  1. Peter Weatherson has scored in 8 games in a row now, 11 goals in those games.
  2. His back to goal game needs some work. I'd guess that might be the reason why he hasn't had much of an opportunity down there, assuming it's footballing reasons. There were certainly games with us that he struggled to get involved in, but at the same time always had that ability to score an important goal. I'm surprised his chances have been so limited, but maybe not shocked that his style of pay doesn't suit every team.
  3. The player of the year notion came from a mistranslation as far as I know. It was an article in Swedish about top players in the league to look out for, or quietly effective players, or something like that.
  4. He's a manager who tends to get off to a disastrous start, partly because he wants to change everything about the team. That's what made him such a terrible appointment as manager. Whether he'd get it right over the long term is another debate, but he was never going to be a succes in the short term. You've got to make the best of what you've got - the passing from back style in the middle of a relegation battle was always going to be a mistake, but I don't think shiels has any other way.
  5. If we were looking for another attack minded player I'd rather it was someone who played out wide or in attacking midfield supporting the striker. Iain Vigurs is somehow still available, don't know if he's hoping for something down south (and probably well out of our wage bracket) but someone in that mould would be good. A player to do the type of job that Imrie did for us a couple of years ago (hopefully in a more successful team). My worry is that signing another striker would just make Duffy play 4-4-2 with 2 out and out strikers all the time. I'd be surprised if we survived this league trying that. And above all else, as you say, it's the defensive side of things that we really need to sort out.
  6. If we're saying that another striker is a must, does that mean that we're writing off MacDonald? I agree that sorting the defensive side of things is the priority. I'd put whatever resources we have left into that.
  7. Anyway... Jim McAllister is training with St Johnstone.
  8. Anyway... Jim McAlister is training with St Johnstone.
  9. He's often spoke of his desire to manage full time, but as a part time club it makes more sense than any other in terms of league, budget, and location.
  10. Brian Graham seemed to get himself into much better shape after leaving Morton. I don't know what the problem was there, maybe he, Kelbie, Peter were having eating competitions after training?
  11. Interestingly enough, Wallace has been absent for some of our worst results and started in most of our better results. That's not to say he hasn't had some shockers or that he has been a pivotal player, but he does at least put in a decent shift. His main problem is in the final third, he's just not creative enough (he also has a shocking first touch). But he does offer more defensively than our other options on the right.
  12. Considering how well a player like Gary Twigg did in the Irish League, perhaps its less of a big fall and more of a small step...
  13. How many will Monti score against us this season? I'll guess 3...
  14. Shouldn't be surprised by this, he had a cracking game the last time we played them.
  15. Not really from what I've heard. Newish club who will have some decent money put into them, getting ready for a promotion push now that Darlington are out the way. Don't know the extent of which any of this is accurate though, it could be simply the best he can do. The conspiracy theorists have them as a potential place-holder in the English league system for Rangers or Celtic
  16. Starting: League: 28 games, 14 goals Cup: 8 games, 2 goals Sub: League: 27 games, 3 goals Sub: 2 games, 0 goals The problem with Wake was that he would have an amazing games every so often, he scored in 13 games for us (6 doubles), but in between those matches he often contributed very little. He would often play great if we were playing great - he scored doubles in 4-2, 5-0, 4-2 and 6-3 wins. At times he was just about the worst player i've ever seen at Morton, on other occasions he was brilliant. It's difficult to rely on a player like that. It seems that Gateshead got the awful Wake, but the good Wake went to Sweden
  17. I really wanted Brian Graham to be a top player for us, I felt like he always put everything into his performances and seemed to care more than most. In all honesty I never quite thought he had the required quality for this level - he has 18 goals so far in 2012, so eh, go him! I looked back at what I said when he left (see below), I obviously didn't know at the time that he was offered a new contract, but I don't feel that I was too harsh. He had something, but never quite did it for us.
  18. Stuart McCaffrey is back running and still hasn't ruled out a return to playing, he would also like to coach. He still keeps in touch with some of the Morton players and has been attending our matches this season.
  19. I agree, the cup tie against Buckie he just couldn't beat his man no matter how hard he tried. You could argue that he was played out of position or wasn't given enough time, but even considering that he was awful in his time with us. Obviously disappointing (for us) that he's gone onto be a good player, but that just the way things work out sometimes.
  20. I think I even said something insanely optimistic about harding not long after he joined us. That wasn't my point though, it was more that some people get it into their mind that someone is overrated, probably due to a small number of optimistic comments; but forever more that player will be overrated to them.
  21. He made the comparison a few times; very memorable and wasn't hard to find Is it not relevant anymore, or are we to arbitrarily judge who the most overrated players have been?
  22. LargsTon, Can you tell me why you think McAlister was overrated, or more to the point, how can a player be overrated if the overwhelming opinion of him seems to be that he is average at best? To say that it's a fact that he's the most overrated players you've ever seen in a Morton jersey clearly shows that you have no understanding of the word fact. There were a few who got carried away when he was younger and had some really promising performances, and he didn't turn out to be the player that many hoped he would be, but that doesn't mean that he isn't a solid player at this level. IMO he is a player who has the physical attibutes to be a very good player at this level, but lacks a good footballing brain. His movement, composure and decision making on the park often let him down. But he always did a decent job for us, hence why an SPL team picked him up. As for the most overrated player to play in a Morton jersey, I think you're praise of Jamie Stevenson has that covered Jamie Stevenson wasn't even half the player that Chris Millar was for us, nevermind Lindberg. Talent is about more than playing a few nice passes at second division level.
  23. McAlister was last on trial at a decent League One club. He's clearly still looking for something higher, and better paying, than SFL1. So why anyone would try to say he's no good on the basis that he hasn't signed for an SFL1 club makes no sense whatsoever. How about we wait to see where he ends up, and then make a judgement on where his career is headed And saying Finlayson was as good as McAlister for us is a bit like those who said that Stevenson was a better player than Millar
  24. He's certainly looking like a very talented 'keeper, and I'm hopefull that this will translate into consistent performaces at this level. I also think that Stirling looks like a much better player than McGeough, but only time will tell if it really turns out to be the case. You have to remember that Stewart won PotY awards with us; technically talented goalkeepers don't always turn out to be consistent performers. Early proclamations about players has a habit of coming back to bite people on the arse. We were all very excited at the prospect of our new full backs and forwards last season, but it didn't exactly work out as planned... Cervi has been linked with several MLS clubs as back-up, but there's nothing concrete on any of the rumours.
