  1. I think it goes against the spirit of the rule, but not the letter.
  2. Again, I advocate strongly for us to use any means necessary to sign him, up to and including a ringing endorsement of this sob story about eligibility. We could end the transfer and contract system for all I care, just get him in.
  3. Yes, it does. There is more than one solution at play here. Perhaps there is a case to be made for this. It wouldn't impact the Gunning situation but I can see the logic in it. I don't recall that but this would also make sense. It would fall under a similar category to the convenient "release."
  4. It's built in large part precisely to discourage such short-term deals, and ringers being brought in specifically for play-offs after being conveniently "released" from another club.
  5. It's not possible to "release" a player under contract. He had his contract paid up to a level mutually acceptable to him and Billericay. You could say that he didn't have much of a choice, and that he accepted his because to do otherwise would be to run the risk of getting even less if Ricay entered administration. That may be true, it it's far from guaranteed. After this he accepted a short-term, non-contract deal St Solihull, which once again he chose without a gun to his head, and did so despite the fact he could have sought out a deal to the end of the season elsewhere. This was 100%, entirely his choice. Even if (and to me it's a very big if) the Billericay situation was so unusual as to merit a second look, this one wasn't. The rule exists both to protect players and clubs and makes perfect sense, and 98% of British players will go a whole career without thinking twice about it. That Gunning is one of the guys who keeps running into it says far more about him than about the rule.
  6. Yes, you can. The rules are exceptionally clear. Ricay never went into administration - most of the talk of financial issues were blown massively out of proportion. It's not like Tamplin's eccentricity wasn't known when Gunning signed for them. He should have done his due diligence here, but didn't. Then he should have sought out a one-year deal immediately after leaving the club, but didn't. Don't get me wrong, if we can come up with sole sob story to get him available and sign him, we should. But morally it's Gunning's fault for taking the first two deals that popped up, which seems to be a recurring problem with him. It's not the rule's fault at all.
  7. Absolutely, he was superb for us, but we ought to let bygones be bygones.
  8. Harkins should under no circumstances return to the club. Nothing against him, just he's very old.
  9. I went on the official site on Sunday night (my time, so middle of the night UK time) to look for the match highlights. Silly me, they hadn't even added the score yet, much less the highlights. The highlights were on Youtube by this time but there's no joined-up thinking at all here.
  10. Brian Graham's late debut goal isn't enough as Thistle lose 2-1 at "Arbroath FC."
  11. Didn't know about that, I'll check that out as well.
  12. Nah, he's at Chennai, which I suppose would be almost their "local" rivals. Way up north, ex-Rangers defender David Robertson (and his son) are at Real Kashmir in the other, much poorer (financially and standards-wise) top flight, the I-League.
  13. Erik Paartalu on the scoresheet as Bengaluru beat Jamshedpur 2-0. They are second in the league on 22 points, two points behind Goa, although ATK in third are on 21 with a game in hand.
  14. Telfer scored once and Declan twice as Falkirk beat Jim "Jim" Duffy's Dumbarton FC 3-0 yesterday. At least Raith and Airdrie both won as well.
  15. 264 minutes of league football in the last eighteen months? Yeah, not looking good for him.
  16. Agent Charlie's red here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=122&v=WRYq2ezV8Pw Got to say it doesn't look like a red to me. Looks like cynical but not overly dangerous. Maybe it's because of the downward step motion? It didn't connect with the player (thankfully) but that's all I can think of, that it was considered a studs-first, downward challenge - a stamp, in other words, that could have hit the shin if it was timed differently.
  17. He is indeed still at Ladeside and not starting regularly.
  18. I'm good for around three of those per calendar year.
  19. It seems a bit mixed up to me, there's something about it being a members event, then a members only event, then free if you're a member (implying you can pay otherwise?) I think they're still finalizing it. I'll say for them that they've never been shy about trying to attract new members so I'd be very surprised if this was a closed event. edit: never mind, it is members-only according to the facebook. But still, I don't really blame them. They did have this kind of event as a bonus of membership, getting access to events like these and the attendees that they have. Fair play.
  20. I imagine he's under a lot of stress right now. I don't envy his position, even though it's his fault. It can't be easy for him, being thrust into the spotlight for negative reasons. (I know he's been in the papers before for his longevity with Morton and his Scotland work, but that's different from being treated as a public figure for illicit gambling.) Most people don't handle that kind of attention very well. Granted, he got the chance to give an interview sharing his problems, which is more than a lot get (even if it's not something I'd personally have talked about), but still, this will be a difficult time for him. For that reasons I think he should get a bit of leeway, but the best advice for him is just to keep his head down until everything blows over, and that means not posting on social media, even if he feels justified in doing so. Like it or not, this is now an issue of interest to Morton fans, so of course they're going to comment, and sometimes that comment will involve speculation and judgement. Again, not easy for a non-public figure to handle this, but unfortunately that's the way of the world.
  21. There is a meeting next Friday night (time not yet confirmed) at the Port Glasgow Golf Club, where the MCT board will be in attendance, along with Hopkin and MacKinnon. It's not a formal Q&A, apparently, but in fairness to MCT they have not been shy about answering questions in the past.
  22. That bald steward treating it like it's Black Hawk Down and not a bunch of wee guys pointing and shouting at a taxi driver.
  23. Snake FC equalize in the last second at Dumbarton. Declan McManus scores a penalty. Maybe the best possible outcome as it keeps Falkirk off top spot while putting slightly less pressure on King Snake.
