blakesan
Clown, how the **** can folk who don't particularly like sex offenders be bigots.....you complete idiot. How can they not be? There are a great many people who don't particularly like sex offenders. Of these, some are not bigots, and some are. Got that?
Tonsilitis
I'd tend to agree with Foobs if it was a one off drunken incident or something. The case with Lithgow is, he comes into the category of a serial offender. Was it 4 times? Nah, no excuses for that. He wasn't in the squad again today and didn't see him with any of the players. I take it he hasn't accepted out contract? I am really pleased about this as couldn't bring myself to even applaud this guy. Lithgow wants to come but Clyde are holding out for a ridiculous payment. After today's performance, I would urge Dougie to get the chequebook out.
Mayos Noun
I'd much rather go for another defender, on similar wages who wouldn't cost anywhere near as much money in transfer fees or compensation. cmdc
I'd much rather go for another defender, on similar wages who wouldn't cost anywhere near as much money in transfer fees or compensation. That's assuming there's one available, who the manager is keen on, who would be interested in coming here, and who would improve the team. Unfortunately, there's not alot of real quality floating around the lower leagues at the minute.
cappiecat
I see that some of his 'supporters' are also posting on the newton thread, with views that would seem to contradict their stance on this subject. One player, no matter how good he is, is not bigger than this club. We have taken players on in the past with 'baggage' but this on a different level and i think the damage to the reputation of the club would exceed the benefit that this player could offer to the future success of the team. If you meant me, then you are wrong, you dont know my stance on this. You misunderstood my post, reacted to your own ignorance and then called me thick. I couldn't be arsed putting you right at the time because you could read my posts 1000 times and still not see the reasoning behind them, being called thick by you has given me untold mirth ever since. If only the blokes who knew what he did in 1964 had grown up to be Ton supporters. Members would choke on their serial.

He is talking about the Mags Hainey led pack of vigilantes who hounded sex offenders out their scheme. Attacks like these led to a PAEDiatric doctor being attacked in England, so if we lost a few fans of that ilk we shouldn't be that bothered. Hope that helps. and after reading your post 1000 times, putting away my own ignorance, apologising for calling you thick (sorry) I am still getting the underlying message that you disagree with fellow ton fans not wanting a convicted sex offender on the playing staff, but you think what newton has done is well out of order. Mayos Noun
I can't imagine the players being too happy about it either. I certainly wouldn't be happy working alongside a known sex offender, neither would I socialise with said person. I wouldn't quit my job over this and I wouldn't start a fuss incase I lost my job as I need the money but I certainly wouldn't be happy in the slightest. I can completely understand some fans reluctance to go back whilst he is at the club. I don't particularly agree and will not miss games through him playing but I can certainly see their point of view. It may be in hindsight soon anyway as Clyde may prevent the move going through due to their compensation demands. We are Legion. We do not forgive. We do not forget. Expect us. Clyde, however, not only kept him on but gave him a new contract after he was convicted, and Allan Moore has been happy enough with his contribution to the squad over a month or so to offer him a permanent deal, so it would seem those who actually know the guy and the situation aren't overly fussed. Hopefully the decision on whether to sign Lithgow can be decided on a rational basis and on footballing and personal terms by the people who are employed to know about such things, rather than a few folks rabid outrage. The Bewilderedbeast
I hear for a couple of sources (one of whom should know) that if signed, the Tele are proposing to do a front page story on Lithgow. Now, while I do not condone what he did, it was 18 months ago and as far as I am aware he is serving his sentence without any further problems. If the Tele do print such a report (front page or otherwise) I think that would be out of order, would they do the same story if the guy had been employed stacking shelves at Tesco or Morrisons. May have been a bit different had it happened a week or so ago, but 18 months ago is old news ffs. If Morton pulled out of the deal, having agreed to sign him, on the strength of the Tele's report, does that leave the player an out to sue either the Club or the paper or both? I'm torn between signing/not signing him but does it mean he doesn't work for the rest of his life, there are more than him out there being allowed to get on with their lives. I'd probably come down on the side of signing him with a clause to the effect if he goes back to his old ways the contract is torn up with on compensation payable. Part of my objection to Lithgow signing is this sort of scenario and influencing potential people from attending, then you will have the abuse targeting Lithgow at every game. Frankly i find the abuse hurled by our own supporters towards our own players bad enough at times. Say you had new investors or advertisers invited to the game or schools and they have to sit through shouts of sex offender every couple of minutes. I have noticed 2 articles in the Tele recently one a similar incident that Lithgow was found guilty of and the other about how many RSO's we have in the area. As I suspected, you are wrong again, I was only explaining the Mags Hainey thing mentioned by another poster and that I wouldn't want vigilantes roaming Cappielow, I was not infering that those who don't want him signed are like that. To be honest it's still an issue I can't make my mind up about. The decision is someone elses, so we'll have to wait and see, then, either way, we can all get on with posturing and talking pish.
