Guest David Edwards
Media circus round the corner anyway, so something must be happening soon. I feel sorry for the guy, banged up for something he didn't do. Would've loved his appeal with the 'new evidence' to have gone ahead. Hopefully that evidence can be released to the public at some stage. Save your sympathy for the Lockerbie victims. Megrahi was a murderous agent for a murderous tyrant, even if by some chance he wasn't directly involved in the Lockerbie bombing.

Colkitto
Col, surely you must suspect that there is chicanery afoot. Why release a convicted mass murderer who has withdrawn his right to appeal? Compassionate grounds? Sorry, but that doesn't make sense. Could it also be a case that the Scottish government have made a big decision not influenced by the near bullying tactics from the USA ? I don't understand what you mean by "bang goes Eck's new tomorrow of honesty, integrity and justice" Maybe is was a decsion based on honesty, integrity and justice... Don't blame me I voted Yes!!!! - We tried to tell you !!!!!
Colkitto
Nope, they are having it both ways, they have done a deal with the devil . Done a deal with who ? You really have to be more specific. What do the SNP get out of this "deal" ? Don't blame me I voted Yes!!!! - We tried to tell you !!!!!
Tom_McB
Done a deal with who ? You really have to be more specific. What do the SNP get out of this "deal" ? Bought by brit gold. BP get libyan contracts, britain gets energy security for gas supplies. Shameful really. "Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. michigan_ton
As soon as the yanks said they didn't want him released I automatically wanted him too...The yanks are usually on the side of evil, why should that change now? I say again, Megrahi was found guilty of mass murder by a Scottish court. He withdrew his appeal, in effect admitting his guilt. Why release him? Scotsguy40
Maybe is was a decsion based on honesty, integrity and justice... Get real, the guy was convicted under the Criminal Justice system of our country. What now? we let every other convicted criminal out on grounds of honesty, integrity and justice... See it for what it is....... Buying jobs. This eclipses everything that Thatcher and Brown has served upon Scotland in recent history.

And you have to explain..."buying jobs" for who ? You said "maybe" Honesty, integrity and justice do not come into it. The guy was convicted of multiple murder, he should rot in jail as per his sentence which when he was found guilty by probably the best criminal justice system in the world. With Libya set to take over a sixth of the UK's petrol production and with Libya forking out £155m for Portman House they are chucking money into the UK's ailing economy. Grangemouth can expand to the tune of 650 jobs should the Libyans get their hands on Shell's UK assets. You give us our man back, we'll invest in your ailing economy. Broon and co have bought Eck! So all of a sudden Broon and Salmond are busom buddies. That really is a conspiracey too far and ridiculous for me to comprehend ! 650 jobs (you just made that figure up didn't you ? ) won't make a blind bit of difference to Scotlands funding through the Barnett Formula. Still no SNP gain. Don't blame me I voted Yes!!!! - We tried to tell you !!!!!

If you don't believe that then I have to ask "What are the SNP gaining out of this" ? No one knows, yet. He could have been released on compassionate grounds without withdrawing his appeal. Christine Grahame remains adamant that the Scottish government pressured Megrahi into that course. That hints of a cover up - admittedly there's no firm evidence yet - but it hints nevertheless. Now that the appeal will not proceed, an independent enquiry, full, free and fair, is a must. If refused, the Scottish government's position will be very shaky indeed. They couldn't even try the Glasgow Airport Bombers and sent them to a two bob court down south on London's say so. Eck and co are just towing the UK's line. Smell the coffee, the SNP have sold the people of Scotland out!
