vikingTON
It's not really. Salkeld isn't a full back. Correct, the sooner that people abandon that loose description from when he signed the better. He’s a direct swap for Cadden or Nesbitt further up the park, not an actual defender. Which is why we’ve played a parade of central midfielders at right back instead. The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before.. So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are
Alibi
And our next game is...... I mean in the league. "Any nation given the opportunity to regain its national sovereignty and which then rejects it is so far beneath contempt that it is hard to put words to it." vikingTON
A possible solution (or at least a partial remedy) to our defensive problems that hasn't been addressed yet is the formation: if you don't have a reliable centre back partnership then a back three is a logical change to give you the extra cover that you're going to need instead. Our squad was hardly built with a Mike Bassett, flat back four at all times agenda either so I'd like to see us switch back to a 3-4-3 with Strapp and *someone else* as wing-backs for the cup game up there on Saturday. It's the ideal chance to try a slightly different approach and test the results before we face a challenging set of league fixtures later this month. I thought 3 at the back worked in the couple games we tried it in the League Cup. Was surprised it was ditched.
SpoonTon
I thought 3 at the back worked in the couple games we tried it in the League Cup. Was surprised it was ditched. It was a horror show at Ayr, though. That doesn't rule out it's future use, our back fours have been just as bad (including later in that game), but it wasn't as if it was ditched after being a success. Muirhead was left wing back that day, and Tumilty was no-where to be seen at right wing back. We were left with a very narrow back three which Ayr were finding a way behind at will - maybe that was just mostly down to the weaknesses of Grant/McLean?Henk being exposed by a lack of wing back support. If we're trying something out, maybe something like: ______________Salkeld/Muirhead _______Cadden________Nesbitt ___________Colville/Jacobs___Lyon/Jacobs Strapp________________________Millar/Jacobs/Salkeld? ______McAlister___Grant___Welsh

Reverting back to 3-4-3 could work, although the Ayr game showed how badly it can go wrong. I'd also rather have a specialised right wing/full back in there rather than shoehorning folk in there who might be able to do a job. It's too important a position to be pissing around with. You address me by my proper title, you little bollocks!

No, it just showed how badly out of his depth Henk van Schaik was - yet our defensive record is no better now despite a change of formation and that haddy being punted across the sea to where he belongs.
