Watching Universidad César Vallejo against Universitario in the Peruvian league. Scrappy game, still 0-0 with six minutes to go, La U on top but not creating too much. But it's striking that UCV, despite playing at home, have a small ultras section but are otherwise completely outnumbered by Universitario fans. La U are one of Peru's big three, along with fellow capital clubs Alianza Lima and Sporting Cristal. But even in Trujillo, a coastal city nine hour's drive from Lima, they're a much bigger deal than the hosts.

Even the most popular club in the city, Carlos A. Mannucci*, would be outnumbered by fans of La U or Alianza (maybe not Cristal) in much the same way that Rangers and Celtic do.

Just goes to show that it's not just the likes of Scotland and Portugal with this issue, it happens all over. Happens in Mexico, too, come to think of it. My Mexican team is Cruz Azul - they're currently groundsharing at the Azteca and when I asked questions about them on the stadium tour the guy laughed and said nobody cared, and this is probably the fifth-most popular team in the country. The gap is just that big between Club América, Chivas, and everyone else.

*I once found a near-mint condition jersey of theirs from the early 2010s for $5 at a thrift store, but I neglected to properly wrap it and store it like I do my other kits, so my wife has appropriated it as a pajama top.

There’s hope for Dundee yet.

Absolutely no hope for Hamburg this year though.  Again.

What a wee shame.

Wasn't sure where to put this but because Broomhill have packed it in, Greenock Juniors get promoted in 4th place from the third bottom tier of the WoSFL, reaching the dizzy heights of the Second Division.

The Port, dirty wee, takes their place, having already secured promotion from the 10th and bottom tier of senior football.

Odd Decision from Broomhill just to jack it in, i'm sure someone out there would have taken them over or rebranded them, again.

Glad to see the Juniors promoted. I attended a few Greenock and Port games last season and quite enjoyable. Chris Millar still playing at the Port and Jamie Stevenson was on trial but clearly didn't impress.

What’s odd about it? They were a club with no roots, no stadium, no support and no backers who had just been relegated out of a league that’s extremely difficult to get relegated from.

If there was any candidate in the entire pyramid to chuck it, it would have been Broomhill.

Plus if you want in at the 4th division level there's cheaper ways of doing it. Thorn, who are going great guns, are a fine example of that. And unlike Broomhill they seem to have a plan to be a local club for local people.

Think more shocked in that someone didn't come in to acquire the league place more than anything. Long been these articles about some group wanting to takeover Albion Rovers and rebrand them Shamrock Rovers Coatbridge, or something similar, that's their pathway there. Similarly there has been other parties who speak of wanting to do this and that with smaller clubs and areas who don't have a club, the opportunity to buy a league 5 club and rebrand/relocate is a major foot in the door.

They’re a sixth tier club now though, not a fifth tier one.

Admittedly, there’s likely to be a lot of promotion places available next year as the Lowland League looks to be expanding to two regional leagues, but the West of Scotland Premier Division should be ultra competitive next season, and I wouldn’t have fancied them to claim one of those places.

On the point of someone else taking their place, who? The only club who met the West’s criteria to join in the Fourth Division (tenth tier) was East Kilbride YM, who were elected. St. Patrick’s from Dumbarton were rumoured to be interested but were apparently nowhere near prepared to apply.

Anyone else, if they wanted to relocate would likely have to commit to paying the remainder of the rent for Dumbarton’s ground which I think had three years to run.

There’s also probably a good reason that that stupid idea to rebrand Albion Rovers didn’t come to fruition. It’s hardly going to stop the hoards of buses leaving Coatbridge on a Saturday, and St. Roch’s have got the diddy-Celtic market sewn up.

Best looking at their demise as the end of an episode that will prove a sad footnote in the history of Scottish football and moving on.

I recently visited The Workers Stadium in Beijing to watch Beijing Guoan in a 2-0 win against Zhejiang. The stadium is lovely; it has a 68,000 capacity and was around three quarters full when I visited. The standard was better than I was expecting, although there was a real lack of composure and creativity in general, which meant neither team could keep possession for any meaningful period.
