BishopBrennan
Brechin were an utter disgrace in the Championship, and deserve to disappear from the leagues entirely. You address me by my proper title, you little bollocks!
vikingTON
However, Brechin are a respectable enough club [...] the great names of Scottish football like Clyde Can’t believe the mods have allowed this highly objectionable content to stay on the site this long. Sort it out please. The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before.. So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are
AyrshireTon
I would be in favour of three leagues of 16, with each team playing 30 league games each. The cheeks would not stand for only meeting twice per season and in the eyes of the SPFL it would therefore be less marketable to the TV mobs. McGhee needs some support, there's no-one backing him up. Hayes playing it forward, Bell being forced to do it all alone, now forward from Marr, here's Ritchie, still Andy Ritchie, look at the control... That is a marvellous goal from Andy Ritchie. Twenty minutes on the clock and Morton's supporters come alive. A goal which epitomises the control, the arrogance, the cheek of Andy Ritchie. Cet Homme Charmant
I would be in favour of three leagues of 16, with each team playing 30 league games each. Think a lot of teams would struggle with just 15 home games per season.

Completely agree, this carry on of playing each other 4 times a season is pish, although I agree that those to whom the SFA & SPFL pander would never agree to it. I don't think that really matters, to be honest. None of our recent teams would have been any more interesting if we had been playing Raith or East Fife or whoever else a couple of times instead of Queen of the South. Winners of the Scottish Cup three times, and three times more recently than Morton's one and only time. Love them or loathe them, they are part of the games long and illustrious history in this country. Granted that the haven't done anything of note for the past five decades (similar to Morton in that respect) they are one of Morton's long term peers in Scottish football and one that I wouldn't like to see lose their SPFL status to someone like a BSC Edusport or Kelty Hearts, who have 'franchise football' written all over them. *insert signature here*

In what way is a club that's from Rutherglen showing a bit of ankle to East Kilbride, squatting at Firhill and Hamilton before eventually setting up in a council funded sports village in the middle of nowhere because there's another new town without a club not too far away and making noises about getting to fuck out of the place cos it hasn't worked out as planned anything other than a form of franchise football? I'm looking forward to seeing shite like Cowdenbeath, Albion Rovers and Queen's Park flushed out of the SPFL, but at least they are rooted in their communities. Clyde are no better than the cubs you mention. Edited February 24, 2020 by Toby
TRVMP
In Clyde's defence, staying in Rutherglen was barely an option, and their attendances have been up since they went to Cumbernauld. Now, that said, if they plan to up sticks again then it reflects very badly on them.
dunning1874
In Clyde's defence Stopped reading here. In all seriousness I can understand criticism of Kelty’s overspending or not wanting the likes of BSC or Caledonian Braves to be getting promoted, but the idea of feeling sorry for the likes of Cowdenbeath in previous years or fucking Brechin this season because they might get relegated for being absolutely shite is a mental proposition. If you’re going to consistently assemble terrible squads then why should anyone have any sympathy when you get relegated? This is what happens to crap football teams and they’ve no one else to blame if they end up with three successive relegations. I’d rather Brora or Bonnyrigg make it up this season than Kelty, but for the pyramid to properly get going we need the SPFL sides to be relegated consistently with bottom spot becoming an automatic relegation place soon. If the clubs going down are from towns with no train service and crap pubs then all the better. TheGoon
Totally agree with the above. Brechin have nobody to blame but themselves for the position they’re in. Their BOD do seem like complete charlatans, so I do have a small level of sympathy for the fans (all 50 of them) but zero tears will be getting shed when they’re sent packing. Clyde are no better than the cubs you mention. Clyde have been a Glasgow club for over a century, as technically Shawfield Stadium was part of the City of Glasgow throughout the duration of their time there. As well as Rutherglen, Clyde also traditionally attracted support from nearby areas of Gorbals, Hutchesontown, Oatlands, Bridgeton and Dalmarnock however a number of things conspired against Clyde over the years including post-war slum clearances, the demise of industry in the area which left the place environmental damaged for decades afterwards, the 1957 Shawfield stadium disaster, the financial problems which led to them relinquishing ownership of their ground, the demise in Scottish footballs popularity since the 1950s/1960s, plus the fact that they were right on the doorstep of Scotland's two biggest clubs. Moving to Cumbernauld made sense at the time. They were a purpose-built new town housing thousands of Glaswegians who had gone there for a better way of life, good jobs, better housing away from the crumbling tenements of the East End of Glasgow. It was a social change that was reflected in society at large. They are still Clyde albeit from the Glasgow overspill, rather than from Glasgow. *insert signature here*

Morton have been a Greenock club for the entirety of their 146 years of unbroken history, yet are suffering from declining crowds. Would you be happy for Morton to move to somewhere like East Kilbride or Irvine?

DreamOakTree
I drive past Shawfield quite regularly, and it always reminds me of when my Dad took me there to see Morton play Clyde in the sixties. They finished 3rd in the top division in 1966/7 when Harry Hood played for them and they were a good team to watch.
