I'd like to warn you all about a "Charity" collector who done the rounds in Wemyss Bay yesterday evening and who may visit other parts of Inverclyde / North Ayrshire shortly. A Man in his mid 50s, possibly working with a similarly aged woman and others are going door to door purporting to collect and distribute money to charity for children with Cancer and Leukaemia. Due to such charities and illness being particularly close to my family, my other half parted with cash - as did many of our neighbours we were to find out later, who knowing my family and the particular charities involved parted with money without question. However upon reading the literature handed over by the guy, my other half done a bit of investigation as all did not add up and we had never heard of the organisation. If you Google "Bruno Schultz" "rosebuds" "sunday mail" you'll see the results for yourself. The desciption of the collector matched that in Sunday Mail expose articles dating from 2007 and recently February 2008 whereby this guy, through a Limited Company - NOT a registered Charity, does the rounds, collects cash then hands over peanuts compared to what was collected. Do you remember the "Moonbeams" sweeties that used to be seen in pubs and wee shops ? That was him. Apparently took in over £300K and less than £50k went to charity. Lines his own pockets at the expense of deserving charities and people's good nature. So this is his new scam. Apparently legal but morally despicable. Syphoning off money donated in the genuine belief that it is destined to go to help children with Cancer and Leukaemia. Please please please .......... Warn everyone you know, not to entertain this piece of scum. They might be going round other parts of Inverclyde / North Ayrshire. Don't give them a penny. If you wish to donate money to charity, please do so direct to one of the many registered and well known organisations such as Yorkhill Childrens Foundation, The Anthony Nolan Trust, CLIC Sargent, McMillan or the Shiehallion Ward Play Fund at Yorkhill. EBu Posted October 10, 2008 Share Posted October 10, 2008 The thing is that its not just the one charity that he's ripping off, I'd now think twice about giving money away to a charity at the door just in case, which is really crappy but i'd rather be safe than sorry.
