Imagine it’ll be similar to last term with Gillespie as Club Captain and Baird as Vice Captain, taking the armband whenever Gillespie isn’t on the park. Which is fine.

There’s no precedent for that, either in the division as a whole or our club particularly. We’re miles ahead of where we’d normally be at this early stage of the summer window.

After that a wide forward? Another signing in the mould of Grimshaw that can cover a couple of defensive positions would be welcome too.

When the old regime were still getting me to do concept designs for the shirts I put forward the idea of incorporating names into the hoops. The template I made up allowed for a thousand easily enough. You want the typeset small enough that they blend in to the hoops unless you’re up close. I had proposed making it a pre-order bonus for the first 1000 customers or as an optional extra to bring in a little extra revenue. I passed it on to MCT a couple of seasons ago and they said they had something similar in the pipeline. It’s been done quite effectively by a few clubs before and is a nice touch. Will look forward to seeing it.

Joma did a mild variation on their hooped template for SC Verl in Germany. Has the same collar style as out kit last season but foregoes the fading pattern to the edges of the coloured hoops. On this one there are hoop portions to the lower back under the numbers. It’s nothing special either.

There was a poll done via Twitter a while back asking whether fans would prefer traditional hoops or an ‘Argentina Hoops’ kit. Traditional won the poll.

I feel like we use words to this effect every year, but if we get the recruitment right we could be in for a really good season with even more improvement and consistency. The difference is this year it feels as though the prospect of getting it right is quite realistic.
