I see that you've managed to rattle old Urnie's cage with your comments. Good work.

Dear Members,

Earlier in 2020, Morton Club Together announced our intention to explore the potential of Community Ownership of Greenock Morton Football Club. Since then, MCT have commenced a feasibility study and are working with the club to assess the needs for the potential development of a suitable business plan. The feasibility study focusses on five key business themes that we believe need to be closely examined and incorporated as part of any business plan for Community Ownership.

The themes are:

- The legal structures required to underpin Community Ownership;

- The financial resources required to own and operate Greenock Morton;

- The operational resources and needs in running the club;

- The commercial opportunities and needs to underpin the business; and

- The infrastructure requirements to manage and develop the assets of the club.

We have now reached a stage in the process where we are looking to develop our options and look at creating a professional and coherent business plan.MCT members share a common goal of seeing Greenock Morton become a successful, healthy and thriving club that we are proud to support. As we have said before, MCT is presently run by a small and committed number of members who dedicate their time, skills and effort to help us to achieve our goals. This team have helped to drive the feasibility to the present position.

However, we are keen to bring on board any member who may have the key skills we need as we embark on this next phase of the study. In particular we are seeking members who may have skills and experience in the following areas:

- Experience and qualifications in accountancy and/or financial planning;

- A background in ICT in terms of system administration;

- A background in HR and key modern business requirements such as GDPR and good governance structures;

- A background in Health & Safety with a specific bias towards sports experience;

- A commercial product background;

- A background and successful track record in third sector grant/financial bid writing.

If you think you may have skills and experience that would be helpful to MCT and are able to spare 3 or 4 hours a week then please drop us a line giving us a brief outline of your expertise and how you think you may be able to help us to enquiries@mortonclubtogether.com

Thanks,

MCT Team

£25,000 RAISED DURING LOCKDOWN

Morton Club Together (MCT) have today announced that member and one-off contributions since the beginning of lockdown in March have reached £25,000. Reaching £25,000 in contributions during this challenging period is a testament to the dedication of Morton fans to their Club and highlights the significant impact MCT and its members are having.

This £25,000 has been made up of 430 members contributing £7,200 throughout March, April and May, as well as £3,400 in one-off donations made by supporters. During this tough time, a number of members have also offered to increase their monthly contributions to MCT. MCT had been contributing a significant monthly sum of £7,000 towards the Morton playing budget.  As membership continues to grow, the amount MCT contributes will increase. Between August 2019 and March 2020, MCT contributed £50,000 towards the first team budget.

With Greenock Morton announcing that all playing staff are on furlough, MCT’s funds are not currently being passed on to the club as the funds are designed to go towards the first team budget.  What that does mean is that the money is being banked and will allow MCT to potentially significantly increase their monthly contributions once football does resume. The organisation is currently on track to have contributed £180,000 towards the first team budget by August 2021.

Importantly, every penny raised by MCT will also contribute towards the reduction of the Club’s debt to Golden Casket.  With £500,000 being written off at the outset, MCT are well on their way to seeing a second £500,000 written off when £100,000 in contributions is reached. MCT, who are now the Club’s second largest shareholder, aims to contribute to the delivery of a viable, sustainable and successful Greenock Morton Football Club into the long-term future, both on and off the park, for and with the Morton community.

The football club have regularly cited the support of MCT as a key part of their dealings in terms of signings and contract extensions, most recently with the likes of Kyle Jacobs and Kalvin Orsi, and earlier in the season with Youth Academy graduates Reece Lyon and Lewis Strapp. In January, MCT announced that they would begin exploration into community ownership of Greenock Morton.  While Covid-19 has raised some challenges, they are continuing to pursue this.

Morton Club Together Founder and Chair Graham McLennan said, “MCT would be nothing without our members.  We thank every single member for their contributions and everyone else who has wished us well and engaged with MCT. “Covid-19 presents challenges for football clubs across Scotland, but the generosity of our members will help the Club be in the best position possible at the other side. I’m incredibly grateful to the many volunteers who have come forward since day one, who together help drive MCT forward and make it a success."

Morton Club Together Director Stewart Farmer said, “Not only did MCT contribute £50,000 towards the first team playing budget last season, but we are also on target to have contributed £180,000 by the end of the next season. To have raised £25,000 during this extremely difficult period is incredible and I would like to thank each and every person who has contributed towards this.”

Thanks,

MCT Team.

I found this part of the update surprising and would appreciate some greater clarity on where things are likely to stand between MCT and the club for the duration of the crisis. Was the funding removed because the club indicated that it had little need for it given the furlough scheme and other support measures being in place, or did MCT feel obliged to do so under the subscription terms that its members signed up to? Would MCT therefore be willing and/or able to reinstate its support and release these funds to the club, if requested, to help cover ongoing costs before first team football football resumes?

I don't think that the scheme should act as a glorified ATM for the club whenever it wants ready cash but there is an obvious benefit to both parties in having as much flexibility as possible to respond to events right now.

The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before..

So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are

Did anyone else see the MCT email today? A webinar arranged for the 8th July and it says...

“During this webinar, the Directors will be providing an important update about the future of Morton Club Together and Greenock Morton Football Club.

While we cannot say more prior to the webinar, we want to emphasise the historic importance of this update for the future of MCT and Greenock Morton and encourage you to attend if you can.”

Anyone got any idea what that’s about?

Signed up for the webinar as soon as I saw that, no idea what it is but clearly significant. Without speculating too much on what it is, probably a reasonable guess that they're announcing what their plans are beyond the initial two year period and fundraising target? Can't think what else would merit that much hype.
