HamCam
As much as I thought Fred was under-rated at Morton it is laughable to label him a 'legend'. Almost as amusing as watching the fluffers continue to use lots of random words to decry his footballing ability.
Popular Post vikingTON
Almost as amusing as watching the fluffers continue to use lots of random words to decry his footballing ability. Evidence to support this claim please, as it would appear that you're talking shit once again. 4 1 The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before.. So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are
Popular Post vikingTON
Seriously though, how many players leave the club and go on and play European football? Can't think of many. Ryan McGuffie, James Grady and Stewart Kean had already played 'European football' before joining Morton. None of those players are 'legends' and two of the four are confirmed, poisonous snakes. It's almost as if 'playing European football' is not in itself an achievement. For you to take Wake's name in vain to cheerlead for a ringer like Bachirou is breathtaking. 4 1 The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. Toby
Now, now Angela - take a deep breath and settle. I understand it is tough for you to accept that Fred has been a success since leaving Morton. And so it should, for all of us. We all know how football works since Bosman, but Bachirou's behaviour towards the club, and the fans who lauded him, by extension, was despicable. There are ways for under contract players to negotiate transfers, but the route that little sh*te went down, by going on strike at a club who he made his name at, and then took him back when nobody wanted him was out of order, and on the eve of a new season, too. Spouting that "Morton family" pish on Facebook after he got his own way summed him up. Good player or not, this club and it's fans, who treated Bachirou better than probably any player I've ever seen come here in my time watching Morton, didn't deserve him to refuse to play or train when all they'd asked him to do was fulfill the terms of the contract that he willingly signed. He's a rat, f*ck him.

vikingTON
Now, now Angela - take a deep breath and settle. I understand it is tough for you to accept that Fred has been a success since leaving Morton. I asked you to provide evidence for your claim that: fluffers continue to use lots of random words to decry his footballing ability. As you've clearly struggled with that fairly basic task, I've highlighted the point in question. You whined about the use of 'random words' by his detractors, when all I can see are coherent, logical and largely fact-based arguments. Nobody cares whether you agree with them or not - but unless you can provide evidence for that claim, it's clear that you're embarking on some sort of Salty-esque syntax, concern trolling. Which I suspect isn't working out quite as well as you had planned. 2 1 The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. As I was not party to what happened between the club and Fouad, I am not in a position to comment on how he 'engineered' his exit. What I can comment on is that I believe he was a talented footballer who had the potential to play at a higher level. Some fans hatred of Fouad though makes them blind to his ability and unwilling to move on. I expect very little from the players these days especially the breed that play for Morton and spend their spare time on social media proclaiming their love of the old firm. 2

Mr Toon
[quote name="HamCam I expect very little from the players these days especially the breed that play for Morton and spend their spare time on social media proclaiming their love of the old firm. I don't care what team anyone who plays for Morton supports. It would be surprising to find many footballers who don't have a team they support. It's nothing new. Alan Mcgraw no more hid the fact that he was a Rangers fan than did Derek McIndes and Jim Duffy doesn't and didn't try to pretend other than that his preferred team is Celtic. All that matters is that when they pull on a Morton jersey or take a wage at Cappielow they give 100% to Morton and no one could ever question that with the three aforementioned or many others we could each identify. Bosman has changed the pattern where players were owned by and stayed with the same club for long periods of time and now they can change to go where the money is whatever team they began supporting and will continue to support when their playing days are over. Social media allows us to know many things we didn't in the past, whether we want to or not but ultimately whether we know/knew or not the facts remain the same. TRVMP
Most players achieve nothing when they play for Morton some people call Brian Wake a legend, what did he achieve apart from scoring a couple of goals to stop us getting relegated? Seriously though, how many players leave the club and go on and play European football? Can't think of many. Jon Newby and Robbie Crawford. Are they legends too? edit: not Jon Newby, some other no-mark who went on to play in Wales and ended up in a European qualifier. TRVMP
In 'modern' football there is little loyalty between club and player Even pre-Bosman this was the case, only the reverse (club to player) was even worse, and clubs would just hold onto players' registration out of spite for a variety of reasons. That's what the phrase "on the football scrapheap" originally meant. Bosman was ultimately an excellent thing for football but that doesn't change the fact that contracts that are active should be respected.

I agree in part but my experience, possibly rose-tinted, is that the teams I remember watching in the 70's and 80's had more local lads and players who stayed with the club for longer periods. I completely agree with the sentiment that contracts should be respected but sadly I am not sure the modern player feels the same way - Jamie Walker being a current player in Scotland taking the huff or Virgil van Dijk down south. Loyalty to cash than a badge appears to be the prime mover.

Loyalty to cash than a badge appears to be the prime mover. Clubs definitely now recruit from further afield, but a lot of that is to do with more people moving around in general (not just in football), better scouting (and video etc), more freedom of movement cross-border and the like. I did read in Tor! that in Germany until relatively late in the day it was considered a huge betrayal to leave your hometown team, and they were also very late to go professional, so maybe there is a correlation here. You're right about the modern player, it's player power now in most cases, which is a double-edged sword.* It means they're harder to exploit but it also makes it more difficult for employers. *all fucking swords are double-edged, I hate this expression and I don't know why I use it. Popular Post vikingTON
Craig Reid starred in Motherwell's humiliating defeat to Stjarnan. Just like Foaud Bachirou, he was also a poisonous snake.
