Megrahi........ A Curious Case...............................

im undecided myself

but DE, its shame on salmond on co were they to sell out to the yanks

now its shame when they do the exact opposite?

I suspect that the protests of some American politicians are bluff and bluster, all staged to placate the American public. The USA has much to be embarrassed about, as there's more than a hint of CIA involvement in the Lockerbie affair and the Americans were certainly involved in the oil deals with Gaddafi.

Naw, I reckon the Yanks may be quietly content that Megrahi has now dropped his appeal, effectively admitting his guilt. The appeal threatened to reveal some very uncomfortable truths and if it emerges that McCaskill pressured Megrahi to drop it then it will be to his and the Scottish government's shame. There will be more shame if they resist calls for a public enquiry.

The honourable course would've been to keep Megrahi incarcerated and let the appeal proceed. If Megrahi died before the appeal concluded then a public enquiry would follow. Release on compassionate grounds doesn't wash, not for a convicted mass murderer.

I say again, Megrahi was found guilty of mass murder by a Scottish court. He withdrew his appeal, in effect admitting his guilt. Why release him?

Have you any idea how many convictions by 'A Scottish Court' are overturned every year Mr Edwards?

Not like you to sink to Procrustean depths to further your agenda! They withdrew his appeal because the guy will be pan breid LONG before it it would ever have been heard.

.....oh and those who know it would have been successful still believe he was involved in some way. Every profession's morality becomes prostituted when political scumbags are involved. Megrahi may well be guilty but his conviction was rushed through on the flimsiest of circumstantial evidence.

Innocent until PROVEN guilty Mr Edwards, and an appeal would have shown he was NOT proven guilty.

First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then they pretend to befriend you, then you win!

As soon as the yanks said they didn't want him released I automatically wanted him too...The yanks are usually on the side of evil, why should that change now?

Utter bollocks. That's why the left in the UK is dead; captured perfectly in the statement above. That's why 'socialists' end up supporting fascists. For shame indeed.

MARTY OUT!!!!!

You're in good company, Kenny and Eck seem to do what the yanks tell them.

<_>

Bought by brit gold. BP get libyan contracts, britain gets energy security for gas supplies. Shameful really.

So if MacAskill keeps him in prison he's be doing what the Yanks tell him, and if he releases him he's being bought by British gold to secure BP contracts.

Which one is it to be then, or will you wait until the official decision before choosing?

The credibility of your argument against MacAskill and the SNP would be enhanced somewhat if it was at least coherent and consistant.

The truth is that he has an extremely difficult and sensitive decision to make that very few would envy, nomatter what he has decided he'll cause upset and anger to some. But of course you know all that already.

Yep, been reading a few blogs this morning on the matter and the majority state the same.

As for the BP contracts, hopefully i will be going down that route out there.

I can see that some people WANT to make it a party political issue (as opposed to political) but surely it's a moral question of whether to show some compassion to a dying man. Party politics have nothing, or should have nothing, to do with that. I maintain that Tavish Scott's outburst was ludicrous in the circumstances.

Of course the USA and UK governments want to keep the lid on this. They have a lot to lose from an enquiry. It would be nice if Megrahi knew the truth and was prepared to blab, but I suspect that he probably knows very little about it. The USA needed a scapegoat and he is that scapegoat.

firstly... none of you know the extent of his 'cancer' and wether or not he has in fact weeks to live, I suspect if this guy gets home he'll miraculusly live for years to come

second.. compasion for a dying man ??!! a mass ****ing murderer.. no way.. let him either rot and die in a scottish jail, or give him a wee jab and end all the s***e, and at the same time save US tax payers a good few bob.

third... where was the compassion shown for Myra Hindlay.. and she had 'served' her sentance.. just shows that the people are nothing more than toys for the political and elits who play games between themselves...

There are some questions that are too important, some truths too powerful, some messages too liberating, that they can never be heard for fear they might actually provide you with the freedom you desire and that 'they' then lose the dependence you have on them and for which they are rewarded. They lose the hold they have over you which keeps you spellbound and feeds their ego, their hunger for power and their raison d'etre.

He will die a guilty man. Theoretically he can be recalled to Scotland.

As for release on compassionate grounds, well even the victims families are divided on that. For McAskill it's damned if you do damned if you don't.

Myra Hindlay has nothing to do with the Scottish Judicial system................

Don't blame me I voted Yes!!!! - We tried to tell you !!!!!

That's exactly the point I made in my previous post, though perhaps a little more tactfully. ;)

Nomatter what decision is made Tom will criticise it, which only serves to make himself look daft and reduce the credibility of any legitimate gripes he may have in the future.

And it's not just Tom McB. There are other posters who have a hatred for Salmond and the SNP and will criticise them no matter what.

And, its their opinion. I dont hate Salmond or the SNP, i voted for them in the past. But i just get the impression that the whole Scottish parliament is a joke at times.
