TRVMP
I disagree with it too, as I already said. I do think it is present in the majority of cases, though. The vast majority.
Cet Homme Charmant
Gullibility is the very definition of credulity isn't it? And I disagree that it is a prerequisite for religious faith. My interpretation of credulous is more 'unquestioning' than 'gullible'. Indeed my dictionary defines 'credulous' as 'willing to believe or trust too readily, esp. without proper or adequate evidence.' Isn't that also an accurate description of the faithful? mortonjag
I've just realised that this is a serious thread-people are actually getting worked up about an imponderable. If you want a debate where ultimate proof is possible, I put it to you that Shoogly has a black wart under his foreskin. First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then they pretend to befriend you, then you win! YER BARD
Guest David Edwards
I do think it is present in the majority of cases, though. The vast majority. And I disagree with that contention, as I've already said. BTW, I wasn't being careless with the word 'seriously'. Deliberately mischievous I was, same as yourself. I'm sure I'm not the only rationalist /atheist that can find inspiration in the Bible, like in any great work of literature. I've been inspired by driving Pontiacs, Buicks and Lincolns on american highways, but not yet by car manuals.

chris_mceleny
IMO no religion should be taught in any school, primary or secondary school. If any parent feels strong enough about religion, it should be down to them to teach their kids all about it and also attend their place of worship, if they so feel. Only religious education in schools should be a class teaching everyone all the different types, so they have an understanding of the world. And the biggest change needed is to end seperate schools due to religion, madness if you ask me, total madness. Just look at Scottish history to understand the issues it causes. Well in terms of catholic schools in times gone by as catholics were not allowed to go to school with protestants (non denominationals) the church set up and funded its own schools then subsequently when they proved to be so successful the government decided to state fund them again. mortonjag
another good thread ruined No it's NOT another thread ruined-though I'm hardly surprised that you haven't the wit to read between the lines. Stick to criticising folk down at your paltry IQ level sonny boy. God cannot be disproved or proved. END OF! Now I suggest that Shoogly's sub-preputial naevus is in fact green and white. Have you an opinion, or are you only capable of cheap jibes? <_> First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then they pretend to befriend you, then you win! Tom_McB
I have four cans of Becks in my mini fridge. AND I have a non-alcoholic beer with lunch. I'm going to be f***in' ROWDY on this thread. Libations untouched, Damn near reached Major on CoD4 online though. "Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their consciences."The goal of Socialism is Communism- Lenin Je ne suis pas Marxiste : K Marx
Tom_McB
I might become a "freelance" Orthodox Jew just to see what happens. Jesus was circumcised, I assumed you'd be cool with it. Different times, different ways. There was considerable debate in the early church as to willie chopping. Christianity damn near ended up as a sect of Judaism "Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. I don't really know what faith is because I don't possess it. But generally I understand it to consist of believing in God's existence without seeing or knowing of God's existence. I think 'the faithful' as you call them are seldom unquestioning. The ones that I know aren't anyway, nor would I describe any of them as gullible. Cet Homme Charmant
I said, so the story goes. I don't even know if Jesus existed. I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination, but isn't there a general consensus among most historians that Jesus existed? It's what he said and did and how that was subsequently recorded and interpreted that's open to discussion.
