The Sir David Irons Vindication Thread

Recommended Posts

A thread for posters to digest and respond to the following facts.

Sir David Irons had three seasons (19 months in full) as manager of The Famous. A period that led The Famous to their highest league finish for twenty-five years and brought Brian Wake to the glorious peak of his career.

Then James 'Snake' Grady and Alan 'King Snake' McManus reckoned that they could do a much better job than him; 'Snake' lasted just seven months though as an abject failure (replacing Brian Wake with Donovan Simmonds - Donovan ****ing Simmonds), while his chump colleague has now achieved a stunning 0% win record as caretaker manager of the Spoon-burners. Two managerial 'careers' that have spanned less than half of Irons' snake-terminated run at this club alone, while earning literally none of his career achievements.

So the question is: how long will it take for all those fluffers for history's most utterly useless, backroom coup to admit that they were completely wrong to turn against Sir David Irons?

It's a toughie.

An honourary seat in the Hampden directors' box must await such a humble and yet dignified servant of this club, IMO.

The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before..

So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are

Thought that it was an obvious fact that bigoted morons like yourself couldn't contribute anything worthwhile to The Sir David Irons Vindication Thread, but here we are.

Back in your box then.

In comparison to those who succeeded him, Irons had a generous budget and also didn't have it capriciously cut from one season to the next. In this way he had a huge advantage over Moore and also to a great extent Duffy. However, the brothers Snake had similar support to Irons and did indeed make an epic hash of it.

I'd say it was time for Irons to go when he did - it was absolutely hopeless by that point and if he could have turned it around we'd already have been in dire straits by then (c.f. the Moore relegation season). He certainly shouldn't be considered a failure as Morton manager but could he do appreciably better than Duffy right now? I doubt it.

Nonetheless he will always be considered a minor yet vital star in the Morton constellation for his deeds alongside St. Brian the Woke.

It was undoubtedly TTG when he left*: largely owing to the multiple, untreatable stab wounds inflicted by the chief snakes.

That does however diminish the role played over months by many armchair sports scientists among the Morton fanbase, who at that time felt qualified to declare with great confidence (often using highly dubious, "inside knowledge") that Irons' training regime was responsible for jobbers like Kevin Finlayson being injured. A suggestion that was conveniently ditched as soon as a less distasteful manager to them took charge: no-one for example seriously claims that Duffy is responsible for our current, extensive injury list. The same gormless attitude led many posters to believe that King Snake wasn't actually a cold-blooded reptile at all: solely because he chatted away to them while they took part in a fans' game. Four months later, he knifed a first team manager and siithered into an assistant role to his mate within minutes of the deed being done.

Given the spectacular failure of both Snakes in any first team management role since, it's now time for those fluffers to cower within the long, cold and dark shadow of Sir David Irons. Preferably cast from an executive box at Hampden.

* Unlike Duffy's abysmal, 0/3 record so far, Irons still managed to effortlessly sword Ayr in their own midden** during the twilight days of his reign; a result that proved to be hugely important in our campaign for league survival.

Some consideration of how the subsequent careers of Brain Weak and David Wedges panned out would be interesting, given that you seem to think they left us at the zenith of their careers.

They, Irons, Grady and McManus should all have been punted. Poor decision making by DFR.

You write in the style of a Victorian novelist in an opium den by the way but don't let the smoke cloud your judgement.

How many semi finals did Irons lead us to? Even Duffy's managed that one.

Being serious for a moment - since the board shamefully sacked Benny Rooney we've had an endless series of disasters who have had their ups and downs, but mostly downs.

Irons spent silly money on wage & contract negotiations and only ever picked his favourites, demoralising many of our younger players. On the upside, he beat Hibs away.

McGhee needs some support, there's no-one backing him up.
Hayes playing it forward, Bell being forced to do it all alone, now forward from Marr, here's Ritchie, still Andy Ritchie, look at the control...

That is a marvellous goal from Andy Ritchie. Twenty minutes on the clock and Morton's supporters come alive. A goal which epitomises the control, the arrogance, the cheek of Andy Ritchie.

We were 5th under Stark in 97-98, Irons highest position was 6th in 08-09.

When we were 5th under Stark there was a 10 team top flight whereas it was 12 when we were 6th under Irons, so overall in Scottish football we were higher.Fair dos to Duffy for beating them both.

Had Duffy beat them both? Possibly having a logic breakdown here but my count Stark had us 15th in the nation whereas Duffy managed 17th last season.

Peter Weatherson is the greatest player since Ritchie, and should be assigned 'chairman for life'

Oh aye, the breakdown is all mine. I've had a total mare there

I can console myself with the knowledge that while I may be stupid, my patter is nowhere near as bad as this:

Brain Weak and David Wedges

Brian Wake my Lord, Brian Wake

Brian Wake my Lord, Brian Wake
