AyrshireTon
We gave Ross County a guard of honour before the 1-1 game, it was a few days after they beat the Tims in the Scottish cup semi final. Was that the one where we missed a last minute chance to win, meaning they went the season unbeaten away from home? McGhee needs some support, there's no-one backing him up. Hayes playing it forward, Bell being forced to do it all alone, now forward from Marr, here's Ritchie, still Andy Ritchie, look at the control... That is a marvellous goal from Andy Ritchie. Twenty minutes on the clock and Morton's supporters come alive. A goal which epitomises the control, the arrogance, the cheek of Andy Ritchie. AyrshireTon
Not sure, I think that ned Monti scored an early penalty. Might be the game in 2012 I'm thinking of - Archie Campbell missed the last chance (and he didn't play in the guard of honour game). McGhee needs some support, there's no-one backing him up. Hayes playing it forward, Bell being forced to do it all alone, now forward from Marr, here's Ritchie, still Andy Ritchie, look at the control... That is a marvellous goal from Andy Ritchie. AyrshireTon
Herald journalist William Hunter was a season ticket holder at Love Street. His match reports on Morton were often less than flattering. I had wondered what his gripe was - quite a few have read as "the game was shite except for the bits where it wasn't". McGhee needs some support, there's no-one backing him up. Hayes playing it forward, Bell being forced to do it all alone, now forward from Marr, here's Ritchie, still Andy Ritchie, look at the control... That is a marvellous goal from Andy Ritchie. Quite fitting that they left early andmissed our late equaliser.  2000 - Morton 1-2 Ayr United (Whalen pen)  1995 - Clyde 1-3 Morton (McArthur, McInnes, Laing) The push for promotion continues. McInnes scored direct from a corner.  1989 - Dunfermline 1-0 Morton This game, like many others, was quickly forgotten as news came through from Hillsborough.  1981 - Kilmarnock 0-0 Morton   1972 - Morton 2-2 Airdrieonians (Mason, Armstrong)   1967 - Montrose 2-0 Morton  1963 - Morton 4-1 Queen's Park (McLaughlin 2, Wilson, McGraw)  1961 - Montrose 3-2 Morton (Brown, Craig) McGhee needs some support, there's no-one backing him up. AyrshireTon
April 16th -  2005 - Morton 2-0 Alloa Athletic (Walker, Millar)  http://youtu.be/j0dZiioHZUM  1994 - Morton 0-1 Ayr United A late long ball was gotten to first by an Ayr forward and lobbed over the advancing Wylie. This defeat meant relegation to the new second division as one of the five teams going down for reconstruction purposes, although the debacle at Hamilton a few days earlier was the real nail IMO. Before the referee had peeped his third at full time, loud fanfare music blared from the tannoy, probably at the chairman's insistance to drown out the backlash.   1991 - Morton 4-0 Raith Rovers (McInnes, McCabe, Deeney, Fowler)  1988 - Morton 0-2 Aberdeen We follow up our long-awaited win over Rangers with this....  1983 - Morton 0-1 Hibernian Bobby Thomson relegated us.   1977 - Queen of the South 0-4 Morton (Ritchie 3, Goldthorp)  1966 - Morton 0-5 Rangers  1962 - Morton 1-3 Queen's Park (Robertson)  1960 - Morton 3-4 Montrose (Murney pen, Campbell, Stewart)  1958 - Montrose 1-2 Morton (McAllister, Shaw)  1955 - Stenhousemuir 3-1 Morton (Orr)  1949 - Morton 2-2 Dundee (Mochan, Alexander) This game (our last seven home games in fact) was played at Love Street.   1932 - Ayr United 6-2 Morton South Western Counties Cup. A new one on me - played by ourselves, St. Mirren and Kilmarnock in the early 30s. St. Mirren beat Ayr 7-1 in the final.  1921 - Morton 1-1 Third Lanark (Martin)  McGhee needs some support, there's no-one backing him up. AyrshireTon
April 17th -  2010 - Morton 2-2 Dundee (Monti pen, Witteveen)  2004 - Morton 2-1 Alloa Athletic (Cannie, Walker) As mentioned in the QoS match thread, Paul Walker's late winner gave us hope that we could still get promotion and turn things around after the disaster at Hamilton.  2001 - Ross County 0-2 Morton (Matheson 2)  http://youtu.be/VIa4O-BQhj8  1999 - Morton 0-2 Airdrieonians  http://youtu.be/kgAwF-zYjI0  1993 - Morton 1-1 Raith Rovers (Alexander) Morton gave Champions Raith Rovers a guard of honour and took a point off them in our quest for mid-table mediocrity. Chairman John Wilson later hilariously claimed to have been told by the visiting chairman that "he wished his club were in the position that we were".  1982 - Morton 2-1 Aberdeen (Rooney, McNeil)  1976 - Queen's Park 2-3 Morton (McGhee 2, Brown pen) Through to the quarter finals 4-3 on aggregate and drawn with St. Mirren in the semis.  1971 - Morton 1-0 Dundee  1968 - Morton 3-3 Rangers (Taylor, Mason, Allan)   1967 - Brechin City 0-4 Morton (Bartram, Thorup 2, Arentoft)  1965 - Kilmarnock 3-0 Morton  1961 - Morton 1-4 Queen's Park We had three trialists and our keeper kept the score down....  1954 - Queen's Park 4-2 Morton (Gibson, Linwood) McGhee needs some support, there's no-one backing him up.
