TorontoTon
Here is my dad's first-hand report from a belting win against Celtic at Cappielow back on Sep 30, 1944: 4th League Trophy match at home Greenock Morton (2) 4 – 3 (2) CelticScorers: Kelly, Crum, Whyte (2) Team: Johnstone, Higgins, Fyfe, Campbell, Aird, Whyte, Kelly, Frazer, Crum, McAloon, McInnes.A long wait outside Cappielow with very long queues to get in. Morton kicked toward Port Glasgow in the first half. Weather was fine throughout the game excepting 15 mins of rain during the first half. Morton got off to a storming start when in the second minute Whyte dribbled up before crossing to KELLY who first-timed a shot home to the lower right corner. A Campbell sliding tackle then stops a dangerous run by Delaney for Celtic. Delaney next completely misses the ball in a golden before-the-goal chance. Soon after he makes up for it, running full tilt into Aird, both going down. A dubious penalty arose and Delaney equalizes for Celtic into the lower left corner. A fine McAloon shot was well-saved by Miller in the Celtic goal, and the same keeper was then luckier in stopping a McInnes shot. Delaney first-times a shot deflected into the left-side netting, and Higgins prevents a chance with a fine header away from the resulting corner. McAloon was offside when in scoring position from a McInnes cross. A wild and inaccurate shot by Divers for Celtic was followed up by Lynch scoring to the low mid-right from around the penalty spot, receiving the ball from McPhail on the left goal-line. Fyfe then cleared off the goal-line a header from Delaney that had looped over Johnstone. Whyte then dispossessed McDonald and passed to McAloon, who, after a one-two with McInnes, crossed to CRUM who scored inside the right-hand post from the centre of the penalty area. The loudest shout I heard at Cappielow was after McPhail then fouled Aird badly. A weak-ish shot from the resulting free-kick sailed past the Celtic post. A Frazer snap-shot then brought Miller to his knees. Several fouls followed, the last action of the first half being a strong Kelly shot that Miller managed to tip nicely over the bar. A bad Corbett foul on Crum marked the beginning of the second half. Johnstone made a nice save from a strong rising Lynch shot. From the clearance, Crum did some nice dribbling and set up McAloon, whose lob went just over the bar. A lull in the game saw long efforts from Campbell, Fyfe and Higgins to no avail. Delaney was then hurt in an encounter with Andy Fyfe and moved to outside-left, Jacky Gallagher moving to the centre for Celtic. Soon after a McInnes break and shot was just diverted for a corner with Kelly lurking for what would have been a typical goal-line score of his. McPhail was twice offside when in a scoring position for Celtic. A McAloon shot then curled slowly beyond the lower-left hand corner of the post. A Fyfe free-kick goes well by, but then a WHYTE long-shot sails into the goal-mouth and McAuley for Celtic can only slice it badly into his own net. Johnstone then makes a fine interception of a Lynch corner for Celtic. Lynch then fires another one past the post before McInnes sends a cross right across the Celtic goal-mouth that everyone misses. Setting up a frantic finish, Lynch scores an equalizer for Celtic, firing in low inside the right-hand post past Johnstone. Intense excitement followed, and WHYTE then grabbed the winner for Morton in the very last minute from a free-kick, sending an angled shot across the penalty area from the left and past Miller in the Celtic goal to the far right corner. Star man: Whyte.

TRVMP
Imagine any (relatively) minor Scottish club giving a team like WBA a game these days.

AyrshireTon
October 2nd - 1948 - Third Lanark 2-2 Morton (Mochan 2) League Cup group stage. Our heavily waterlogged pitch meant our next game (against St. Mirren) was being moved to Boghead. Ironic given that Dumbarton spent much of the 80s-90s having games postponed. 1943 - Hibernian 2-0 Morton 1937 - Hibernian 4-2 Morton (?, Black) 1926 - Motherwell 6-0 Morton 1920 - Dumbarton 1-4 Morton (Stevenson 2, French, Miller) 1915 - St. Mirren 1-3 Morton (Gourlay, McLean, Wright) 1909 - F*lk*rk 2-0 Morton 1897 - Linthouse 2-5 Morton (Dunlop, Hannigan, og, ?, ?) 1886 - Thornliebank 0-2 Morton Scottish Cup. 1880 - Abercorn 4-2 Morton Scottish Cup.
