I'd have said that it was the game at Gretna that turned Ton fans against Alexander when he came charging down the pitch towards us punching the air and giving it the get it up ye routine.

Anyhow, which ever game it was, I always found his attitude really sad given in what high regard he was held at Cappielow.

Might well have been the away game - I wasn’t at that one. At the Cappielow game he and his coaching staff were jumping about in a huddle after the second goal went in, like they’d won a cup final or something.

Far cry in either event from the friendly chat with the Ton fans outside Raydale when we were in the 3rd.

McGhee needs some support, there's no-one backing him up.
Hayes playing it forward, Bell being forced to do it all alone, now forward from Marr, here's Ritchie, still Andy Ritchie, look at the control...

That is a marvellous goal from Andy Ritchie. Twenty minutes on the clock and Morton's supporters come alive. A goal which epitomises the control, the arrogance, the cheek of Andy Ritchie.

2010 - Morton 1-2 Cowdenbeath (Kean)

Could be wrong, but I reckon this was the game where one of the Cowden players scored an absolute peach of an overhead kick from near the edge of the box.

2004 - Stirling Albion 1-1 Morton (Millar)

2001 - Airdrieonians 3-0 Morton

League Cup.

After watching events unfold in the States earlier in the day, this is probably the least I've ever cared watching us lose a game of football.

Also our last game against Airdrieonians prior to their liquidation.

1998 - Airdrieonians 0-1 Morton (Hawke)

Pity no footage of this one exists - this was an all-out war.

Second half was mental - both teams reduced to 10 men after Harry Curran and one of their players squared up. More tackles ensued and then Airdrie manager Alex MacDonald and our assistant Frank Connor were sent to the stand. At one point an Airdrie player puts in a vicious slide tackle (which misses) and Derek Collins angrily boots the ball off his head from inches away - winning a throw in. Kevin Twaddle is then sent off for trying to play the ball whilst lying on the deck. Hawke put away a header with 10 minutes left and the 9 men held out.

1992 - Raith Rovers 2-1 Morton (Alexander)

Really should have gotten a point here against....the league leaders.

Here is a first-hand report from that home win against Partick on Sep 16, 1944:

3rd League Trophy match, at Cappielow Park

Morton (0) 2 – 0 (0)  Partick Thistle
Scorers:  Kelly, Whyte
Team:  Johnstone, Higgins, Highet, Campbell, Aird, White, Kelly, Garth, Crum, McAloon, McInnes.

Morton played toward Greenock in the first half.  Partick opened on a strong note when a fast rising shot from Gourlay to Johnstone's left caused the keeper to give away a corner in the first minute.  Colgan was Partick's man of the minutes following, when 3 times he sent the ball narrowly over the bar, from a shot and two headers.  Johnstone was well placed to intercept a dangerous lob from the right Partick wing.  Garth retaliated for Morton with two promising shots to the left of the Partick goal.  Colgan again sent the ball very narrowly over the bar before Morton attacked with Garth and Kelly prominent.

McInnes had several poor shots over the bar, from angles which should have given more scope for the normally sharp-shooter.  Johnstone next came into the picture with a fine save from Newall.  It then needed the whole of the Thistle outfield defence to prevent Kelly from getting through in front of Henderson, and even when dispossessed it was at the cost of a corner from which McAloon, a new acquisition who last season played for Celtic, thus making 3 ex-Celts in the Morton forwards, sent the ball well over.  An arcing Newall shot was sent for corner by Johnstone's foot as an emergency measure, and that was the last notable action of the first half.

The second half had not been started long when Kelly slipped the ball to Campbell who first-timed a fine shot from the right wing onto the underside of the crossbar.  As it bounced down, McAloon was there to tap home.  But after consultation the ref gave a 'free' to Partick for "hands" on McAloon's part!  Tough!  Some inter-passing between Crum and McInnes then gave KELLY the chance of a long-range shot which was diverted past Partick 'keeper Henderson to give Morton the lead.

Highet was then injured but soon returned.  McAloon had a promising run towards the right upright before his shot was diverted for a corner.  Morton were now well and truly on the offensive but it was after practically all the forwards had had tries that the second goal came through a half-back.  WHYTE was the scorer, from a simply whiz-banged diagonal shot from 25 yards out into the low left corner of the goal, after being set up by a Crum header-pass.  Other features of the rest of the play were an excellent Crum snap-shot on the turn and an equally brilliantly quick diversion from Henderson for a corner.  Garth and Kelly then had nice tries before the final whistle blew.

Star Morton player:  Kelly
Referee:  R. Calder of Rutherglen.

2004 - Morton 0-3 Brechin City

1999 - St. Mirren 3-2 Morton (Connolly 2 pens)

Some lies from Hitler prior to this clip, The camera misses Lavety sticking his face into Wylie. I remember the way the referee triumphantly asked for the ball and plonked it onto the spot when awarding our first penalty.

A gutless performance, this one. Many chants of "Sack the board" and "McGraw must go" throughout this game.

Leading 1-0 through a leach from Johnny G, Rowan Alexander had a perfectly legitimate headed goal chopped off. Then we folded.
