A player who has just popped into my mind - Andy McLaren. His background and experiences are laid bare in his autobiography which I read years ago, he should have been nowhere near Morton. He's also someone who Jim McInally fucked over too.

Here's my XI as things stand: X Weatherson Shimmin Medou-Otye X X Tidser McLaren Quitongo Thomas Williams Okay yes, I'm cheating a bit by sticking Weatherson at right back, but it's my ball so it's my rules.

I'd say it's very harsh to include Lindsay. A season in the Scottish Premiership and a couple of seasons in the English Championship isn't to be sniffed at.

I think that is the crucial point. Whilst the word salad job title is certainly something, I'd imagine he will essentially be an assistant manager and give a steer to Imrie on recruitment, much like Andy Millen did. As VT has said, it also means that we should reduce the disruption to the squad if/when Imrie leaves. I'd be very surprised if Imrie is still here at the end of the season, and an experienced manager in the backroom staff *should* serve us better than having to appoint an external caretaker or someone from the current playing staff should Imrie leave mid-season.
