TorontoTon
'a whole team inside one jersey' is a superb turn of phrase. Can only imagine what it must have been like to watch Morton greats like Tommy Orr and Jimmy Cowan in a match like that, plus others of the same era such as Billy Steel and Billy Campbell. What a team they must have been.

TorontoTon
Sorry might have misread as I can't see the report in mobile but your point remains valid!! They were all with Morton around 1946 so there must have been games when they all played together. Orr and Cowan still with the team in 1951 in the game above. TorontoTon
Here is another lengthy report from my dad's diary from a win over F*lk*rk on Sep 2, 1944: 2nd League Trophy match, at Cappielow ParkMorton (3) 4 – 2 (0) FalkirkScorers: McInnes (2), Orr (2) Team: Johnstone, Higgins, Highet, Campbell, Aird, White, Kelly, Orr, Crum, Garth, McInnes. Morton played toward Greenock in the first half. A fine Wallace save came after Kelly had out-manouevered his opponent and shot. Samuelsson’s first try for Falkirk went loosely into the side-netting. McInnes flicked over the bar from a high lob try. Bagan retaliated with one of his well-known zoomers which thankfully sailed past the right post. MCINNES scored Morton’s first after Kelly had taken the ball downfield. Kelly centred to Crum, who headed to McInnes, who gave Wallace in the Falkirk goal next to no chance from five yards out. The next minute saw another fine passing movement and another Morton goal, with ORR taking the final pass through and again giving Wallace little chance low to the goalkeeper’s right. More was to come, and only two minutes later Morton went three up, with ORR put through once more and again scoring into the right-hand corner of the net. This seemed to promise a wiping-out of any remaining Falkirk hopes, but the Morton forwards did not manage any further repeats up until half-time, before which many narrow escapes were the lot of both teams. Wallace was immediately in the action as the second half started, saving well from a promising Garth shot. A Campbell free to Orr’s head just missed the left angle of post and cross-bar. When Aird slipped in a race with Inglis for the ball, the centre had a fairly open chance but he shot before he needed to and the ball went sailing safely over the right post. Higgins for the second time prevented a break from becoming a goal by clearing neatly from an opposing forward’s toes. Orr, trying to bundle Wallace into his own goal, slipped and was thus offside as he staggered past the now side-stepping ‘keeper. Bagan breaks through for Falkirk’s first goal, beating Higgins and Aird to the ball and shooting past Johnstone to the right-centre of the Morton goal. Orr then has a magnificent overhead flick which seems goal-bound but hits the left-hand post and cannons back into play. MCINNES gathers the rebound, dribbles and shoots home for 4-1. Ogilvie then closes the scoring for Falkirk, with both sides missing further chances in the final hectic minutes. Best defender: Aird, despite slips. Best Forward: Orr. AyrshireTon
September 2nd - 2001 - Berwick Rangers 2-0 Morton First League defeat of the season - and the slide started here. 1995 - St. Johnstone 0-2 Morton (Lilley 2) This first signs that maybe we would be onto something special. Great header lay off from Hawke for the 1st, the 2nd deflecting a Lindberg shot and wrong footing the keeper. 1989 - Morton 0-1 Airdrieonians An absolute farce of a goal from our defence and keeper gave us 4 defeats out of 4. Also our 8th consecutive penalty miss. And Scotsport came to watch. http://youtu.be/aqjQak1DZVE 1978 - Morton 4-1 Heart of Midlothian (Anderson, Ritchie, Russell 2) 1972 - East Fife 4-3 Morton (Chalmers, Mason, Rankin) 1967 - Dumbarton 1-3 Morton (Mason 2, Bartram) League Cup group stage, final game. Top of the group with maximum points. 1961 - Albion Rovers 1-3 Morton League Cup group stage final game, Finished 4th out of 5. 1959 - Stranraer 2-3 Morton (Beaton, Anderson, Collings) 1950 - Aberdeen 6-1 Morton (Orr) League Cup group stage - finished bottom. 1944 - Morton 4-2 F*lk*rk (McInnes 2, Orr 2) See above post too. McGhee needs some support, there's no-one backing him up. Hayes playing it forward, Bell being forced to do it all alone, now forward from Marr, here's Ritchie, still Andy Ritchie, look at the control... That is a marvellous goal from Andy Ritchie. AyrshireTon
September 3rd - 2016 - Queen's Park 2-0 Morton League Challenge Cup. http://youtu.be/8_q_WPt7FcI 2006 - Morton 4-0 Alloa Athletic (McGowan, Lilley, Millar, Templeman) http://youtu.be/RGWiHocSzP0 2003 - Morton 2-0 Stranraer (Bottiglieri, Bannerman) League Cup. During this game kilbrideton and myself were critical of John Maisano's performance. LargsTon gave us both a GIRFUY when John was named MotM. 1997 - Morton 1-0 Clydebank (McArthur) League Challange Cup Quarter Final. 1996 - Morton 3-7 Aberdeen a.e.t (Lilley 2 - 1 pen, Anderson) League Cup. An incredible game. 2-0 down and going nowhere, we get one back through a Lilley penalty with ten minutes left. Scenes and pandemonium everywhere when two goals from Anderson and Lilley put us 3-2 in front. A Billy Dodds penalty (why couldn't the defender, possibly Cormack, have hauled him down earlier and taken the hit) got him a hat-trick. Dean Windass scored four goals in extra time. 1994 - Stirling Albion 2-0 Morton Real shame game stuff here. Peter Cormack tried to get the fans going after taking most of the first half to put in a decent cross and the team generally have a stinker. Stirling score two quick goals and suddenly it looked like we may have trouble getting out of the 2nd division at the first attempt. Fans baying for blood everywhere and two guys wrestled across the stairs over whether it was McGraw's fault for the team he picked or Wilson's fault for not buying players. 1988 - Partick Thistle 1-4 Morton (Roberts, Alexander, McDonald, Clinging) 1983 - Morton 1-1 Hamilton (Miller) Alex Miller's only goal for Morton. 1977 - F*lk*rk 2-3 Morton (Goldthorp, Hutchison, Ritchie pen) League Cup 2nd leg. Agg score 2-3. McGhee needs some support, there's no-one backing him up. Hayes playing it forward, Bell being forced to do it all alone, now forward from Marr, here's Ritchie, still Andy Ritchie, look at the control... That is a marvellous goal from Andy Ritchie.
