Corrected - thanks for pointing that out. But seriously, which one is black?
-
Do me a favour please and lemme know which of these is blue and which is black (taken from the shorts in the photo that was sent out with the vote) specs or no specs the club need to do better here. Almost everyone I spoke to about this thought that option b is black & yellow. Add to this the fact many will be reading their email on a phone screen. It would have been nice if they had provided slightly better images

Morton vs Arbroath 8th November
Greacen2000 replied to RossMcC1874's topic in General Morton Chatter
Massive result which we absolutely needed with Queens Park getting the win & the 3 above us all dropping points. Could have been more comfortable in the end but for an amazing save followed by a goal line clearance, and the chance McKay had. I thought McPherson had a much better game. Still a couple of poor decisions and definitely room for improvement, but on the whole a decent shift from him. I don't have any issue with McKay taking the shot. He created the chance for himself out of nothing, and had he squared it for Garrity & it not led to a goal, the same people would probably be criticising him for not having a pop. In the end it didn't make a difference to the result so it doesn't matter. My main take away was actually the skill, pace & strength he showed in creating the opportunity - something I hope to see more of from him - we sure need it. That finish from Moore - wow. At the time I thought it was a header but watching it back that was an outrageous finish that a centre half has no right to be making. I thought the goal last week was maybe a bit of luck - stuck his leg out and managed to send it goalward, but there was no mistaking saturdays goal - it was a top drawer finish. Honestly, if we weren't so thin defensively I would be suggesting we give him a shot up front. Still absolutely brutal to watch for long spells, but we got the result which gives us something to build on. Another 3 points next week please -
You could put the likes of Paul Hartley, John Spencer & Robert Earnshaw into that same category. All looked like good players during their short loan spells here but few people would have predicted them going on to have the careers they did. Im struggling a bit to think of a goalkeeper - the only name that comes to mind is McCrorie. I didn’t really rate him during his time with us and was never impressed by him in the times I’ve watched him since. Nonetheless he managed to establish himself at Killie and even got into a couple of Scotland squads before getting injured. From what I’ve read he seems to be doing well with Esbjerg and I expect will get recalled by in Jan due to Stryjek looking like he will be out long term.

great shout - I can't believe nobody else thought of that one already

Tiffoney is a great shout & Lamie was the first name that came to mind for me when I saw the thread pop up. A lot of people were laughing at us when we signed Jai Quitongo for the second time, but he proved a lot of people wrong, myself included. Despite a lack of end product, he still managed to to be a very effective player for us (when fit) and there have certainly been times in the last couple of seasons when we could have benefitted from having someone like him as an option. Ross Forbes is probably worth a shout too - at the time of us signing him in a swap deal with Andy Barrowman (lol) few could have predicted the impact he would go on to have with that magic wand of a left foot. Wake was a pretty unimpressive signing - he had a patchy goalscoring record (which continued to be the case throughout his time with us) but the goals he did score at the end of the 07-08 season kept us up and rightly earn him legendary status in the hearts of many 'ton fans. Going back a few years, I would say Peter Cormack was definitely one that surprised me. When he first came in he looked absolutely awful and took a lot of abuse (along with accusations of nepotism due to his dad being assistant manager). He eventually went on to become something of a cult hero, endearing himself to the fans by bagging a memorable winner at love street as well as putting in some solid performances when he was moved into midfield. Looking back even further, Ian Mcdonald was definitely an unglamourous signing. Former partick midfielder coming to the end of his career - he lacked mobility and was a bit of a joke figure to some with his unathletic appearance, porn star moustache, terry nutkins bald mullet & orange sunbed tan. While never exactly becoming a star player for us, McGraw undeniably saw something in him that others didn't as he was a really solid stalwart, helping to marshall an inexperienced midfield & having a big influence on helping to bring on talented youngsters like McInnes & Mahood.

Sounds more like a case of your expectations increasing at a greater rate than squad quality. At this point last season we were still winless but had already been beaten twice, and as Topcat mentions above we had some absolutely honking players in the squad who were way worse than anything we have in the squad at the moment. Not saying everything’s perfect - clearly there’s a lot of room for improvement but it’s early days yet and based on the squad we have I fully expect us to get better as the season goes on
-
That's a bit harsh - there are a few players who have been pretty poor this season but Ballantyne wouldn't be the first name that comes to mind. Based on earlier comments by the gaffer I was expecting us to have brought in at least 1 more player by now, but obviously other far more important events have taken place and it's understandable that nothing has happened on this front for the past few weeks.

