That's fair enough but in that case why bring in the likes of Frankie Deane on trial? Dougie already knew his age, height and build, so the point of the trial was only to assess his ability. He fitted into the team very well and displayed great ability on the ball, providing one moment of exceptional vision into the bargain. This begs the question, why wasn't the boy signed? It's making me wonder if Dougie was overruled and told if he signed them it would limit his resources for further, more essential signings.

Most of what you say seems fair enough, although I’m not sure we’re being patient and playing a waiting game if we’re signing the likes of Broadfoot and Boyd now, which must in some way restrict who we could afford later. Not sure if saying these signings are not massive downgrades is what we need to hear. Surely to improve our promotion chances from last season it’s definite upgrades we need. It’s quite concerning that we’re using up a wage on some of these signings that can’t be used to bring in better options. Talking of which, did the midget gem play last night?

There’s surely quite a big difference between the Board first consulting with the fans on the conference league proposals, before voting on an issue that we had an influence on before it took place, and a fixture list that has already been pre-determined. WTF’s happened to VT and Toby? I would previously log on here just to read their vitriolic posts, even if they were giving me a hard time. I have to admit they were always a great read, well researched and hitting the nail on the head. However it seems that since they started hanging about together they’ve lost their way. Their main theme seems to pivot around hatred for rival clubs or putting down fellow supporters. Is it a case of opposites attract but familiarity breeds contempt? I for one am very saddened by their demise, and would welcome their old personas back with open arms.

My concern would be if we’re using our limited funds to bring in back-up players rather than upgrades on what we have, that we’re not serious enough about going for the holy grail of promotion.

Not saying that’s what I would do. Just saying if Gillespie hasn’t signed the same extension as Baird, and doesn’t play every week due to injury problems, then if Dougie goes that way then that could be his reasoning. We’ll find out soon enough and I’ll be okay with it either way.

It’s not usually but then the captain is usually someone who plays every week. Baird could also be rewarded with the captaincy for signing on long term.

Yeah I'd prefer he chooses Dundee or Killie if he's not staying with us. Dougie seems to have resurrected his career but he only signed a short term contract so it always looked more than likely he'd move on. When I've been within earshot of opposition fans they've mostly raved about him at least as much as we do.

Yeah on second thoughts Dougie will have good reasons for this, plus Andy Millen knows him well from Kilmarnock. Probably do a similar job as Efe, an International Defender tutoring our first choice CB’s etc.

I agree with most of that. Apart from injuries and suspensions though I felt we could just about predict the starting 11, give or take a couple of incoming loanees. Usually it would be: Schwake Grimshaw Baird O’Connor Waters R.Winters Gillespie Blues Quitongo Oakley/Muirhead Miller So what I’m saying is, we could have very close to the same side if Grimshaw and Waters sign up. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, in fact it’s great to have continuity and a settled squad. I’m just questioning whether we need something different in addition to make a consistent challenge. Dougie still needs to add around 4 players so that’s when we’ll find out. Sorry R.Crawford, don’t know if Winters came from a spell check!?

Very happy with this! Just wondering if we sign up Waters and Grimshaw, will we be relying on pretty much the same starting 11 (with new goalie included). Will that be enough to make more of a title challenge? Or do we need one or two who are improvements on what we have?

They’ve signed Hamilton and Mullin with more to come. It’s going to be a harder league to get out of this season than last.

Me too, as Kilday doesn’t fit the mould of game changer by any stretch!

If the four offered terms sign on then we’ll have the core of a good squad at this level. I just wonder if Dougie will add back-up squad players such as Kilday to that group or try to bring in a couple of game changers to go for the title.
