Congratulations Donald Trump

I'm sure that Donald J. Trump himself doesn't mind.

I think that a lot of woke agendists will pretty soon be looking for rocks to crawl under.

Also, watch many embittered 'Democrats' reel out their 'Trump=stupid' unfunny gags like they did before and done for George W Bush before him.

He'll also give plenty of weapons to Israel to sort out whatever needs sorting over there too.

Overall.....

I actively avoided the vast majority of the blanket campaign and election coverage because I just find American politics in general pretty depressing. But from what little I did see, the 'Kamala is stupid' narrative was pushed pretty strongly be the Trump camp as well. They were as bad as each other from what little I saw.

Personally, I really didn't care who won, it's a foreign country and none of my business really. If you had put a gun to my head I would probably have preferred Harris to win, but I'm not at all fussed that she didn't. I do think, however, with the protectionist trade polices that will likely follow it could be very bad for world trade in general but the UK in particular, who post-Brexit are now finding themselves pretty isolated. The 'quickest and easiest trade deal in history' with the US that the Brexiteers were banking on now seems to be further away than ever. I would also be very worried if I was Ukrainian right now. I'm sure Putin's thinking he's won a watch.

By the way, a lot of 'woke agendists' will in fact be absolutely delighted with the result. Just one example, the far right Christian fundamentalists who took massive offence from the Paris Olympic opening ceremony for something that wasn't.

I'll be honest, I never really followed the US Elections all that much, and I do find American politics pretty much infantile when compared to the UK.  However, if indeed there was a 'Kamala is Stupid' narrative being pedalled, I suppose it was the Democrats being given a masterclass in insults and a taste of their own medicine.  They've been doing that kind of stuff for years.

As for 'Protectionist Trade Policies', 'Putin's won a watch' etc.  One thing about Trump, he's on his own side.  He's a shrewd operator, and he'll have seen angles that no-one else will have seen.  He's a shark with the sharpest teeth from the New York business scene, and you'd have to be to come out on top in that environment - and he'll have Putin eating out of his hands rather than the other way around.  He'll make America great again, and a lot of the outsourcing to the paddy fields of Manchuria will stop to protect jobs in their homeland which will be no bad thing.  Other countries will follow suit.

As for the Paris Olympics opening ceremony - that was an abomination.  I trust you mean about all those Transexuals pancing about supposedly depicting 'The Last Supper'.   It goes to show what a warped set of minds gets jobs on these 'committees' that come up with such things, and what a bunch of Merde-brained individuals are running France nowadays.  I bet they wouldn't have depicted the Prophet Mohammed as a fat burd in a sequined outfit playing records, or a bearded lady wiggling about on a floating barge.  They'd have been too shit scared to do so.

I definitely don't share your optimism that he'll have Putin eating out of his hand. He's a lot of things, but I don't think gullible idiot is one of them.

I think it's fair to say that America wasn't the shitstorm many feared when he was last President, and I could be wrong, but I don't think he radically changed America for the better either. Maybe it'll be different this time around, time will tell I suppose.

I didn't watch the Olympics opening ceremony so can't comment on the content, But I'm sure you still got my point that 'woke idealism' cuts both ways.

Further to the above.....

Irrespective as to whether you like him or not, his victory is probably going to be very bad news for the UK economy

Why would it be particularly bad news for the UK? The UK really isn't dependent on the export of goods - it mostly exports services instead. Many of the goods that the UK can export to the US - whisky being a prime example - are luxury goods whose buyers will likely end up/already are richer after Tuesday's election and capable of absorbing higher import duties.

By contrast, the European economic model is more vulnerable to export tariffs and is already in the process of letting one of its main export bases (car production) collapse under cheap competition. It's also more vulnerable to the political shocks caused by that downturn - starting with a German election within the next 12 months which will make the UK look a model of democratic stability.

I don't support Trump or Brexit but the orthodoxy you're parroting about free trade being an unquestionable good is self-serving, liberal bollocks. And I'd be careful about crowing from the middle of the EU given the vulnerability of that entire structure.

The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before..

So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are

Hahaha, where exactly was I 'crowing'??? You're an extremely strange person.

I'm not an ideological advocate of free-trade, but whether we like it or not, we do now have a global economy. If more restrictive tariffs are introduced by the US, they will of course be reciprocated. That will likely cause widespread disruption in global supply chains and increase inflation. In the long term though it could actually be a good thing, not least for the planet if more goods are produced locally rather than being shipped half-way around the world. But that could take many years.

Whether the UK will be more impacted than EU will of course be dependent on how selective the tariffs that Trump imposes will be. If he imposes the same tariffs on the UK as on the EU, then simply by the economy of scale, it will impact the UK more. There are however some analysts who think that he may impose higher tariffs in the EU to try to help make Brexit succeed and thereby encourage other countries to leave, because he believes a strong EU is a threat to American interests. But then again, that would mean helping Starmer and the Labour government, which would go against his natural instincts. Like everything else, only time will tell.

Erm no it wouldn't, because tariffs will apply to goods rather than services, and the type of goods that the UK exports to the US are fundamentally different to the say, the German, French or Italian car industries facing an effective shutout of a major market at the same time as cheap Chinese EV competition undercuts them at home.

Which is also why the Euro has been the currency to tank against the dollar in the past week rather than sterling.
