  1. Hoping that not all those accept offers but even for someone who wanted to keep the nucleus of the squad together that's far too many being offered considering three of the loanees leaving are three of our best players.

McLean and Oliver seem like crazy decisions to me. Oliver has been shoehorned in this season to very little effect and McLean would mean keeping two of the slow CBs that Dougie has complained about having to play a back 3 for since he came in.

    Dom Thomas is useless.

9 direct goal contributions in 25 league games this season if Google is to be believed for a team in the relegation playoffs. If we find any wingers with that return next season I'll be delighted.

  3. We are usually sniffing around the playoffs for players at this time of year. Any stand out that are out of contract? Always liked the look of Dylan Easton but don't know if he's signed up at Airdrie next season.

Would take Dom Thomas as a winger since we have none if Dunfermline went down. Is their keeper good or did he just have that one good game that got clipped in to highlights on twitter?

Can't say any QOTS players really stood out for me to even remember their names this season but they did pump us 3-0 so there's probably the odd option to pick up there too.

  4. The article in the tele doesn't actually have any quotes from Imrie that he's looking to resign almost all the majority of out of contract players, just that he's offered contracts to the players he wants to keep. Nothing really new in the article compared to his post match interview on Friday.

  5. Got a lot of sympathy for MCT. formed and taken control of the club during Covid and a cost of living crisis.

I'm sure the people who can afford it will pledge more but the worry is also that they will lose members at this time also due to people's circumstances.

Coming just a few days after Friday, where the club decided they had no interest in trying to earn an extra £12000 (which they would have got had they won the game against a weakened Arbroath team) by effectively chucking the game by fielding the kids.

That's 100 members for the next 12 months worth of income.

The last time the board told our manager who and who not to play on the final day of the season over money didn't exactly go well.

I pretty much went full circle on this them changed my mind again. Having initially thought when I first saw the story "no, having a political party host an event using the stadium is a step too far" I took a step back and came round to the view that it was essentially just the same type of commercial transaction as an advertising hoarding, which I have absolutely no issue with and clearly doesn't infer an endorsement from the club.

Then you see them posing with campaign material in the home dugout and it does leave a sour taste of the club potentially being explicitly associated with them, but I also saw the point raised that for the 2011 Westminster by-election we actually had the SNP candidate Anne McLaughlin on the pitch in a Morton top having a kickabout with Nicola Sturgeon for a photo op, and as far as I can recall no one objected then or considers Morton to be somehow inextricably linked with the SNP despite that being nothing but using Cappielow for a campaign rather than hiring a space.

That does bring it back to the view that it's the (entirely merited) negative views of the party in question which are the issue for some fans here rather than a principle around political parties in general, and therefore it's the fans who have initially created a political issue here rather than the club. None of which changes the conduct of a member of that party last night being a total embarrassment.

There is a point to be made about how a line would be drawn as obviously some political parties would not be acceptable to host in any capacity - if the BNP tried to book a space they would rightly be told to fuck off just as they would be from the likes of the town hall, so clearly the politics of the party in question are relevant to an extent - but I don't think it's for the commercial department of a football club to police how acceptable Alba are.

With regards to 2011, I'm not sure if the majority of fans would have even known about the SNP propaganda on the pitch. I certainly didn't remember it. I also think politics are a lot more divisive now than in 2011 and a lot of people in general are a lot more clued up on it and how it works. Politics used to be an election season thing and a few scandals a year, but now it's been a daily occurrence in people's lives for years due to, 2014 independence vote, brexit, covid etc.

My stance on if the SNP did today what the Alba party did last night would be the same. Fine to book the room and take a few personal photos, but not okay to use the footballing side of the club I.e pitch, dugouts, stands as propaganda to help promote your party.

  8. In my opinion it started off as fragile fans being annoyed because a political party they don't agree with had booked a cappielow function room and they were getting their knickers in a twist over nothing.

What it had turned in to is a political party being able to promote their party and agenda on the hallowed grounds of the cappielow pitch, with cappielow used as a backdrop image for no extra cost than it would cost me to book a Birthday Party.

That's then followed up by a member of said party implying out of nowhere to morton fans that they are racist because they don't like seeing cappielow used as propaganda.

All in all its not a good look for the club. I don't even see it as bad publicity because no one outside of Morton fans give a flying fuck and rightly so.

