The IRA or new potatoes from Morrissons?

thats really not funny. i think you'll find it may be for club funds just like most clubs do. or as said may be for little sisiters as there is a collection for them every saturday night. Your comment re the famine is no different from the famine song. Would you make holocaust jokes?

Do you believe that there have never been collections in aid of the IRA at Celtic Supporters' Clubs or on Celtic Supporters' buses?

The reason I ask is that I was recently the guest of a Celtic Director who has been working very hard to move the club forward, and he commented that that was one aspect which had definitely 'improved' in the last few years.

That is probably more correct chris, alot of businesses inc supporters clubs with their own buildings will always find it hard to keep afloat with the rent prices in this area.

No I wouldn't make holocaust jokes , however I laugh at the sensitive wee souls of Cellic supporters , while they all fondly sing songs about killing boys from Scotland who joined the army or murdering civilians . Or the 'supporters' who mocked Reyna with simulating planes.

Aye let them take the moral high ground the scum .

f*** the OF no sympathy for either of them .

Aye chrissiboi, let's not make holocaust jokes or any jokes about human suffering, I agree. Agreed also about both sides of the OF, feck the pair of them for their exploitation of sectarianism, they'll have no relevance in a free, democratic Scotland that includes all Scots, regardless of their race, gender, religion, social status, culture or sexual orientation. But let's keep the moral high ground as you say, and avoid using terms like scum.

I'd be very surprised if there hadn't been, and just as equally surprised if there hadn't been collections for the UDA/UDF at Rangers clubs or on Rangers supporters buses.

Feck the pair of them.

Greenock is probably seen as a Celtic town because of the high number of people of Irish ancestry living here. I remember reading a statistic in a book about Scottish history that said before the Irish potato famine Greenock's Catholic population was 1%. This jumped to 33% in about 10 years after Irish immigrant families arrived. I think there was also large scale Irish immigration in the 1920s mostly to America but a lot of those going to America came to Greenock first and many stayed here instead of going on to the USA.

I think when someone says it's a Celtic town they don't mean every single person though, just that in general you are more likely to se a Celtic trackie than a Rangers one while walking about the town, which I think is true of Greenock.

In a perfect world they would all wear Morton gear but alas...I don't see the bigot brothers being moved down the pecking order any time soon.

I think that's more of a recent thing - ie the last 10 years or so. As a young boy, during Rangers 9 in a row run, I hardly ever remember seeing any Celtic tops or trackies. In fact, I remember seeing someone wearing a Celtic top with the Peoples sponsor on it up Pennyfern about 1993 and the sight was so rare that I was shocked when I saw it and still remember it to this day.

Good post sir. Which of the bigot bro's is ascendant get all the "hingers on" buying shirts and wearing them. Just now it's the boys from the Estadio de Patatas.

Common knowledge Mr Edwards, and the scum on both sides tarnish our opinions.

There are plenty of decent OF supporters who condemn that sort of thing.

Irons came into the Chairmans Lounge after the game v Queen of the South. Doc walked in as everyone was listening to DI as he stood with his family and Doc came back from having a fag and someone asked why one of the Celtic Directors was in the lounge, ye had to be there, funny as hell, that day he was the spitting image of Dr Reid

I feel for him. I was introduced to that scumbag at Cellic Park-you know-all the niceties and hand shaking crap, and my guest said 'John-this is Ernie-he was a G.P.-a real doctor'. It was only meant as a piss take but the good doctor was none too amused!

That's what I thought. I think it's a disgrace, there's meant to be a ceasefire and de-commisioning of weapons and this is going on, it's a sad reflection on society.

Put a letter of complaint in then. If you really beleive that the Celtic Supporters Club has collections for IRA then words fail me. They have a Rangers man on the committee!!!!!!

Not a hundred percent sure but I think the box at the door is for the childrens fund is it not? I also know they use to do lots of collections to send pilgrims to Lourdes.

I love the chip some of you guys have on your shoulder about the old firm attracting fans from all over the country, surely this is no different from Man Utd, Barcelona, Real Madrid etc, etc. Successful clubs will always attract fans from other areas. Scotland is no different.

My gripe isn't really with the numbers, although it still irks me a bit, but with the attitude that you MUST support or favour one of the OF. I think thats one of the starting points for the intese dislike of either side. Its just frustrating to hear and their opinion wont change no matter what you say. Bigotry and a large element of sheer idiocy in their support (at least the ones who make themself most visable, i.e. Greenock town centre neds) is another reason mind you  .
