Hej
I'm no structural engineer, but that does not look like damage that will be easy, cheap or quick to fix In fact, is there any danger we'll be told to just fucking demolish the whole roof/stand? Hope I'm just catastrophising Edited January 24 by Hej
dunning1874
Whatever the long-term cost/consequence, can't see fans in the Cowshed for a while. vikingTON
Still a good 6 hours or so of severe winds to go, so the damage could prove cumulative as much as anything else. The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before.. So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are
Ton in Shawlands
Looks like the band of translucent sheets in the middle of the slope has blown out leaving the metals sheets above & below in place (from the one photo I've seen - it's not structural). Rossco1874
Hopefully covered under insurance. Doubt it will be fixed quickly though luckily we aren't due back there until 15th Feb so few weeks before it becomes an issue for home games.

Ton in Shawlands
As I thought, its the rooflights. The paired lines running down the roof are metal 'soaker' flashings covering the holes the old floodlight support steel ran through. They are stopping the sheets either side from going (for now). Not a given as many insurers have clauses limiting liability if the wind speed is above a set level - no surprise it is often relatively low. It is also possible the club does not have any cover. Might be best starting the gofundme page like wimbledon did for their pitch.
Popular Post Greacen2000
Absolute nightmare for the club but not exactly surprising. That roof has been there over 20 years IIRC and has been showing signs of its age for some time now. There is no such thing as a good time for this to happen, but it is a real kick in the balls for this to come hot on the heels of the repair bill for the gas leak and at a time when our cashflow will have been pretty much zero for almost a month Hopefully we are covered for these repairs under insurance, and any shortfalls on that front can be met per above suggestions by crowd funding and/or support from local businesses. Could also be an opportunity for the club to sell advertising/sponsorship space on the new roof (I am sure that Fir park has or at least used to have adverts on the roof of a similarly constructed stand). Probably unrealistic but wouldn't it great if there was a way of installing a camera gantry at the same time as replacing the roof.
Greacen2000
On the subject of the vacant plot of land (and lack of progress in the development thereof), obviously stuff like that has a tendency to slip down the list of priorities in light of our razor thin margins, especially so when unforeseen bills come up as we have seen today. My vision for developing it would be to look at cost effective ways of making use of the area without necessarily having to actually build a new bricks & mortar structure. I can imagine having some repurposed shipping containers around the perimeter which would be fitted out for bar, catering & toilet facilities, then a central area having some bench seating & being covered by a tensile fabric/shade sail to protect from the elements. The cost & timelines of planning & implementing this sort of a development would be significantly less than putting up a new building in the plot. There are also a lot of businesses in the local area who would be well positioned to help with these sorts of plans (peel ports for the containers, several sailmakers nearby for the canopy, builders & joiners for the ground work & fit out etc). Obviously it would still require the club to invest a significant sum of money, but there could be potential there to have some of the costs covered by these businesses in exchange for promotion/advertising etc, and we could end up with something that would function as a fan zone on matchdays and have potential as a mixed use venue for hire the rest of the time. Alibi
That doesn't look structural. The purlins seem to be in place. With luck it should just involve getting new cladding sheets, whether opaque or translucent, and screwing them on, although if any of the substructure has been bent it might be a bit more complicated. As long as anything loose or damaged is fixed or removed, the terracing could still be used although obviously rain would get in the exposed area. The undamaged bit should be fine. I would imagine there will be insurance in place although probably will be an excess on the cost. There will be a lot of structures with similar damage after that storm. it's not an insulated roof so a simple fix. 2 "Any nation given the opportunity to regain its national sovereignty and which then rejects it is so far beneath contempt that it is hard to put words to it." vikingTON
Did Cappielow/the Cowshed suffer previous storm damage? I'm thinking that around the late 90s there was a similar impact, presumably under Scott. TRVMP
1 hour ago, para said: I know it is too expensive but install solar panels Its an ill wind Serious question, do people do solar panels in the West of Scotland? Maybe they're more powerful than I give them credit for but it seems like a false economy. And isn't the shed roof north facing? There's got to be some government thing we can scam, either way. Rebuild it and put a wee windmill on top and they'll pay for it.
