RealTonKid
The appointment of Gus MacPherson has been an unmitigated disaster. Two wins out of twelve and one of those was a get-out-of-jail cup win in extra-time, against a team in the league below us. We obviously shat it when Ayr beat us at Cappielow and emptied McElhone, but that decision now looks to have cost us. The last act of self-sabotage of the Rae era, but MCT don’t get a pass on this one.

It has been an abject failure. They should have been emptied by now.
TheGoon
Outside of the Paisley connections I have nothing against Gus. I think he’s a decent enough guy, and was dealt a pretty shit hand with the circus of the squad he inherited. However - he took the job on. He’d watched us on multiple occasions this season and felt he had it within him to steer us to safety and was aware of our many faults, he’s unfortunately failed. He’s shown nothing to suggest he’s the man to take us out of League 1, bugger all. If we want to hit the refresh button, he has to be one of many shown the door. Thanks but no thanks. Popular Post Deego
Agree he comes across like an alright guy, and I couldn't give a fuck if he was at St. Mirren, but he said himself early doors after his appointment that his job was to keep us in the division. If he doesn't do that then he's failed and shouldn't expect to get kept on. For what it's worth, I don't really care if he stays or goes, but if I was in charge that's what I'd be basing my decision on. The majority of the blame for me though still lies with 'Hoppy' and that MacKinnon guy. Pleading poverty yet building a squad almost two times too big in normal times, never mind for a 27-game campaign, and then leaving in a cream puff when told to address the issue. 1

The fact that we happened to beat ICT after making the decision hardly points to McElhone guiding us to safety - just like Gus winning a couple of weeks later didn't lead to him managing that. We happened to pick up a few wins here and there over the season, but no manager did well enough. We weren't good enough throughout the season. No manager was a success. If there was one particular decision that caused us a problem after the initial squad building disaster, it was putting a coach in charge who didn't even want the job rather than having a proper recruitment process when Hopkin left. We were a last payday for him before he retired. He is a Yorkshireman best known for playing at Kilmarnock, we are hardly what you could call 'Home' for him. TRVMP
Fair play for going to manage in a place like Thohoyandou. It's not exactly Cape Town. Lots of pressure, too.

Just when the Scottish football community was getting ready for next season with him, Falkirk and Morton all likely to be in the same league. A wee shame. And before anyone says it - NO. TRVMP
I think almost any manager in the country could have won League Two with the squad and resources he had. Nonetheless, plucky wee QP are getting too big for their boots and it'll be hilarious when it all comes crashing down.

I agree, no manager has been a success this season. McElhone (a fitness coach) seemed to have the players buying into him, where Gus (a once-proven manager at this level) has come in and barely mustered a reaction. No doubt that's largely due to a lack of quality and Gus isn't culpable for that, but the reaction of the players after the whistle blew up at Inverness suggests they were still behind McElhone, although his removal had already been decided. We've been chasing our tail this season with poor decision-making at every juncture of boardroom level. No checks and balances on player recruitment, not replacing Hopkin when he spat the dummy out and opting to offer the job to an unknown quantity for the rest of the season, only to then decide to twist and rake the managerial scrapheap in March.
