  1. Ah, right back - yes, I remember him now.
  2. Football fans don’t like good food? Personally if I was paying £100 or more for hospitality I’d be hoping for something better than pie and chips with another pie at half time. Maybe a different menu could be available at extra cost for those who actually appreciate good food. Having said that, the steak pies from the Cowshed stall are excellent.
  3. Maybe my age but I have absolutely no recollection of Brandon.
  4. Just as long as they are aware that most of the support don't consider Griffiths entirely suitable for a community club like ours. That's before considering that if he failed at Falkirk, he should be nowhere near Cappielow.
  5. Griffiths would be the new Gary O’Connor. A waste of money. He’s finished.
  6. I was at that game - bit of a struggle to get a ticket for the home area as they don't allow folk with a passport of the away team's country to buy tickets. Eventually got a German tourist to buy a couple of tickets for me. It never occurred to me just to ask one of the Celtic fans to get them for me, as half of them have Irish passports and so loads of them were buying tickets for the home sections. Great night, especially when Barca scored in the last minute to win the game.
  7. Only if you put dislike for Partick ahead of what's best for our title win.
  8. I’m thinking more along the lines that a draw means a point goes missing.
  9. Ayr go top. A draw would have been better but Partick seem to be imploding.
  10. Not sure what's wrong with Lyon but with his contract running until May 2024, I would assume he's just at Annan to get fitter, get game time, and get back to the player he was. He is a better player than Blues, but recently hasn't been anywhere near his best. Hope we see him back at the end of January ready to win his place back.
  11. Cauliflower rings a bell. However was there not an incident with celery quite a few years ago? Beginning to think we thought of the concept of vegetarian football clubs before Forest Green.
  12. Probably looking for folk with Capri Suns that they've frozen solid. Could easily take out Douglas Ross with one of them.
  13. This sounds like a good move. The ground is still going to be known as Cappielow Park to everyone apart from a very few pedants, and we get money from the deal. Good piece of business and well done to whoever brokered this deal. This sort of thing is what is needed to make us sustainable at a higher level of the food chain.
  14. A very eloquent retirement announcement. I liked him as a player even if he made a few mistakes on the pitch. Good luck to him in his new career.
  15. I've just had a quick google to see what inflation rates and energy costs are in EU countries compared to here. Seems to be a lot lower in almost every other country although there is a trend of moderately increased inflation in most countries. It does look that we are being absolutely hammered, and I strongly suspect Brexit is the major differentiating factor although it is being played down in the MSM of course. The hundreds of billions of £££ lost to PPE fraud and failed track and trace scams is no doubt in there somewhere. The knock on effect on smaller football clubs is going to be significant and in our case, where every pound is a prisoner, some creative and radical thinking is going to be needed. What is the profit margin on hospitality? Do Morton actually make much from it when all costs are taken into account?
  16. The old mindset, basically that Douglas Rae or whoever would put some money in to cover excess expenditure, is out of date. I don't quite understand how energy prices have risen quite as high as now seems to be the case - the oil price for Brent is under $100 a barrel at the moment, less than it was in 2014, so why didn't we have mahoosive energy bills then? Also, when there's a moderate breeze, Scotland is self sufficient in energy from renewable sources and the cost of wind hasn't gone up, so why are we being ripped off? Anyway, given that we're stuck in this situation, for which I largely blame those who voted no in 2014, Morton need to act to mitigate the effects. Changing kick off times so that games are played during daylight hours might be an option, although in midwinter the light is often pretty poor even during the daylight hours. I don't think it would be a popular strategy, but it's probably what was done prior to about 1960 when floodlighting wasn't more or less universal - I think Cappielow only got floodlights in about 1958 or thereabouts, presumably when the cowshed was built, so before that games must have been scheduled during daylight hours. It can't be said often enough - there is no magic money tree now, failing a good draw in the Scottish Cup maybe. Morton has to be run as a business, not a pet project. I'll be interested to see the bio of each candidate for election to the MCT board to find out what particular talents they bring to the table. I also think MCT need to have someone competent handling the PR side, as recent events have suggested it's not always being handled well.
  17. I think they're both injured. That was a right doing Queens go, 4-1 after taking the lead in the first minute.
  18. Easdale shouldn't be anywhere near the squad, let alone starting. The league cup I can let go as we were never going to qualify after the Falkirk game, so no real harm by letting him live the dream, but the league is a different matter. A player who barely gets a touch of the ball in 90 minutes is not playing football, they are spectating. It would be very difficult to justify having him as a first choice striker with Quitongo & Muirhead in contention, let alone about half a dozen others who would be more effective. Putting Easdale in there even at Championship level is cruelty.
  19. It's true that energy costs have rocketed, but I don't think it's as much as a 325% increase unless I've missed something. The reality is that the club needs to have income that matches expenditure. All those who moan about the cost of admission need to realise that we can't have a title winning team and a tenner to get in. Other sources of income can be maximised - there has been a noticeable improvement in the merch recently for example - but without sufficient income, it's difficult to achieve anything. The old model of developing and selling on players is pretty much gone for good. I note that two MCT directors are not seeking re-election but are remaining on the Morton board. Why? What particular talents do they have that can benefit the club? Should these individuals not also resign? For that matter, as we, the fans, own Morton, should we not be offered a chance to elect the Morton board ourselves? Or is being a board member at Cappielow a hereditary privilege or a closed shop?
  20. I don't know this Gordon Ritchie, but if he was co-opted on to the Morton board by virtue of his position in MCT, why is he not being required to stand down on resigning from his MCT post? I assume he doesn't personally hold a large number of shares in GMFC that might merit a board position and if he's no longer a custodian of the shares held by MCT, he should stand down. Maybe a GMFC board member could suggest that to him. Or maybe he does intend to stand down once he is no longer in his MCT role.
  21. I don’t think the suggestion was to go entirely part time, rather to have some part time players who were better than what we have. IIRC, our 77-82 teams were not entirely full time and they got us into the top tier. When full time players are earning a pittance, might they themselves not want to consider changing to part time as they would be better off if they had a day job? It might be different at a much higher level, but at our level I would suggest a hybrid model would serve us best.
  22. Utter nonsense. Maybe some of our fans get a bit irritated when players don't perform, but I think most fans want them to succeed. Expressing doubts about signings is reasonable comment, but if players do the biz, the fans will be right behind them. As for your list, to take just one name: Derek Gaston? FFS. Derek was at Morton for quite a few years and although he might have been criticised at times for mistakes that any keeper could have made, and sometimes for his occasionally erratic kickouts, he was widely respected as a good keeper. I don't recall him receiving anything that could be described as abuse, and even now that he is at Arbroath, I don't think I've ever hear anyone criticise of abuse him. Those that have received criticism are foten targets because they have shown a lack of respect to morton after leaving; Thomas O'Ware springs to mind. Had he just said goodbye in a more respectful manner, I'm sure people would have thnaked him for his efforts and wished him well.
  23. FFS, I know who Quitongo is. I've been watching Morton since 1963. I was meaning Gillespie and the other guy coming on loan from Livingston. Quitongo senior was a decent player - IIRC he played one game for us as a trialist and then immediately signed for St Mirren.
  24. I have never heard of these new signings. Don’t really follow what’s going on at other clubs, but from the reactions on here it looks like the expectation is mid table at best.
