  1. To the tune of The Wild Rover? Someone can fine tune this, but I've heard something along the lines of - "We went to Tynecastle on Wednesday night They beat us three-nil oh they gave us a fright When they came to Greenock, we went on a spree The Morton got five and the Jam Tarts got three And it's Greenock Morton...." It refers to a 3-0 loss in a League Cup 1st leg tie which was followed three days later by a 5-3 league win. Mark McGhee and John Goldthorp got doubles, Roddie Hutchison got the other. Lots of fighting in the crowd that day. We won the 2nd leg of the LC tie 2-0. The following season we played them eight times.
  2. At least it's at home, but Hearts, should they get through, will be a really tough game.
  3. That was tremendous. Can't wipe the smile off my face today. Players were excellent, especially Power and Wilson. Stopped them from playing and the lack of flowing football on show kept their players quiet. Fans were fantastic and what a difference to see the stewards/police lets both sets get on with doing their thing, pyro and everything. Was funny to see a bottle of Buckie roll down the terrace behind me and a guy drinking a can of Stella whilst walking out of the Cowshed at the end. Pity about the knob with the laser pen. Love this team!
  4. I don't think Dundee are going to be worrying about players being cup tied this season. Or any season to be fair.
  5. Satanic cheating and heinous refereeing in two specific crunch games (guess which two clubs benefitted?) and our very heavy schedule in the first half of the season (we got to the semi finals of two cups, both of which were two-legged competitions) took their toll that season. The difference in the state the current team is in since our last game against Dunfermline is incredible.
  6. Queen of the South in 2016. Yesterday was, unsurprisingly, our biggest ever win at EEP.
  7. Meanwhile at Somerset, McGinty misses a sitter and Ayr promptly go 2-1 down.
  8. Please tell me that O'Connor is on a perfect hat-trick...
  9. We were hit really badly that season. Had one of the YTS ground staff playing against Falkirk IIRC.
  10. Signed at the same time as Gaston, shortly after they'd faced each other in a play-off, and was a very promising player. Was never the same after that tackle. Wouldn't go in for hard challenges. Murray was sent off twice at Cappielow that season - the first for the tackle and the second because the Cowshed got to him, rent free etc.
  11. I had been saying this in the pub before the game. We once dragged a few mates along to Cappielow after a good run for a New Year game and Dumbarton horsed us 3-0. Similar thing happened for our first league meeting with Gretna.
  12. Hearing that former Morton goalkeeper Denis Connaghan has passed away. He was part of the team that got us promotion to the Premier League in 1978 and the first Ton keeper that I can recall watching. He had played for Celtic in the early 70s and was at St Mirren before that. He was present at the Stars of 79 evening and was on the board at Neilston FC.
  13. Regarding the turnstiles, two fans in front of me scanned their tickets and failed to notice the green-light "please enter" message. They tried again, after the greenlight had "expired" and got a "double use" error message and had to go off in search of a steward. Regarding the game, it was frustrating not to get the win but I'll take continuing the unbeaten run.
  14. 1966 or 1963, depending on your POV. Oct 1966 - Walter Borthwick scored 3 against Clydebank (in a 6-0 win) then Jack Bolton scored 4 against Stenhousemuir (9-1). Just hat-tricks - Nov 1963 - Morris Stevenson against Forfar (6-4) then Allan McGraw against Hamilton (8-0).
  15. Kudus Oyenuga & his assistant and Burnham Ramblers F.C. "have decided to part ways".
  16. The radio had Willie Miller and Jim Duffy as co-commentators/pundits. Duffy was particularly impressed by us and Oakley's finishing. Was a very nervy listen but the booing in the background was delicious.
  17. Seems that we are the commentary game on the radio today.
  18. Don't remember him at all. Not a good career move, though.
  19. Ayr started the stronger and although we couldn't get out of our half for ten minutes, they didn't do a lot with their possession. After a series of overhit crosses from the left, we made a move down the right and scored from it. Second half was a very comfortable 45 minutes with two great goals from Robbie. Referee, as ever, was hopeless. Peak was a series of heavy tackles from their players outside our box and he somehow came up with a drop ball.
  20. Liverpool recall Owen Beck from Dundee. One of their fans on Twitter asking if it means they'll be recalling French from us.
