Tonosaurus
The one thing that this thread has highlighted for me anyway if it had not already been known is that some people on here see no evil - hear no evil where Morton is concerned, yes most are all passionate with their support and will back the players when they are on the park, that's great but it seems to me that that certain people, the same ones nearly always may I had are in denial that anything is or could be wrong at Cappielow. But all some people do is moan constantly at the club and it is hard to appreciate their side of the story when all they leave is cryptic crappy statements which basically translate as "if you knew what I knew." To leave their post at that is undoubtedly going to annoy people, especially when it concerns the team they support with a passion. If someone called your mother a terrorist, with no real substance, you might want to debate that (or stick your napper on their chest!). I have no doubts that I do not know all the facts concerning the running of Cappielow, however after directly reading the accounts from the AGM, I find (like Tonsilitis) some of this stuff rather hard to accept/believe. I don't care what the running of the Golden Casket is like (as some people seem to think is), but the running of Greenock Morton FC is important. So long as we are still in business and show no signs of falling drastically backwards, I am happy. Also, there is no way we could have got the squad we have assembled without the Rae's input. Yes we have a big fanbase, but do you honestly believe we would get even half the amount through the gate were it not for us spending the money on good(ish) players? We wouldn't have had Williams (who provided goals, albeit only for a while), Weatherson (one of the best all round players in the SFL), Templeman (ok I know he hasn't been great, but at the time we got him he was banging in goals, so nobody can argue there) and a whole host of other players that Mr Rae has funded the purchase of. We would have had a support that could sustain the quality of Raith Rovers and probably gone to part-time status, thus making us an average team, just like in 2000-2002. Mr Rae supports Morton. I don't care if his company have a corporate box elsewhere, he is at every Morton game of every season and kicking every ball with the rest of us. Sure it would be better if he reeled in his enthusiasm when it comes to team-talks (IF that is true) etc, but unless you have a spare £5million kicking about to buy Morton, I suggest you focus your energies to supporting the football and not bore every one else with the negativity! Rhubarb Mess
I am not worried about the immediate future of Morton, emphasis on immediate, but if Golden Casket ever goes pop we all know we will be in trouble. My original post was more of the nature of having a go at to whom it concerned regarding what I see as complete ignorance of what the supporters themselves want. Ok, the strip, although annoying as feck to me, will not alter my support of the team (even if the song 'we're naw the Killie' is somewhat ironic) and neither will the Firhill game as I have no intention of going. The website is a bone of contention to many Morton fans. The reference to Ibrox I stand by. The upshot of all this is if you take people for granted as sure as hell they will eventually walk away, and that would be half of our crowd, we will end up back to the days of 1200 to 1500 'hardcore' fans. Some of the answers at the last 'toon hall doo' were to say the least vague, a politician would have been proud of them. As for the escalation of rumours, counter rumours, arse licking, arse kicking, I found it all extremely entertaining, as I was bored as feck with this site for weeks. We are a MEAN diddy team!!! jpmil
I haven't bothered to read all these postings but having read some I'm amazed at the load of excrement posted. The simple fact is that Clubs change their strips (all too often) for no other purpose than to generate money. If you don't like the new one (simple) don't buy it. Don't complain that the club didn't take notice of "your" feelings regarding the matter. They haven't taken any notice of your feelings about the team so why should they pay the slightest heed about a strip. Having said that I'm less than excited about the coming season which I feel will be a make or break not only for Mcinally but for the "full-time" ethos at Cappielow. TAFKAC
I merely pointed out that I can read accounts and know about insolvency in order to give some credence to what I was saying. I would not normally mention this but it seemed appropriate in the context of this thread, where others appear to state facts which simply cannot be true. The point is, people keep going on about how we are all being taken in by what is going on at Cappielow and misquoting financial facts. Can any one of the guys who are trying to convince that there is some sinister master plan or conspiracy going on at Cappielow please enlighten the rest of us. What exactly is it that you think is going on? So far I have'nt seen one fact which stands scrutiny other than the relatively minor issues such as the website, vertical stripes as opposed to hoops and lack of new signings. These are surely not evidence of some underlying conspiracy? With regard to the tax relief thing, put simply, Morton's losses can be set against Golden Casket's profits. Of the reduced profit, the government pays 30% and Golden Casket have to bear the rest. They would be better off financially without Morton. And incidentally, the left wing people are as you say the traditional home of the conspiracy theory so is it strange that I tend to think that those who spout such lines probably have leftish tendancies? You don't have to be an accountant to read a set of accounts, just to be able to set them. I can read them and analyse them but I have only basic skills in setting them out. I don't mind what the strip looks like although I am annoyed at the quality of the website, particularly when compared to the publicity department at the factory. I am mainly concerned about why the administration of our club is so poor when he has proven, when it comes to flogging sweeties to kids and helping the obesity problems of the West of Scotland , he is an astute businessman. I still have a nagging doubt that we're being used as a rich mans plaything. It may be a case of his heart ruling his head, but someone needs to stop him. The ideal solution would be to have a salaried and independent Chief Executive but I can't see Rae letting loose the reins anytime soon. K P Low
was about to post a deep and meaningful reply but can't be bother as I've just spent ages reading all the other ones so I'll just leave like this. Cost of strips - too high. Hoops or stripes - Couldn't care less but unlike others I do draw the line at purple leotards as yellow would look better. Saved at the 11th hour - Disagree, 11th hour gives the impression we still had 1 hour left when in fact it was less. Mr Rae saviour? - he was phoned at late notice and told that if the consortium didn't have £xxx, xxx in the bank by x the club would go into liquidation. He duly ensured that enough money was in the bank, no questions asked. He didn't save us on his own though and if it hadn't been for the trust and STT there would be no morton.
