I have no problem with loan agreements, definitely a lesser evil.

6 loans and the other teams coaches whilst they get all the good youth players? Wouldn't care if it isn't Morton but would rather play their 18yr olds than be Greenock Rangers/Celtic

What the fuck are you going on about?

Thats what the 'strategic partnerships' proposal is. Change the rules to allow 6 loans. Then the OF want to send their coaches to the loan team to monitor and assist in their development.

That is very unlikely.

Yeah, who cares? Football, like every other aspect of the entertainment industry, is part of an irreversible trend: power and wealth is centralizing at the top. The existence of professional football clubs in places like Greenock and Stenhousemuir is a historical relic. One, of course, that most of us very much want to keep alive. But we're absolutely deluding ourselves if we think that we're going to have a meaningful say in how youth development works in this country, much less in global football as a whole. Rangers and Celtic are doing right by their own interests here, which is fair enough, and while I'd hope we vote against this particular proposal, the long-term trend is going only in one direction. We can choose to ignore that fact or we can confront it head-on, and if we do the latter we're going to realize that *one way or another* the big clubs are going to hoover up all the best youth players. What way this is done is the only thing we have the slightest bit of influence over.

The issue at stake isn't even remotely whether bigger clubs get access to the best young players though, it's about the integrity of the lower leagues as stand-alone, professional competitions in their own right. That battle can be reliably won, not least because the highly restrictive voting systems that the Old Firm insisted on to protect their interests in the top flight now prevent them from browbeating a thin majority of clubs to let them have their way.

The serious threat to lower league integrity clearly comes from within, as clubs like Stenhousemuir reach to have a sook at the OF boaby. There needs to be a measure passed barring those nefarious 'partnerships' from springing up within the SPFL, or just pray for the sporting gods to land them with six Graham Dale/Andrew Dallas figures in one season that send their horrible rabble the way of 'Berwick Rangers'.

The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before..

So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are

This will inevitably end with the withdrawal of the OF, either to some half-assed Super League or, more likely, to an SPL v2.0. Given a long enough timescale, this is what's going to happen. The trend is only going one way. The question will be whether or not we can reach some level of appeasement in the meantime, or if we even want to. Ultimately when two clubs control between them a majority of the resources, they're not going to stick around long-term if they feel they're being hamstrung.

I would quite happily accept their leaving the SPFL entirely as an ideal outcome, but I don't think the beancounters at clubs like Morton (or Stenny, for that matter) would be so enthusiastic.

Getting six players on loan from a club, and getting a coach from that club, doesn't really seem that big of a deal to me. It's not the 1800s, players don't die in the house they were born in and waddle their rickets-addled legs directly from the soot mine to the local boglands at noon on a Saturday to play for their hometown club. Clubs like Stenny will at any given time have 90% of their players have no connection at all with the Falkirk area, much less Stenhousemuir itself. Does it really matter if they have half-a-dozen hopeless cases from Rangers* and Graeme Murty?

*I think one of the things people are missing here is that, with very few exceptions, anyone halfway decent by Rangers or Celtic standards isn't going to play in League Two during their career. For every Andy Robertson there's a hundred or more OF, Hearts, Aberdeen, Hibs, whatever youths who go on loan and stink the joint out. Unless you're at the absolute pinnacle of football, like Real Madrid, seriously good players will be in and around the first team from 18 onwards. Far more likely is that the vast majority of these 'partnership' players spend a year or two at Stenny, get released from Rangers, then bounce around the lower leagues as they do today.

I am assuming Morton will not be voting for this latest shit-show proposal (if it comes to it).

McGhee needs some support, there's no-one backing him up.
Hayes playing it forward, Bell being forced to do it all alone, now forward from Marr, here's Ritchie, still Andy Ritchie, look at the control...

That is a marvellous goal from Andy Ritchie. Twenty minutes on the clock and Morton's supporters come alive. A goal which epitomises the control, the arrogance, the cheek of Andy Ritchie.

Agreed, the proposal will fail unless there's enough people who the OF can buy off.

If supporters make it clear that they aren't interested in seeing their teams play 'colts' teams or 'B' teams in league games, challenge Cup games or anything like that, and are willing to vote with their feet, then the idea becomes a non starter.

I listened to the BBC Sportsound broadcast yesterday which spent a huge amount of time praising this 'new',' innovative' and 'exciting' proposal. The lack of balance, critical thought and genuine questioning of the proposal didn't surprise me as the usual gang of hacks did what they always do, pretending to care about Scottish football while selling their souls to the OF.

The proposal is the usual mix of OF bribery and naked self interest timed perfectly to appeal to cash strapped clubs. Hopefully enough will not fall for this abortion.

Civilized countries and Spain have already stopped B teams from entering their main national cups, in large part because of the time Real Madrid played Castilla - their reserves - in the Copa del Rey final in the 80s. Castilla ended up in the CWC as a result.

The club didn’t have a clue about the anniversaries of our more recent title wins only a couple of weeks ago, how can we expect them to note something as trivial as winning the Scottish Cup?

This isn’t a landmark podcast we’re talking about, ffs.

club are aware of of 100 years since the cup win and also 150 years of the club as being forthcoming events.

Some kind of specialised printed top could take 18 months to plan and produce,

I have an intense, burning indifference.
