Plus points:

- Pressing pretty good for the first game, which is easier without Millar being near the team anymore

- A decent showing going forward

Negatives:

- set-piece defending poor and defence ropey overall

- final ball needs more thought and quality

I expect Queen of the South to be horseshit so mebbe having the edge in that game is no different to the start of last season. I think that the problem areas are coachable to a significant degree though, whereas if we looked completely bereft of ideas then the alarm bells would be ringing.

You'd hope McLean and McGinty wouldnt be our starting cbs which would hopefully make a difference

That's us realistically out, barring getting a result against St Mirren as well as beating the two lower league sides who are likely better than us and Queen of the South.

I'm impressed with the level of effort from everyone except Muirhead and Colville (maybe a little harsh but I felt his head went down within minutes and from then on he was playing within himself.)

Unfortunately our defensive limitations are going to be punished hugely by better teams.

Muirhead a bit of a scapegoat

I don't think anyone would blame him for the defeat, but he came on and performed shockingly, then took a snide wee penalty in a shoot-out. It's possible for the result not to be his fault, but also for him to be absolutely gash and lacking in character. Both can be true.

We’ve definitely all witnessed enough to realise that Muirhead just isn’t cutting it. Unless someone leaves a magic lamp on his doorstep I can’t see that changing. As for the defence, I can only hope that Hopkin figures out what everyone else has and we don’t see much of the McGinty / McLean combination this season.

No one's saying Muirhead is responsible for the defeat. What they are saying is he's mince, having watched him give the ball away every time he touched it.

Colville has a sort of laid back style of play. Looks as if he’s not trying, but he has ability and a ferocious shot. Anyone know why Lyon didn’t get a game? Surely better than Muihead?

I'm not sure why we're trying to dance around this actually: Muirhead came on at 2-1 up and our attacking threat pretty much ended for the evening with that change. Then as a centre forward he hit a dung penalty that saw us lose a (not very important) cup tie. In terms of allocating 'blame' then we should be looking squarely at Muirhead: in the same way that Ramsbottom was responsible for us scraping a penalties win in the same game last season - when if he had just been able to catch or stop simple balls in the 90 minutes then we'd have taken all three points.

The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before..

So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are