That was a very hard watch today. It felt at the time like we had robbed the point, but looking back I would say a draw was probably a fair result - both teams were very poor today and in the end we created just as many chances as Ayr did. Let’s not forget also that apart from blues, we had basically an entire midfield missing - if available I’m sure Crawford & Gilliespie would have made a big difference to how we played, and again the hugely influential Wilson started on the bench which makes me think he must be carrying a knock. Yes we need to start picking up wins and yes it’s disappointing not to beat a very poor Ayr side at home but all things considered I think we have done well to be sitting unbeaten after 3 games and but for a terrible penalty decision against Patrick we would be sitting on 5 points. Looking at our next few fixtures its hard to predict where we might pick up our first win - St Johnstone & Raith will both be very tough games, and there’s no guarantee of us beating either Arbroath or QP away either. If our injury problems clear up & we manage to get in another defensive option then I think we have the makings of a really decent squad, but if not then we could easily find ourselves in trouble very quickly

No idea - I expect the info on season ticket holders etc is held by fanbase but they must have some sort of database on the back end to support tontv subscriptions etc. MCT have purchased a CRM tool (sheepCRM) but apparently the work on fully implementing it was paused when all the stuff over the summer happened. This needs to be resumed as a priority now things have settled down and the new board is in place as it is key to how we engage with members and manage membership & fund raising efforts. In lieu of this I’m guessing the best case scenario is that its probably being run on a spreadsheet

Absolutely devastating news. I hope the club will give the gaffer all the time that he & his family need to come to terms with this. Nothing can make the pain go away, but hopefully knowing that they have the love & support of the fans and everyone associated with the club will give a little comfort at this terrible time.

The meeting started with the news about Remi and a minutes silence. MCT will be working with the club in agreeing on what is appropriate in terms of for the family, hospital staff, charity etc. Apologies were given with MCTs current representatives on the club board being absent from the meeting. Then followed a board update giving high level overview of what has happened in the past year in terms of overall financial contributions to the club, members who have joined & left the board. Not a huge amount of note here. The turmoil of the summer was mentioned but not discussed in detail It was confirmed that all nominees have been approved to join the board. More detailed financial breakdown was then given. Overall contributions from MCT to the club have dropped by about 20K in the past year. This is attributed to a 50k per annum contribution from a benefactor coming to an end, which has been offset by a slight rise in member contributions. A further 10K was given to MCT as part of the estate of a member who passed away and this money has been given to MITC to go towards match tickets for deprived/low income people in the community. 2 amendments were put forward - the first one was just correcting an error in wording replacing "charity" with "company", which passed with ease. The 2nd amendment was proposed by Stuart Duncan around revoking membership if payments are stopped. Stuart pitched it as a way of protecting MCT income by discouraging people from cancelling/reducing contributions. This was faced with a fair amount of questions and disagreement. In general people seemed to agree that work needs to be done in this area, but that kicking people out of MCT probably isn't the best way to go about it in the first instance. More needs to be done to generate new & increased contributions while looking at ways of allowing people who cannot afford £10 per month to be involved - both tiered memberships & payment holidays were mentioned alongside providing more incentives for people to join & contribute. Gordon Richie highlighted that in its current form, the proposal would lead to a benefactor who has contributed over 100K to MCT being at risk of losing their membership if they cancelled a £10 direct debit. Stuart was given the opportunity to withdraw the proposal but did not take it up. It went forward to the vote and was not passed. The new board will take the action to look into this area in more detail before coming back to the membership with further proposals. During the discussion on the 2nd amendment a lot of other information came out. It seems like due to legacy issues with gaps in admin/process when MCT was first set up, we do not know exactly how much any given member has contributed in total, and aren't even exactly sure how many non paying members there are. Work on implementing a proper CRM with a database of all member details was stalled due to the turmoil over the summer but should be resuming now that things are settled. This work needs to take place before we will have the ability to run targeted funding campaigns or implement tiered memberships etc. All in all it was a pretty constructive meeting with a lot less fireworks than might have been expected. I would say that the news of Remis passing would have understandably been a factor in some of the discussions being a bit more muted.

Both guys are Aberdeen legends and have a greater legacy with them than they do with us (both in terms of games played & honours won). As such, it was inevitable that they would get an especially warm welcome from their fans, and it’s only to be expected that they would reciprocate. I agree that it’s not a great look but for me the mistake was in bringing them out at half time, or indeed having them as guests for that match in the first place. That said, a bit more self awareness from them would certainly have helped

Dreadful performance. They constantly caused us problems when they attacked down the wings - Delaney and Ballantyne looked really exposed and didn’t get enough support from their team mates. I would really like us to have another option at CB which would allow us to move Longridge out to LB and bench Delaney. O’Halloran was poor again - lots of running but to no effect. Going forward he got into dangerous positions maybe twice but it didn’t amount to anything other than a soft penalty claim. Defensively he was constantly getting caught out of position and leaving those behind him exposed. We definitely improved with the subs but still looked miles off it. Even when we got the ball into areas where we could have threatened, we got crowded out or ran out of steam. Try an early ball into the box! Have a long range shot! We didn’t do any of that all day, and also were wasteful with corners and free kick. Not convinced Adeloye and Brophy will work in the same team. Once Tomi went off I thought Brophy looked better but he isn’t the sort of player you can launch high balls into all day so he had a pretty thankless task. Credit to the cowshed lads for the tifo and for all the noise they made - great effort. If the players had put in half the effort you did then we might have had a different result. Storer outstanding again - made some absolutely ridiculous saves. He is going to be a huge player for us this season All in all a 3-0 defeat to a top 6 club and Scottish cup holders isn’t any surprise. The biggest disappointment for me is that they didn’t look exactly great, and we failed to do the very basics that would have asked some questions of them.

The only way this lineup makes sense to me is if Shug is carrying a knock. Very attacking lineup but the midfield does look a bit lightweight - Blues is going to need to put in some shift
