That would be a great job, lots of Americans stay there and some of them will probably tip American amounts.

He certainly knows a shit load about whisky that's for sure!

Said to him "and take one for yourself aswell, even though u did play for st mirren"

I am a cunt at times.

I find this pretty galling tbh, a 34-year-old part-timer who in his words can handle this is saying that Albion Rovers' conduct could trigger a mental episode in others.

Not sure what the six weeks are that he's referring to - surely his contract ran to the end of the playoffs? - but he's been free to speak to Rovers or any club since January. He could have phoned the club himself or had an agent do it.

I don't want to second-guess him and say that he doesn't care about the world outside the football bubble but a part-timer not getting a callback is hardly up there with zero-hour contracts or the people who apply for dozens of jobs and don't even get a rejection letter, is it?

There's a case to say that clubs have a duty of care to their staff and they should be more considerate but players will have to start doing their part as well. Would any player in Scotland give up the unprotected six-month pre-contract in exchange for a retained list being in place by May 31st, for example?

Personally think he is spot on. Notice a lot of players - including our own Chris Millar - supporting the point he makes, and that degree of uncertainty must have the potential to trigger anxiety and/or depression.

Playing the mental health card; you stay classy, Scott.

You don't think that uncertainty about your ongoing employment has the potential to raise anxiety ? Lucky you to have no financial commitments etc. As much as he may be disliked by some... He's quite right to highlight the issue. Some clubs don't give a fuck about their fans or their players, it appears

And if a player/players decide to jump ship, that can't give a manager sleepiness nights or anxiety? Scott has had six months to think about his future, which is a damn sight more than a lot of people get. Again, I don't want to say he doesn't care about such people, but if he or anyone else is anxious about their futures then 1) they're only human, and 2) there seems a fairly easy way of resolving it (have your agent put the feelers out early.)

The point that Rovers could have done better isn't wrong but it's a huge, huge leap to say that they've acted recklessly towards the mental health of their players. Impolite yes, negligent no.

I disagree with much of this, but even then I don’t think what you’ve said contradicts the point he is making, which is less about negligence and more about the disproportionate effects that a lack of common courtesy might have on those with underlying mental health issues.

Sure, which is a decent reason for Rovers to change their ways, but not as good a reason as politeness and decency.

For the sake of their club they would do very well not to admit any culpability here regardless.

Albion Rovers didn't appoint their new manager until May 22 so the time scale is being stretched beyond reason to turn his own seethe into some sort of scandal when it really isn't that. Can't say that I'm convinced by McLaughlin's newly found concern for the wellbeing of professional footballers either, but I'll admit to being heavily biased on account of him being a vile snake both in a Morton jersey and in his hilarious career consisting of perennial relegation ever since.

Hopefully his dreams remain permanently haunted by the time when Sir David Irons released him for 'being too small*' to play for The Famous anymore.

The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before..

So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are

In ex-player news that doesn't involve odious snakes, Andy McLaren is the guest in the latest of Simon Ferry's interviews, with his spell at The Famous and Dougie also being briefly talked about near the end:

I'm going to go all Colin Darroch here and tell everyone how I met Andy McLaren in the St. Enoch Centre the other day. I knew him quite well from his time at Morton as he was a regular in my work, but when we spoke he had very good things to say about Ray McKinnon.

That sort of gave me the fear, given how highly he used to speak of Jim McInally though.

Unless you're also planning to out McLaren as the source of spurious nonsense about the towering Irish centre back he was working with then you haven't quite achieved full Zhivago.

Remember kids - knowing and then grassing in your footballer contacts is the key to living with the stars.

I remember reading in Andy McLaren's book that he was attempting to take legal action against Morton after we released him a year early and didn't give him any compensation, does anyone know if he got any money out of Morton?

You address me by my proper title, you little bollocks!

If it happened in court it would have been reported on, so either nothing came of it or they sorted out some kind of agreement behind closed doors.

Getting pretty tired of McLaren's sanctimony in any case, but if he was entitled to money from the club I hope he got it.

I thought he came across quite well in the simon ferry thing. Never really listened to him before but seems a normal guy.
