The Big 2018-19 Squad Thread

Cardle is your typical flashy championship winger. There's a reason he (and dozens of his type) hasn't played at a higher level than a mid-table side - he's a ball eater who constantly turns over possession.

Denny Johnstone got a lot of stick in his first few months when he wasn't scoring. He looked weak and nervous which never goes down well in a league which is still blood and thunder at times.

However, once he warmed up to match fitness he was an absolute menace & he kept us out of a relegation scrap almost single handedly. I'd love to have him back, especially if we're not just going to be booting long balls over the top next season.

Duffy's style hindered Denny IMO. He's useless as a target man, rarely wins a header for a guy his size, but when the balls played into his feet his hold up play and touch brought others into the game. Would love to see him and Jai together, with Millar, Telfer and Tidser behind them they wouldn't be short on chances.

Re: cardle that isn't strictly true as he has played 2 seasons in the Scottish premiership. I'm not saying he should be playing at that level though by any means.

Regardless of that, he would only need to be good enough to produce in this division, which he can and has done in the past (as recently as last season, which I have already previously illustrated).

He has alot of experience at this level too, including winning the title with Dunfermnline in 2010-11.

He also offers something to the squad which we seriously lacked last season and that is someone who provides width, is direct and willing to ask questions of the opposition defence. He's dangerous.

You are spot on re: Denny though!

Falkirk apparently signing 5 players within the next 48 hours, there was an interview with Hartley on their site saying 3 are signed already and another 2 are close. ( if only we could do the same btw... still amazed there hasn't been a first interview with McKinnon-  learned more from  rocksport or whatever they are called, than official Morton channels)

Both clubs were linked with Gary Miller so wonder if he is one of the 5.

You would imagine we must be signing a few before pre-season starts back...

Chesh, you buying a season ticket today??

Gavin Reilly has been released by St Mirren, wouldn’t mind us taking a look at him.

Very surprised Murdoch’s been told he can leave. Ray must fancy the other 4 before him.

Not too fussed about Reilly. He had a dreadful season at Dunfermline before St Mirren, and about half of his goals last season game against diddies in the cup games.

Squad of 18, only so many places that can be allocated to central midfield, had to keep Tidser, wanted Millar, McAlister and Telfer, chances for Murdoch to stay were getting slimmer all the time. Harsh, but if McKinnon wanted to shape his own team, a few harsh ones were likely.

Harkins obviously skulked away to Queens rather than waiting to see what happened, we will never know if he would have been cut anyway.

He rejected an offer of a new contract. Whether another offer came in and was then withdrawn by the new manager who wants to put his own stamp on the team is unknown but I think Reilly will be setting his sights higher which could be a bit ambitious on his part.
