mortonjag Posted January 14, 2009 Share Posted January 14, 2009 Not long ago myself, Doddie and 2 other mates went upto Aberdeen for the Lee Evans gig. Thought we'd make a right good weekend of it. Having a great time in a pub, banter flowin, few drinks, then suddenly we got hounded by another group of guys for having 'Glasgow accents'. A completely unneccessary flare-up ensued and there was no reasoning with the muppets. We weren't from Aberdeen. Simple as that. The rest of the weekend was filled with stories of complete and utter weirdigans who hail from Aberdeen! Very, very, VERY strange place...I highly doubt its Scottish nationalism on the rise. Its just a couple of tossers from Aberdeen! It did, however, make a good story for some pathetic hack with nothing better to write about, and more's the pity that there are folk who'll swallow such crap hook line and sinker. Its just a couple of tossers from Aberdeen! that ties in with stories i've heard about aberdeen. some of the twats up there make it their business to hassle anyone who isn't "aberdeen". for all the west coast of scotland gets a bad press i think you are more likely to get grief on a night out in the east. i recently read a blog on bebo by a hibs casual. it was grim as f***. he was thick as pig s*** and far from subscribing to the "casual code" of fighting with like minded punters he took pride in "taking liberties" with guys on nights out. i went to college with guys from the east coast and they said edinburgh ,aberdeen and dundee were a nightmare for violence. There's a tolerance up here of 'anti English' sentiment which would be shat upon from a great height if it were directed towards any other group. While I don't attach much importance to the' anti' stuff we regularly hear when England are involved in sporting competitions , there's no doubt in my mind that we have morons (the attackers of this girl eg) who take the anti English stuff to heart and think it's acceptable to abuse anyone with a southern accdent. While we're at it, I get a bit uncomfortable when certain posters abuse our friends from the U.S. who post on here So don't get too uppity Midtons when someone makes sweeping generalisations about the Scots and Nationalism when you're possibly prone to doing the same regarding the 306 Million American citizens. The thing is, if I was anti English I would come right out and say it just in the same way I don't hide the fact I'm anti American , the original poster knew exactly what he was doing and did it to wind up nationalists, he let himself down big time with that sub heading and should be ashamed of himself. The red tops will no doubt make a big deal about it, probably calling it racially motivated. Assault is assault, just as thuggery is thuggery. The race or nationality of the victim or perpetrator doesn't make the crime lesser or worse. Completely and 100% right. We will always have shallow-minded morons who will judge people by the place of their birth rather than their content as a person.
