A loot of hypocrites: Is there a great deal of difference between MPs and looters?

Meanwhile, listening to the defence some of the looters have put up in court – “The stuff was there to be grabbed and everyone else was doing it, but I’m willing to pay for everything I took” – reminds me of another disgraced group.

Maybe it's time to re-visit the MPs expenses business and charge a lot more of them rather than let them off if they pay the money back. Cameron, off to jail for 4 years...

"Any nation given the opportunity to regain its national sovereignty and which then rejects it is so far beneath contempt that it is hard to put words to it."

Thats the lesson don't riot and destroy your own area, go at the seat of power, confront those who are to blame not more of the victims of the countries hypocrisy.

I really don't like the propoganda war that this Government seems to be waging upon people claiming benefits. I'm aware that there are shysters who "manipulate" (to be kind) the system and yes, they should be brought to task, but then so should the politicians who exploited their own benefits - the only difference is a clear cut case of one set of rules for the rich which lets them wangle of their hooks, another for the poor who are collectively stigmatised regardless of their honesty, which on it's own is quite a sinister precident. People who actually deserve or need benefits to get by are seeing their income cut as a result of this attitude, and the notion that claiming benefits equals being a work-shy chancer seems to be catching on a wee bit too much to be healthy; I'd guess that the majority of people being supported by benefits would rather be earning their money. That's why this crazy, egotistical and unfounded proposal of cutting benefits to stop riots is dangerous - without regard to who was involved in the trouble, or attempting to understand what may be at the root of the unrest, Cameron and his cronies have jumped at the opportunity as another excuse to attack the poorer elements in society. With threats of kicking families out of their homes flying around amongst others, will the millionaire brats involved be fined proportionatly? Will they ****, they'll get a slap on the wrist and be shuffled out of the limelight just so a bunch of reprehensible rich wankers can keep trying to demonise the common folk whilst protecting their own.

If in a few months time, a huge mob starts petrol-bombing Westminster and Downing Street, who wouldn't fancy joining them???

High ranking Conservative MPs and party members have been doing this for as long as I can remember, all the while they bend over backwards to protect the riches of them and their tax dodging mates in the city and the corporate world.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their consciences."

At one time I could say thats Tory values for you , sadly that now seems to be New Labour, Lib Dem and Conservative ethos at the present.

Slightly right of centre nationalist! I am all for the market economy as the best way of creating jobs and wealth but properly regulated markets.

A lot of the present problems can be traced back to Thatcherism and the de-regulation of numerous sectors, especially banking. Also there are certain industries which are so key to our national well being that they should never be out of public control. The railways are a good example where the price of rail travel is strangling worker mobility and is a complete rip off compared to the service provided by state railways in most of Europe.

you still don't sound very right of centre to me!
