  1. Not as much as I despise Man City. Let's face it, Spurs are and always will be a big city glamour club, always destined to show promise and being thereabouts without actually achieving anything, however a natural order won't have returned to English football until Man City are skint and scrambling about the relegation zone.
  2. It had good music on its jukebox the last time e I was there, albeit that was around 7years ago.
  3. I think that was part of the problem with Alex, where he was from and the company he kept. Just after he signed for us there was all sorts of stories about his golf club incident: https://www.heraldscotland.com/news/12223893.attack-footballer-put-on-probation/ When he was at Morton there was an incident at a snooker club and there was another incident in which he was caught up where a few of his mates got stabbed: https://www.heraldscotland.com/news/11988149.mother-in-tears-at-killers-sentence-teenager-given-five-years-for-stabbing-after-attack/ If there is such a thing, Alex was a victim of his environment where he would have needed to be a wide-o just to get by in life. It would have been better for the lad if he got a move to a club away from the central belt to Aberdeen or Dundee United, or even a club down South as he would have been able to give some distance to his scheme environment which eventually landed him in serious bother later on. He had a decent lower league career, and Morton will be just another Clyde or Ayr United to him, but he could have done so much more. Scottish football is littered with could-have-been stories.
  4. That sounds pretty shite, tbh. I was only in the Thistle Bar once, it was a good wee shoppe. Only flaw (from an out-of-towners point of view) was it was a wee bit out the road. If the were to recreate a pub like that downstairs from the Norseman it would be grand.
  5. The Harry Dunn's only managed a 0-0 draw against Hibernian this evening, whereas Celtic beat Motherwell 3-0 at home, so it is now Celtic top of the table. Still interesting.
  6. This season's SPL looks a bit more interesting than ever, with Rangers and Kilmarnock currently joint top, only one point ahead of both Celtic and Aberdeen; and only four points separating first and fifth placed Hearts. I think that Celtic will win it yet again, but it is more than a foregone conclusion that Scottish Football's detractors have often mentioned over the years.
  7. His career definitely isn't over, as the Harry Dunn's love their wife beaters, so he could always get a gig there.
  8. They were serving free soup up in Bumshaftens on Saturday. For all his faults, Maxwell House is a good guy.
  9. Another unhappy punter. This Shitehouse Bar isn't doing very well in the eyes of Morton supporters. Maybe they should switch their allegiance to St.Mirren or the Old Firm, or become a local LGBT bar.
  10. We don't want the likes of you and Cartoon Head turning up and spoiling the atmos. It's unspoiled and it shall remain that way, unless someone else outs it.
  11. Sometimes it best showing a bit of restraint, and when a pub is across the road from a police station that is one of those occasions. They are arseholes, theyre not worthy of the Morton badge on their walls, but not worth getting arrested for. Well done to all concerned. Overall it was a great day and a good night, and dare I say it, even that dick having a complete meltdown when he could have made his bosses a good payday only added to the occasion. After leaving that pub we went to a cracking wee pub, nice decor, lovely barstaff, perfect pints, decent prices, good tunes on the jukebox and even brought us some Pies and Sausage Rolls to accompany our drinks. It's well worth abandoning the Shitehouse to discover that place. It's just a shame that their experience of the Shitehouse will be their lasting memory of Greenock for some of those Dundee United lads, for some that will be their first and last time in the town. They were decent folk, the same can't be said of the management of that place.
  12. Here are the "directors" of The Lighthouse Bar (Greenock) Ltd: https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/SC402065/officers The messageboard owners all know what they seen. The effeminate bar manager on duty this evening was extremely disrespectful to around 50 paying customers, all of whom were good natured lads enjoying a beer and a sing-song before heading for the train. The same bar manager even told the Dundee United lads to 'Go Fuck off to another pub' amongst other things and even became abusive towards a Morton supporter who pointed out that he kicked out 50 folk for singing just ahead of a karaoke night. Preposterous. An off-duty member of bar staff even tried to pick a fight with the same person for leaving his empty pint glass turned upside down on the bar - which is a universal sign of poor service. Credit where it's due to the Dundee United supporters, many of whom looked like tough lads, for showing a great deal of restraint when being treated in such a disgraceful manner. The DU lads could easily have taken offence and turned nasty on the bar manager and the bar staff. With regards to this being a Morton pub or even a football pub, it isn't. They might have a club crest somewhere, they might have a few signed shirts on the wall, but they lack something that is the basic prerequisites for running a pub - that is respect and civility towards your clientele. This place merely want your money with no hospitable service in return. I certainly won't be giving them any of my custom anymore and I know at least a dozen Morton supporters who think the same way after this evening.
  13. Saw a fantastic documentary tonight on BBC4: Primal Scream - The Lost Memphis Tapes. It was about the fallout of the Screamadelica album where they all became Junkies and then got sent to Memphis as a kind of rehab away from the London scene which they were heavily involved at the time. The outcome was the 'Give out but don't give up' album but guitarist Andrew Innes recently discovered a cassette of outtakes which were simply amazing and perhaps their finest work. I'm listening to it on Spotify just now and I'm blown away by it.
  14. Almost forgot: Spartak Moscow 4 Glasgow Rangers 3 Scotland's Neely Men are Scotland's Nearly Men.
  15. Not only did he do that, he also managed to beat the Netherlands 1-0 at home, albeit with the second leg 6-0 capitulation in Amsterdam. If we weren't so rotten in the second leg we could have made it to Portugal. As I said previously, I don't think he was a bad coach, but perhaps the wrong coach for us at the time. It was a poorly thought out appointment. I think that after his Germany job he went on a carpetbagging tour of collecting big cheques prior to his retirement.
  16. Berti Vogts is a strange one, because he wasn't a bad coach - let's face it, he won the European Championships in 1996 and was runner up in 1992, and he also qualified for the Champions League with Bayer Leverkusen, however he represents the perfect example of a manager/coach who knew and understood his homeland but was unable to work his magic in other markets. That was possibly his biggest flaw, rebuilding Craig Brown's team when a lot had since retired and not knowing the UK leagues where most of his players had played. With the benefit of hindsight, Scotland should have appointed George Graham/Stewart Houston or Roy Hodgson when Craig Brown retired.
  17. Definitely one of the most under-rated Scottish players of the past 30 years, and a good servant to the Scottish national team throughout that time. Guys like James McArthur would do well to follow his example.
  18. Anton Rogan, Alan McKnight and Paul Byrne seemed to have hassle free time in Scotland despite being Northern Irish and Celtic players. I think two problems with Lennon which nobody ever seems to mention - he is an ugly looking ginger - he looks like the mirror image of a permascowling typical Rangers fan, but he isn't one of them, he's one of 'them' instead. That is a bit hard for them to get their heads round.
  19. The Harry Dunn's weren't playing yesterday either. That's a more likely reason for the increase in the crowd. We all know who they all really support down that way.
