cmdc
I see the government e-petitions site looks like getting the 100,000 votes needed on a petition to stop benefits payable to anyone caught rioting. 100,000 forces an MPs committee to consider the proposal. Not at all convinced that stopping benefits helps the problem at all but can see where the sentiment comes from. Lazy stereotypes about the poor and bad guesswork about the identities of those involved? The picture that is emereging of the rioters (based on the initial court appearances of those arrested) unsurprisingly paints a picture far removed from the 'army of benefit recipients' that people seem to think are rising up against the state. Tom_McB
really though tom, the current version of capitalism just doesn't work. it's sociology 101. as a man of science you shouldn't be looking at the crap excuses for this unrest, you should be looking for reasons. i know you're a daily mail type of guy who offsets his prejudices by claiming to like jazz but if you think a bit harder you're better than that. i actually and honestly think you ain't a tory at all but a frustrated lefty like the rest of us. i would put money on that being the case . properly clever people aint right wingers Never, ever read the Mail. <_> Reasons? Yesterday's court appearances seem to show that it's hardly the disinherited of the Earth who are rising up. "Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their consciences."The goal of Socialism is Communism- Lenin Je ne suis pas Marxiste : K Marx
Alibi
Nonsense. pre Eck the party were well left of centre, with Eck it's Tartan Tory time. Bless him, if I must have an essenpee government I like one under a leader lik,e eck who thinks that "Scotland didn't mind the economic side to Margaret Thatcher." Except that Eck didn't actually say that. He said that we didn't like either the financial or social policies of Thatcher but that of the 2 aspects it was the social policies that we disliked the more. When what he said was misquoted by someone from Labour on Good Morning Scotland, he actually phoned in to the programme to correct the story. "Any nation given the opportunity to regain its national sovereignty and which then rejects it is so far beneath contempt that it is hard to put words to it." Thats why politicians are a different species. They separate her policies from her single mindedness as the leader they want to be but it is that trait that was her achilles heal in the end which to me says behind the facade of all these would be party leaders beats the heart of a petty dictator , Mr Blair, Mr Brown, Mr Cameron the list will go on. If you are talking about whacko american evangalisers then fair enough, but apart from that I highly doubt any sacred texts from any faith encourage greediness. chrissiboi
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-14485592 I think if they are going to treat someone who bought some clothes nicked from JJB sports we'll have to turn whole towns into prisons. So much from the law being impartial , trying to make an example.
Alibi
Nope, he said in in an interview in Total Politics magazine. The attempt to spin out of it was hilarious though. I heard what he said and it wasn't what you said he said. I think what he said he said is more likely to be correct than what you said he said or what TP said he said. I'd say Mrs T was detested for everything she did and several things she didn't do...