Aye, I don’t really want to be getting into it too much tbh as it’s not really fair to go bringing a by-stander, of sorts, into it and it’s understandable that it’s not pleasant for him, but at the same time I’m not really buying any poor wee victim routine either.

Anyway, with any luck the Alba characters will lose their seats next month and put an end to their constant bloviating but as far as this goes then it was what it was and there’s lessons to be learned from the club about allowing the actual stadium to be used for electioneering photo-ops.

Otherwise it’s a storm in a teacup that means fuck all about anything.

I agree it means fuck all about anything in the grand scheme of things and it's not going to make national news or even any headlines outside of Morton fan social media , but within that core group this had already left a sore taste in a decent number of people's mouths before the event and now after the event and Chris's actions online you've even got a lot of the people who spent all day defending it bitterly disappointed in the club.

That's not good for anyone. I'm sure it will blow over though as you say. I don't see it being at the forefront of people's minds for more than a day or teo , but it's also another notch on the many " ffs morton" moments that lead to disillusionment over time.

  10. Politicians by nature are judged on their personality and beliefs and hopefully enough people like them to get elected, so while I agree with the sentiment from brendan (who obviously is right to defend their family) I don't really think his point holds up here, unless it's not his brother he's talking about. I'd have no problem calling Boris Johnson a cunt to his face for instance.

What is undeniable is that him setting up a photo op in order to play the race card against criticism is an extremely cunty move.

With regards to the photos, I dont like it, but if it was just people at a function at cappielow having a wee photo around the ground then fine, but they're holding up a vote alba sign with cappielow as a back drop, which I blame no one but the club for allowing that to happen. I've spent all day defending them thinking they'd know what the line is but I was wrong, and I was indeed naive and wrong about Chris earlier with Toby.

  11. Delighted the club aren't apologising for it while pointing out the obvious.

“The Alba Party are paying the same rate as any other customer who seeks to book our lounges for a function. The club is not associated with any organisation that books the facility, other than ensuring that our terms of use are respected.“

" Morton Club Together as an entity are not involved in day-to-day club operations, including the booking of Cappielow as a function space. As mentioned in the quote, neither MCT or Greenock Morton are in any way associated with any political party, and this is a booking that has been made through the commercial department of the club."

Hate to say it, but this is a master stroke by (presumably) Chris McEleny.

Let’s be honest, the ALBA party are pretty irrelevant in the grand scheme of things, but by simply hiring Cappielow, he’s all of a sudden got folk who wouldn’t even know they’re on the ballot paper talking about them all over Twitter.

Personally I wouldn’t like to accept anything from any political party, including trackside advertising but the real shame is that the club has been used as a pawn for a bit of political capital, and I’d suggest it’s been used by one of it’s own supporters for that purpose.

I’ve seen Chris Ross’s generic reply that someone’s put on Twitter, and to be honest, rather than being outraged, it just saddens me that these things keep happening. Things were going so well for so long.

I personally think you're looking too far in to it. I'd say it's much simpler and more likely that with Chris being a Morton fan, Brendan being club secretary and the knowledge that the club have started hiring out rooms at Cappielow that they'd rather give their money to the club who's trying to grow that side of the business than say the Council or another private function hall.

If it wasn't for that Inverclyde Now article screenshot barely anyone would have known the event was even happening, which doesn't suggest to me that some genius PR stunt on the part of Chris.

  13. Actually more annoyed at the politicisation of the club by some fans on twitter and threatening to withdraw their funding over it.

Everyone is entitled to withdraw their funding for whatever reason they see fit but its them that's bringing politics in to this not the club, and if this is the sort of thing people will withdraw funding over then the club will need to walk on eggshells waiting for the next thing that riles them in to threatening to withdraw and that's healthy for no one.

I'm all for the club using its facilities to gain some extra income but when it's arseclowns like the alba party and Salmond that can get swiftly in the bin. Club seemed to be doing well with getting fans back on side and the good atmosphere since Dougie has arrived but this is another thing you just have to shake your head at.

Also in regards to VAR and the club voting against it I wonder how much Dougie was asked about this or if was just all board members making the decision.

Dougie wouldnt even be in my radar of people to consult. Has absolutely nothing to do with the manager, who let's face it probably won't even be here by the time VAR impacts us directly (if it ever does).
