It’s been a welcome surprise to see Gillespie has been able to consistently play for 90 minutes this season, given he hadn’t been a regular in previous seasons and generally looked only able to do 60-75 minutes before running out of gas.
Looking forward, Murray will likely be looking for someone of a similar ilk, but with a bit more pace and a few years younger, but keeping a good professional and role model like Gillespie in the squad for another season still has an appeal, particularly if more fringe members move on.
