,000 capacity stadium using prefabricated ‘modules’ to be shipped down the canal.

A couple of thousand of those containers, give or take? 😀

[The Norman Foster plan does look like it would be very impressive, provided they can get the cash together. Not convinced the proposed government backing would be universally supported, mind you]

Would moving Cappielow to Pottery Street, if we could find the investment, be a better option?

New purpose built stadium.

Is that not land owned by the council or Arnold Clark? If so they'll want a fair whack for it I imagine.

There's a storm on the horizon

And for that I can't see the sun

For I'll keep a waiting on the pavement

For the ice cream van to come

I believe the majority of the land is owned by Peel Ports, whilst the remainder is owned by Riskend Aggregates.
