You have got to be impressed with how Shiels has set about the squad! We are getting close the the point where the players that are left of Moore's squad are mostly the ones we might have kept ourselves plus at least one where Shiels has worked his magic and dramatically improved his play. I think Shiels may well extract better than we have seen from a few others as well - the likes of McKee and Russell - but equally we now know that if they don't cut the mustard they will be out also.

He was/is indeed too wee for a goallie which is a handicap he can never overcome. The encouraging thing though from that video is that Thistle were not as great as the scoreline suggests. A competent goalkeeper would have kept out the first one. A normal height keeper would have probably not flapped at the second. The fourth was a fluke that could happen to any keeper........couldn't it?? In fact Hamilton had a lot more chances against Thistle than we gave them. I don't think 4-0 reflected the play shown in that video.

He also had an eye for a pass to slip a colleague in on goal. When he was with us he was not the finished article but there was something there and I was sorry but not brokenhearted when he left.

Its interesting that Young turned down a contract with us because of the travelling! I heard McAlister was on trial with Carlisle but I don't know if anything came of it.
